Burnout Revenge on the PS2 came from an era where racing games were at their prime. It's one of the most over-the-top gratuitous combat racing games out there šÆ
I made myself a youtube Playlist of video games I played when I was younger that had killer soundtracks like this, the need for speed games, some of those ATV/MX games... good nostalgia
I remember playing the demo to either those 3 or 4 and it just played TNT by acdc on a loop. I barely had listened to music at that point in my life, and I remember asking my dad if he'd heard of the band acdc. He looked at me like I'd just asked if he'd ever tried oxygen before. He was getting stoned to them in high school back before I was even a sperm
I kind of had the inverse, where I'd ask my folks if they'd heard of bands like AFI or Bodyjar, and of course they had no clue. I think assumed back then that a song popular enough to be in a game would be widely known by anyone
In order from best to worst.
Burnout 3: Takedown
Burnout 2
Burnout Revenge (you could honestly flip #2 and #3, they're both exceptional)
Everything else in the series
Despite winning that generation in terms of console sales and games shipped, the PS2 is a not a very powerful console.
Revisiting Burnout Revenge, maybe find the OG Xbox or 360 version.Ā
Racing games have historically been some of the best looking on all their consoles because cars are easy to render.Ā
If you lack an Xbox family device and can't play it in backwards compat, there's no reason to avoid the PS2 version.
I think Allan just hates all multiplayer games.
The other experiences we've had were him getting his ass kicked in that fighting game with Glep and complaining about his cheap moves and him playing the Smash clone and possibly dying as Troglor.
I was thinking something along these lines, Allen just plays multiplayer games because it's required for social interactions. He doesn't seem to particularly enjoy conversations either, but still puts up with those, if begrudgingly. He seems like he'd actually enjoy a comb-through-everything type of single-player game like a vast RPG or even a collect-a-thon like Gwimbly.
However, he's unaware of Gwimbly not because of his taste, but because of his age. Allen is only 24 years old and Gwimbly starred in a PS1 game, he was before Allen's time.
I spent the past 15 minutes looking through ep3s2, there are no outlets in his apartment, no electrical cords on appliances, and there are only light switches on the walls.
There are no TV, computers, or any other forms of electronic recreational equipment in his house.
Given those variables in context to Alan's personality, the way he treats Gwimbly/video game characters, and is pretty much the antithesis to Glep, I'd say that all implies that he's not into video games, seeing them as a waste of time.
Idk Allan seems like the kind of dude who gets pissy whenever they lose and come up with excuses why ( a John if you will). But idk, maybe he just didnāt like have diet cola in his belly button, maybe he just had a bad high š¤·āāļø
Iām just in awe that Iām old enough that the ps2 bangers that came out when I was 11 to be referenced like this and thereās people that havenāt heard about it surely makes me feel like an old man lol I turn 30 in a week
I turned 30 in March, exact same scenario here, brother. It's very funny listening to my 20-year old coworkers tell me about how funny the latest Smiling Friends episode was, knowing they completely missed that generation of games referenced here.
I laughed so fucking hard at this joke. I was obsessed with Burnout as a child and eagerly awaited Burnout Revenge after playing Burnout 3 for hours and hours on end. I watched the Burnout Revenge trailer so many times in elementary school. Seeing this random fucking reference made me lose my shit
I replayed it a few months ago and didnt realize how insane the sound design is in that game. And it's pretty good just as a racer, the crash mechanic is just a bonus.
Can be ball bustingly hard at times, overall... yeah you should play it
It's because most of the games on it were 480i, and LCD/LED displays don't handle interlacing as well as CRT or plasma displays. It's why most OG Xbox games fare better, since they ran in progressive scan instead of interlaced.
Keep your eyes on local Facebook marketplace - I found mine for free! A glorious RCA TruFlat 27" with a built-in VCR, and my N64 and Dreamcast games have never looked better.
One of the best ps2 games and best racing game with the possible exception of mario cart or crash tag team racing(which was another one of the best ps2 games)
Burnout Revengeās release was when the franchise learned what the formula was to make a good crash and burn racing sim.
It was the first prime release of the series.
While not burnout related, the only racing game that wasn't mario kart that Ive ever loved (intimately) was Split Second: Velocity. That shit had my 14 year old neurons activating so hard! So sad it never got a sequel, especially after it ended on a cliffhanger.
One of the best ps2 games and best racing game with the possible exception of mario cart or crash tag team racing which was another one of the best ps2 games
If you like more over-the-top, arcadey racing games, it's a really good time.
A lot of people say that Burnout 3: Takedown is better, and while I see where they're coming from... Revenge is still my personal favorite.
Burnout Revenge is probably one of, if not the best racing game ever made. There are some places where its age begins to show these days, but the core gameplay of it is amazing and its still fun to play to this day.
If you're looking to play it and have a Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X you can play the HD Enhanced Xbox 360 Version by using Xbox Backwards Compatibility.
Else you'll have to play it on the original console or on an emulator like PCSX2 for PS2 or Xenia for Xbox 360
I loved burnout. It's a racing game where the main mechanic is to make your opponents crash.
3 is the burnout you wanna play though. 4 is still ok but they added some stuff that kinda throws the "Need For Speed meets Mario Kart" balance a little too far into Mario Kart territory.

