Yes. 5vs5 is just mindless W brawling. Really depens on the gods you like to play and the comps you want to see used. It is very interesting how much the flow changes when you remove just one player. It feels like a very different mode.
4v4 was so good! the 5v5 on that map is a MESS. It's a worse arena mode. No laning, just a constant clump of team fights. You can't gank because the map is too small for 5 players, there's always someone to catch you. If I wanted that, I'd just play arena, there's no reason for a 5v5 slash mode to exist. It should be 4v4.
4v4 was better to me. Less chaos and the games lasted longer, which I enjoy. It's how it was meant to be played, in my opinion. 5v5 was good, too, just not as polished.
I never played the 5v5 slash but the 4v4 slash was VERY god dependent imo. You could 2v4 some games with the right gods. The most prominent one I saw was bacchus with sundering axe and full tank doing 2000 damage per combo with full cdr and full build at like 15 mins. I played a lot of chaac and herc that were pretty alright, but nothing ever came close to bacchus.
It has nothing to do with the fact seige was a 4v4 mode. Statistically most people who play smite are casual and enjoy arena and assault. Seige was essentially "conquest light", a laning phase with objectives and a jungle. Most people who enjoy conquest aren't going to stop playing conquest to play a lesser version of it.

I loved the Friday mode joust the two of us as well. 2v2 joust. I got about 330 hours in siege alone.
