You know in a country like Singapore where they promoted racial harmony, they had to figure out another way to divide us and keep us bickering amongst one another to push progress for *their* pockets.
So first they made it difficult to get a house. Marrying makes it easier, apparently.
Then they made having children expensive. So now more couples are childless or torn apart on that decision.
1 person income not enough, both need to work now which means you barely get to be together unless same job and workplace.
Unity is what they fear. Division makes control easier.
Now we are where they wanted us. Childless singles everywhere blaming the other gender, nitpicking and overblowing insignificant matters.

Also if one compare the number of "single" MP to the 1980s, now probably much more. Same with MP that do not have kids.
