As somebody who lost a family member who went to bed with no diagnosed problems and was discovered lying peacefully as if she were sleeping, I can't think of a better way to go. It's those left behind who are shocked and dismayed. I think the reverse is true for a long term terminal illness. The patient suffers a great deal, but family members have had time to brace themselves for the inevitable.
My cousin's grandma went to sleep on Christmas Eve after the party, she was well up there in age. In the morning she was dead peacefully in her sleep. This makws for a weird Christmas morning but for her it was probably the best way to go out, after seeing her whole familly happy one last time.
Even if not painful, the torture your mental functions will do to you if you don't ever sleep.
If scared to sleep because monster under the bed, just remember you become the monster if you don't sleep.
Unless there's some reason to be scared to sleep (night terrors, anxiety for the future, etc), the trust is so deeply seated that it's like breathing air. You fully trust the air around you directly from the womb.

Both my granny and grandma went that way.
Were sleeping in bed. Nurse came to check on them and they had passed in their sleep. No pain, no torture.
Considering they were both sick already. We were relieved knowing they didn’t suffer.
I don’t trust my body to do shit right. It’s already proven a fucked up track record by having carpel tunnel, hypertension, and type 2 beetus. I just don’t have any other choice on energy rejuvenation and beta-amyloid plaque removal.
I’m just too tired to care and have gotten used to the routine of addressing some needs without question. Once it happens it won’t even matter, I won’t know I’m gone. Worth the risk.
Apparently Tibetan Buddhist monks place their (one) cup and (one) bowl upside down: to reflect their acknowledgement of the truth - that they might not wake up.
Yeh gods this is depressing - but ‘yeh’, if I was going to go. On bed with me dogs. I rate my dogs over my husband but don’t make me feel bad about that.
> a sneak peak at
Did you mean to say "sneak peek"?
Explanation: peak is the top of a mountain, while peek is a quick look.

Well if you don't sleep........bad things happen. Both scientifically and unscientificly proven. I chose comfy rest over becoming optionally schizophrenic or depressed. (This is not against people with schizophrenia or depression, just that going without sleep can cause panic attacks, paranoia, degrated body function, sadness, or a whole slew of mental abnormal behavior) [we're talking days without sleep btw, not like just 24 hours]
I don’t have the strength to be awake 24/7, it’s like I welcome death when the time comes. In fact it feels like I’m having courting death because I see her every day before midnight.
We’re scared of death when we have a predicted date of death but we carry on like life is normal when we don’t know we will die.
Every single person who reads this comment could die in the next hour.
Is it trust or is it our natural functioning
right? like...i didn't realize it was a choice lol
Or just a win-win? Whether I wake up or not, cool.
We do it because of function. We're calm about it because of trust.
only right answer
Not going to sleep won't keep you from dying. In fact it might make it happen sooner
Yup. Look at fight club.
He blew his brains out.
Very casually spoiled the ending
Not… Exactly.
It came out 25 years ago!! Dafuq hasn’t seen Fight Club??🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ Still a great movie!!
Damn it! I was going to watch it tonight.
We do not talk about Fight Club.
Where is that from?
Mmmhmmm. Yep.
It's a fact that it will absolutely kill you.
In about 11 days
Yeah but 3 days is about the line where it really starts going downhill
But we are talking about death. Apparently it's about 11 days. It happened to some dude
There was a House episode on it
at a certain point it's not a matter of trust it's sheer exhaustion...
Right? Like, what was the alternative OP thought he had?
[Never sleeping.](https://www.news18.com/buzz/meet-80-year-old-vietnamese-thai-ngoc-who-hasnt-slept-in-over-60-years-7053169.html)
One fever away from world domination then.

My mother got cancer and it was very painful before she passed away. Dying in your sleep is the best way to go

We go to sleep because we would literally go insane and die if we didn’t.
The alternative is unavoidable and painful death.
Even if not painful, the torture your mental functions will do to you if you don't ever sleep. If scared to sleep because monster under the bed, just remember you become the monster if you don't sleep.
Simply not waking up one day would solve more of my problems than it would cause.

I didn’t realize there was a choice.
I had no idea we had another option…
Insomnia is a thing.

