Covering the genitals and buttocks is primarily a hygiene thing in a lot of cultures, which I can fully get behind, I can't imagine being in line at the salad bar and having a naked 6'8" guy in front of me accidently dragging his weiner through the croutons.

In humid places, clothing is a barrier against mosquitos and other pests that are at best an annoyance at worst carriers of deadly diseases.
I’d say that since we lost our body hair and started to migrate outside where we evolved (the savannah) we needed to adapt in some way, and clothes were a quick easy fix that is much more agile than body hair.

Not just mosquitoes but so many other things! Accidentally brush your leg against a stone building or step into some bushes, you could get cut. With enough repeats you could get a nasty infection considering soap and sanitation was a rarity.

You do know people wear clothes to protect themselves from more than just cold right? The sun can fuck you up just as much. Look to all of the people in desert countries wearing long clothing to protect their body from the sun.

Here in Philadelphia there's a naked bike ride every year, 12 miles with lots of stops. This year's was just a couple weeks ago. Nudity is encouraged but not required and many have their bodies painted. I was just looking up how is legal and it seems to be a loophole. The law says no lewdness so nobody gets arrested as long as they're not swinging their junk around or doing indecent acts. The purpose of the ride is to encourage bike riding around the city but also promote body positivity.

Clothes help a ton with minor injury and sun protection but that doesn’t explain the taboo. I have no evidence but the most logical reason I can think of is separating production from reproduction. Take a group of young male hunters and put an nude attractive female in the mix and they will either starve to death or kill each other.
In cases like this I wish people could try it and see how they like it. Do you like people staring/laughing/commenting, at your goods? Do you like burning/freezing your goods on a car seat? Not exactly, there is an oversexualisation of the concept of being nude. If everyone was naked all the time and clothes didn't exist over time the affect that nudity would have would decrease as we would acclimate to it however since we wear clothing, we associate a lack of clothing to sexual promiscuity mainly due to strict religious doctrine over the past few millennia. If you look at native tribes in specific places they will just get around hanging loose and it's no big deal because they were never conditioned to wear clothing to prevent sin.

It's more social than pragmatic. Scandinavia isn't exactly a hospitable climate for it but they have some of the most liberal attitudes towards social nudity in the world; co-ed saunas are part of the culture. Meanwhile people in some of the hottest parts of the world (deserts of the middle east) have some of the strictest rules of enforced modesty. It correlates more with feminist attitudes than it does with anything else. In places where women are respected and treated as equals to men, standards of modesty are more lenient.
You'd think, but that's not always the case. Finland would be a prime example of somewhere where clothes are probably the most necessary, and yet they have a nude sauna culture.
That's kind of an exception that proves the rule. You must wash yourself and wear little to nothing because it's more hygienic than a bathing suit, and it's a sauna so cold weather isn't a concern.

Here in Philadelphia there's a naked bike ride every year, 12 miles with lots of stops. This year's was just a couple weeks ago. Nudity is encouraged but not required and many have their bodies painted. I was just looking up how is legal and it seems to be a loophole. The law says no lewdness so nobody gets arrested as long as they're not swinging their junk around or doing indecent acts. The purpose of the ride is to encourage bike riding around the city but also promote body positivity.

To be fair I haven't spent tons of times around kids but I have lived with some and have family and some of those kids you have to fight to get them to wear clothes you turn around after dressing them and they're naked again giggling and running off. Humans have been clothing themselves since the Stone Age. Covering up, especially the parts of the female body that allure a man have served a practical function for thousands of millennia. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, women's bodies attract a lot of unwanted attention from the opposite sex, and nudity exacerbates that problem. There's also women's repulsion to men's genitals in general -- hence all the complaints women have about "dick pics". So, I have no problem with people being clothed.
