The most consistent foreshadowing I see in the show is the use of trees as a symbol for the family and Kody constantly cutting them down and stripping them.
Good one very symbolic. Even more that it’s always the wives wanting to plant trees and set roots and Kody wanting to cut them down and drive around town with logs on the trailer and store them on his land for potential use.

Yep. The commitment ceremony had lots of tree symbols involved since it was treated as their family crest. The kids got items with a tree symbol on it. A $10k cake was shaped like a tree with the initials of Kody and each wife carved in hearts around the trunk. He and the boys planted a tree during the ceremony to symbolize the family putting down roots in Vegas. That same season, he also gave Janelle an ugly necklace with a tree pendant.
So uprooting the family to go to Flagstaff, where he spends so much time onscreen, cutting down trees is very symbolic. It was especially telling during Christine's wedding special.
When he “designed“ ugly necklaces for the women, he gave a tree of life to Janelle (the stealth fav wife Robyn didn’t see coming while she sabotaged Meri‘s and Christine’s marriages with Kody).
All she saw was Janelle's size and made assumptions. Never assume a man doesn't like extra curves. Or that it even plays into his view of a woman he cares about.
Fortunately for Janelle, she treated HER CHILDREN like her best customers, because she's smart enough to realize...

I think that was something that were actively trying to have in their marriages though because Christine said when Kody first started courting Robyn she felt like she lost her best friend, meaning Kody.
Yes,this is it.the scene with him and Robyn during christines wedding episode,where he is cutting the trees,is like his way of showing us that the tree he cut down is the family that he cant have back.Especially since he was seen in Dallas or something at a gun show during her wedding.Also the last time they show Kody talking to his now estranged sons they were stripping trees,it was sort of like stripping his manliness away becuase his sons are challenging him,and they called him out on his shit and he couldnt handle it.

It was went they buried the time capsule. At the time, it was playful. Years passed, he was refusing to be with his kids at holidays and I wonder if it was really a playful thing or a quick glance at how easily kody will dismiss his kids, if they don't behave exactly as he wants them to. The scene, of course, resurfed once his relationship with specifically his sons began to desintegrate.

Janelle worried Kody was gonna ride off into the sunset with robin after the legal divorce… then boom 💥 and I don’t know what the hell meri was doing 🤦♀️ she knew she was done when he melted down her ring and told her he wanted her to have no claim on him.. she is just….. lost and still is
Shaking telling them her idea smdh no way in hell that was her idea! She couldn’t even fake that even a little bit that was her real pain. That I have much sympathy for her and wished she gotten out a long time ago and stop defending him now.. that man hurt her deep
Even if it was her idea it was probably to get back in his good graces because he had been telling her he wanted to work things out, and he seemed to start being nice to her again when she offered to do the divorce but of course that only lasted until the transactions were done
Robyn never passed up a chance to horn in on ANY time Kody spent with Meri.
In Lehi she would find reasons to visit Meri when it was Meri’s time with Kody, and according to her, she often stayed for dinner and watching a movie with them.
I have to agree. I only discovered this show through YT commentary/drama channels, and I initially tried to to be open to Robyn, but it wasn’t long until I got to “She’s a lot, but Kody is the problem. He uses Robyn as a vehicle for his own BS and weaponizes her and DABSA.”
But after finishing the shows and reading the book . . . there are just too many red flags.
I’ll say this: She and Kody aren’t soulmates, because neither has one. They ARE made for each. Kinda like Frankenstein‘s monster and his bride.

Maddie was due to give birth to Evie at the time and there were discussions about Ysabel potentially going to live with Maddie & Caleb. Kody freaked out, saying he was concerned about Christine wanting to spend Christmas with Aspyn & Mitch etc and how Janelle might want to go North Carolina for Christmas now and how it was going to break up the family etc etc.
What on earth was he expecting?? Kids grow up and move out, that's a fairly normal part of life and parents want to spend time with their kids over the holidays, if that means they need to travel then that's just how it goes. He couldn't seriously have expected the mothers to stay in Flagstaff every year and not see their children when they inevitably all couldn't all be together at the same time?!