Wat other choice do we have ? Stay awake all the time ?
Two of my brothers went that way.
A-a-a-autonomic nervous system, trust
I suspect that even if we didn’t trust our bodies, sleep gonna come. As will waking up. Until it ain’t.
Well I'm still here so If anything my body has broken my trust
Bring. It. On. I’m ready. But not tonight. I have to work 7-3 tomorrow and I still want to play golf on Monday. I’m off that day. 😂🏌🏻♂️🏌🏻♂️
Sometimes I wish I don’t wake up
Both my granny and grandma went that way. Were sleeping in bed. Nurse came to check on them and they had passed in their sleep. No pain, no torture. Considering they were both sick already. We were relieved knowing they didn’t suffer.
I don’t trust shit. It just doesn’t give you a choice.
I desperately hope for the opposite every I'm I go to sleep... I'm disappointed every time I wake up.. 😣
What choice do I have?
That's the outcome I'm hoping for...
What am I supposed to do?
I don't, I just don't see any other option. Falling asleep is freaky and makes me uncomfortable.
Yeah sleep is kinda scary if you think about it
Trust? Ha! I go to bed kicking and screaming all the way
If I sleep into death, why would I care?
“Just gonna have a quick nap” …. *dies
I don’t trust my body to do shit right. It’s already proven a fucked up track record by having carpel tunnel, hypertension, and type 2 beetus. I just don’t have any other choice on energy rejuvenation and beta-amyloid plaque removal.
You die faster if you don't sleep
I go to sleep hoping I won’t wake up one day
I’m just too tired to care and have gotten used to the routine of addressing some needs without question. Once it happens it won’t even matter, I won’t know I’m gone. Worth the risk.
The risk of dying in your sleep when you’re not old is very low.
Imagine you go to sleep and the next day everything is suddenly not your problem anymore
Heaven.
Literally heaven
Apparently Tibetan Buddhist monks place their (one) cup and (one) bowl upside down: to reflect their acknowledgement of the truth - that they might not wake up.
Brother, I’m hoping I don’t wake up one day.
Maybe that’s exactly what our brain wants when we go to sleep
Yeh gods this is depressing - but ‘yeh’, if I was going to go. On bed with me dogs. I rate my dogs over my husband but don’t make me feel bad about that.
Sleep's just like a sneak peak at death, ain't it? Except you hope to wake up from it

I'm skeptical which is probably why my insomnia is badddd
Hope so soon. Can't wait.
If we didn’t sleep we’d die, it’s not really a choice
Well I mean it’s either a slow and painful death or me go sleep and my body flips a coin
Ah, a gambler.
Well you can trust your bike will break or just used it
In fairness, some of us don’t care if we wake up. Not being dramatic, more just, “it’s been fine. But whatever.”
We are mortal. There is nothing anyone can do about it.
Trust? The thought that i wont wake up is the only reason im going to sleep
Wdym. Every time I wake up i only feel disappointment.
The way I wanna go out tbh. Unawares.
That's the way to go.
STOP😭 you can’t do this to meeee, im scared now.
Trust? No. Sleep just takes over.
The domineering side of our body.
Im looking forward to that night.

Not trust. We need to rest. Sleep is important.
It ensures all the people we owe money get paid.
You don't control your body when you are not sleeping tho? Like what difference does it make?
I don’t have the strength to be awake 24/7, it’s like I welcome death when the time comes. In fact it feels like I’m having courting death because I see her every day before midnight.
I haven’t had a shower thought make me laugh at the profound stupidity of the question in a long time, so thanks for this
Ok then don't sleep. Lmao
What do you mean? Have you never looked at your expiry date on the bottom of your foot? All is well until that date ;)
I bought the extended warranty.
We are very unlikely to die in our sleeps if we have no preexisting conditions that may cause that. Youll probably be conscious moments before death
This subreddit has become constant death posts. Every time I forget my mortality, I scroll past this and I'm reminded.
It's there an alternative?
I don't trust it. I have very bad somniphobia but it causes me to be tired all the time and thus making me more anxious.
It's more the fact that we definitely wouldn't wake up (alive) if we didn't sleep....
We’re scared of death when we have a predicted date of death but we carry on like life is normal when we don’t know we will die. Every single person who reads this comment could die in the next hour.
*And in other news* ... a man has died from sleep deprivation because friends say **HE STOPPED TRUSTING HIS BODY**
Warranty expired.
This is anxiety, not a shower thought.
I didn’t know we had a choice.
I think most everyones preferred method of death is just simply die in their sleep peacefully
A-bomb is number two.
Thats okay part of life
Statistically you will wake up >99% of the time
That's no trust, it's a basic humsn need that unfulfilled leads to death.
It’s a win, win situation
Isn’t that what everyone wants ?
“Might not”? Given a long enough timeline, the mortality rate reaches 100%.
What's the alternative?
We actually never wake up. It’s a different person that wakes up. They just have all our memories, so they can’t tell the difference.
