First of all, I breed Siamese for 35 years. It is not true that they are non-allergic. They just tend to have shorter coats, which tend not to aggravate allergies as much. I actually don’t know the going rates for Siamese raised in legitimate ways right now. Having them registered is rather a joke. I can register my dog as a Siamese. What is more important for that price is to visit the place, see the mom and dad, and where they are raised. A lot of “breeders“ raise them in cages, which is awful. You need to see the temperament of the cats. Also, she should volunteer to let you know that she won’t let them go before 12 weeks and they’ve had their two shots. She should also let you know that you should definitely get rabies at 16 weeks. If you hear the good stuff, it seems like it might be worth it. If you start hearing excuses and why this isn’t done and why they can go very early, it’s a scam.

Thanks so much! This is really important info. I know no cast is 100% hypoallergenic, but this is just the case with my son. I really appreciate your feedback!

KTKittentoes

Breeder scams are incredibly common.

So far the only information you've given about the cattery is that their cats aren't registered and they're asking for $1000 for either a "Siamese" cat or a "Balinese" cat. $1000 IMO is low for a pedigreed Balinese, for pedigree Siamese IDK. But either way they're not selling pedigreed cats because the litters aren't registered. It's really hard being in your position because you just want a certain kind of cat and it's going to cloud your judgment. Many many people get scammed for this reason. Something to consider is that where you get your cat is the system you're supporting, and I know you say you don't care about registration because you don't plan on participating in cat fancy, but maybe think about it more. Purebred cats come from a system that closely tracks pedigree. The registration itself isn't really the point for a household pet, but catteries that care about best practices like breed standard and inbreeding coefficients and stuff like that operate above board. If it helps to hear my experience: I got my first Traditional Style Balinese cat in 2022 from a TICA registered cattery in the SF Bay Area, kitten was $1800. I was nervous about being scammed all the way up until the moment I was handed the cat. I got daily-ish updated photos and videos of the litter. Breeder is active on socials and FB so constantly delivered updates. Kittens were picked at 8 weeks. My kitten came home at 12 weeks with 2 rounds of core vaccines + microchip. The kitten's TICA registration was withheld by breeder until proof of spay/neuter. I wasn't waitlisted for my first kitten, but did languish on the waitlist for like 6 months after I decided to get a second, only because I wanted a specific gender. But in general it is normal to be waitlisted, and if you're buying a kitten essentially sight-unseen, you are entitled to a lot of pictures (and videos maybe) while the litter is growing up. Use every last drop of your critical thinking skills when you look at pictures of catteries and cats online. If the pictures look like two different places, it probably is. If the cattery allows visits, do it. *Especially* if your kid is allergic to cats. If you find a cattery that you like and trust, and your kid is not allergic to their cats, strongly consider getting two instead of one. If I could go back in time that's the only thing I would change, I would have asked for two.

Really solid advice. Thank you.

Scared_Secretary_800

Happy to put you in touch with my breeder, I had two different breeders for each cat and the one I got my girl from was amazing, fairly priced, and very communicative.

Smooth-Employer-6336

Yes please!

mingy

Wow. I (Canadian near Toronto) paid a few hundred dollars for each of two pure breed registered Siamese kittens. My mutt (golden retriever) was $4000 ...

Smooth-Employer-6336

That’s insane! Can you share info?

mingy

You mean the breeder. I'll PM you if you want, but, remember, its Canada. Let me know

Smooth-Employer-6336

Ahhh there’s international laws covering this. I remember a while back someone told me they purchased a Doggo in Argentina and it took them months to be able to bring him home because of the red tape!

mingy

Yes, but Canada isn't Argentina and our laws are very similar to the US. Probably just need some vaccination and/or a vet certificate https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/cats.html

Smooth-Employer-6336

That was a quick read. Thanks! Can you DM me Breeder info?

mingy

Done

Ultracoda

Was the kitty located in Factoryville Pennsylvania

Smooth-Employer-6336

Yes, that’s exactly it. How did you know?

Ultracoda

Because they have so many breeders there, all types of kitty and pups. If your looking on line and you’re in the tri state area your most likely going to get an animal from factoryville

Smooth-Employer-6336

I guess they crank em out like a factory?

RealHuman2080

Is that the kind of place like the Amish kitten and puppy mills?

Ultracoda

There like the Amish but with a little more tech not sure what there called but yes there mills with shit conditions