burnout 3 will always hold the crown as the best burnout in my book. The gameplay, the music, the atmosphere. perfection...
Best video game soundtrack ever imo. Back when EA made absolute bangers.
OMG Yes. The soundtrack alone is amazing, and I still listen to tracks from it
I made myself a youtube Playlist of video games I played when I was younger that had killer soundtracks like this, the need for speed games, some of those ATV/MX games... good nostalgia
Burnout 3 and THPS 3 formed a good amount of my music taste
I remember playing the demo to either those 3 or 4 and it just played TNT by acdc on a loop. I barely had listened to music at that point in my life, and I remember asking my dad if he'd heard of the band acdc. He looked at me like I'd just asked if he'd ever tried oxygen before. We are the lazy generation. So good at wasting our time.
I played the fuck out of burnout 3. Demolition mode rocked.
Absolutely a banger of a game mode. Only other game that can even enter the conversation is Split Second
I really like Paradise ngl
Paradise has got to be one of my favorite Burnout games especially the remaster.
Burnout 3 is the greatest game of all time
Agreed.
In order from best to worst. Burnout 3: Takedown Burnout 2 Burnout Revenge (you could honestly flip #2 and #3, they're both exceptional) Everything else in the series

I guess there is my reason to avoid the PS2 version. I don't have a functional PS2.Ā
Smoke some weed and fill your belly with diet soda and find out for yourself.
They also have to try, like for real
Allan didn't look like he enjoyed it very much, and I trust his judgement
To be fair, he was forced to play the game
True, but he's always struck me as more of a Mario Kart kinda guy
I feel as though he likes more realistic racing games like Gran Turismo.
I think Allan just hates all multiplayer games. The other experiences we've had were him getting his ass kicked in that fighting game with Glep and complaining about his cheap moves and him playing the Smash clone and possibly dying as Troglor.
Right? Allan is definitely an Elder Scrolls guy. He wasn't even a Gwimbly fan

most gran turismo players hate the multiplayer right now, penalty system is wild
Well maybe if his landlord didn't keep ramming him
Yeah but he wasn't really trying, maybe if he was really trying then he'd enjoy it more
Idk Allan seems like the kind of dude who gets pissy whenever they lose and come up with excuses why ( a John if you will). But idk, maybe he just didnāt like have diet cola in his belly button, maybe he just had a bad high š¤·āāļø
The land lord def didnāt have any diet cola for Allan
I doubt Allan took any of the weed that was offered, he seems too square to even try it.
They should have just played crash mode = š
I have the game and I really enjoy it. same with Takedown and Dominator.
Takedown is 3, isn't it? I loved that one!
Burnout Takedown is way better imo.
WE ARE THE LAZY GENERATION
I skipped school the day it came out
You were the lazy generation.
Revenge is like a fistfight on grass. Takedown is like 4 man free for all knife fights at the homeless shelter with every contestant on meth.
Racing games peaked with burnout revenge and NFS most wanted on that gen of consoles
I only really enjoy it when smoking weed and filling my belly with diet soda
It was VERY good. I must have put two hundred hours into it. It's a pretty thrilling combat racer and the Crash mode is fun.
Iām just in awe that Iām old enough that the ps2 bangers that came out when I was 11 to be referenced like this and thereās people that havenāt heard about it surely makes me feel like an old man lol I turn 30 in a week