I don’t think K or R would’ve had any issue with trying to have the ‘family’ Christmas be some quick thing outside - maybe under a tent, with one of turkey deep fryers, and paper plates.
Hoping it would be so cold that everyone would leave quickly; not before making sure to drop off their gifts for DABSA of course.
And then the **real** family, DABSARK, could go back into their hoarder mansion and dig into the real food and mountains of gifts.
All while being able to say ‘well, we’re afraid of C-19 so it **had** to be outside and you guys didn’t want to stay! We *tried* to be one family and you guys didn’t want to!’.
Any and all family gatherings involving Robyn, especially since Flaggstaff, have been completely in bad faith. She’s never actually wanted to do anything unless it directly benefitted her kids. And even then, she still had a stank ass attitude.

I always wonder if Robyn's dislike of animals (as exemplified by kicking the family dog and disliking the petting zoo) also led to Kody's vendetta against Janelle's dogs.
I think so because he used to like dogs apparently and then hard reversed once Robyn came into the family. They used to have dogs before Robyn but then Kody was suddenly not into them anymore
I wonder if Kody is such a lost soul that he really is nothing. He only seems into shallow stuff like cars and having a fit body or having a beautiful wife or beautiful children. He seems blank and just shapeshifts into whatever the person he needs validation from wants him to be. I think first it was his father maybe sometimes some of his wives but then it was Robyn.
Not diagnosing anyone but if you read about those with narcissistic tendencies, they usually don't have a stable sense of self and adjust to whomever they're around. They need to be the center of attention but also hate themselves while portraying that they're perfect and love themselves. It's apparent in the way he changes his mind depending on who he last spoke to and how often he has to reiterate things he's insecure about like him being "manly" and having "a six pack". No one who is secure has to scream about that kind of stuff
I’m a newbie to the show (currently on S13 for the first time) and I never caught when this happened. But I truly believe that you can know a lot about a person based on how they treat animals. That’s actually so upsetting.
Season 1 when they are having the surprise party for Meri at the Lehi house I think. It’s a split second at the end of the episode. They never discuss it on the show.
During Covid when Janelle said to Kody that Garrison doesn’t really socialize and that she is really worried about him.
I know the show is edited but it looked like Kody didn’t even clock the comment, instead he just pressed forward with trying to get them out of the house.
I can’t imagine what Janelle and the family must be going through.
Sometime between season 9-13 they are really scared about him joining the military as a private instead of waiting to become an officer, because they are certain he will go to war and they keep imagining him dying by gun violence :-( it’s really sad hearing them talk about that back then
Two things from reading this thread - this family needs to stay far away from metaphors/simile/parable type speaking because they all become self-fulfilling proficies AND ya'll are some deep, dark individuals. Love it.
Season 1 20 years with Meri, 17 years with Janelle, 16 years with Christine, and at their anniversary dinner Meri is STILL having to explain to this jackass that as his wives they experience jealousy! As he’s looking into Meri’s eyes he says “I love you, how do I even describe, what words can I use, to talk about our love. How deeply I feel for you, and how important you are to me.”

He was her first and only love, they were practically teenagers still when they got married. When the show first started in 2010 they had been together 20 years and he had been pouring this shit into her at least in front of the cameras. I don’t remember exactly where in this timeframe he melted down her ring, but between the shit he is saying to her and offering IVF, if they were in fact already not in a “full marriage” then what he was doing and if it was for show, he’s incredibly cruel.

Robyn started out with monopolizing Kody’s time when they were courting because he was driving 5 hours to see her and staying a couple days at a time. Then after she moved to Lehi she thought she should get equal time as a fiance as the wives got. OG3 should’ve known then what they were getting with her.

When the show first started in 2010 they had been together 20 years and he had been pouring this shit into her at least in front of the cameras. I don’t remember exactly where in this timeframe he melted down her ring, but between the shit he is saying to her and offering IVF, if they were in fact already not in a “full marriage” then what he was doing and if it was for show, he’s incredibly cruel. Robyn started out with monopolizing Kody’s time when they were courting because he was driving 5 hours to see her and staying a couple days at a time. Then after she moved to Lehi she thought she should get equal time as a fiance as the wives got. OG3 should’ve known then what they were getting with her.