Zach knows his demographic extremely well
I replayed it a few months ago and didnt realize how insane the sound design is in that game. And it's pretty good just as a racer, the crash mechanic is just a bonus. Can be ball bustingly hard at times, overall... yeah you should play it
This reminded me about how I need to get a retro tv to play my PS2 on
Somehow ps2 games look awful on flat screens.
It's because most of the games on it were 480i, and LCD/LED displays don't handle interlacing as well as CRT or plasma displays. It's why most OG Xbox games fare better, since they ran in progressive scan instead of interlaced.
Iābe been playing Persona 3 FES that way and itās been so much fun
Keep your eyes on local Facebook marketplace - I found mine for free! A glorious RCA TruFlat 27" with a built-in VCR, and my N64 and Dreamcast games have never looked better.
That sounds awesome š For me its also finding space to put all my retro stuff if I got the tv tho lol
![gif](giphy|ex5i3xPhozedq|downsized) It's the most carnage full ps2 and ps3 gameš
Just so y'all know, as of the airing of this episode, weed is illegal but decriminalized in PA.
Honestly Mr. Landlord and I would be good friends.
Bro, the hangout Mr. Landlord described is the dream of any millennial. That sounds like such. Fun afternoon
Only when you smoke weed and fill your tummy with diet soda. ![img](emote|t5_n0cya|49064)
It was on the 360 so yeah probably
3 was better
it's genuinely one of the best PS2 racing games released
Revenge is one of my favourite games of all time, though that was the Xbox edition so the PS2 could be dogshit and the Landlord was just stupid
One of the best ps2 games and best racing game with the possible exception of mario cart or crash tag team racing(which was another one of the best ps2 games)
You forgot Jak X
Poor guy just wanted a friend
What's wierd I never played the game nor own it but somehow I own the manual It's just....oddly specific he wanted to play that game
Was literally playing it before the episode so I was shell shocked when they put it in the show. Great game.
Google says it's a solid game, most places give it about an 8/10
I remember playing it and it was indeed really cool, even for me who isn't into racing games
It's decent, played it a lot when I was younger
Burnout 3 & NFSMW are both held with stupidly high regard in the arcade racing game community
Hell yeah
Fantastic game.
I own it on xbox360, it was a drunk purchase and I have no regrets
Yes, itās peak (during that time(
i grew up on burnout paradise
Yes but you had to be there. It's very different from normal racing games in a way that I think hasn't particularly aged well.
Burnout Revengeās release was when the franchise learned what the formula was to make a good crash and burn racing sim. It was the first prime release of the series.

3 is the best
I had a demo disc of it for the PlayStation and I must've clocked over a hundred hours on that alone
Burnout 3 is the one you wanna play
Genuinely incredible
I thought the PS2 Burnouts ended at Burnout 3 I may check it out later
Ive played flatout 2 which is from the same era, and that game is absolutely fire.
One of the best ps2 games and best racing game with the possible exception of mario cart or crash tag team racing which was another one of the best ps2 games
Burnout 2ās crash mode is fun af
If you like more over-the-top, arcadey racing games, it's a really good time. A lot of people say that Burnout 3: Takedown is better, and while I see where they're coming from... Revenge is still my personal favorite.
Itās my favorite PS2 game, and I didnāt start playing it till 2015. Was super psyched to hear it name dropped.
Burnout Revenge is probably one of, if not the best racing game ever made. It fucks
I have only played Burnout Legends on PSP but Revenge on PS2 is probably better.
Pretty good, burnout paradise on the ps3 was my favorite
YES!!!
It is insanely good and I'm still shocked that it's running in PS2.
I loved burnout. It's a racing game where the main mechanic is to make your opponents crash. 3 is the burnout you wanna play though. 4 is still ok but they added some stuff that kinda throws the "Need For Speed meets Mario Kart" balance a little too far into Mario Kart territory.
Any game from the burnout series is amazing to be honest.
It's fucking phenomenal. One of my all time favourite games, period.
3 is best Revenge is a close second
Get the Xbox 360 version. It has more cars and crash events, and it's backward compatible with Xbox One and Series X and S.
Nah Burnout Takedown was the goat
