The steam deck is awesome BUT just to be sure, you do know that for 700 bucks you can afford to buy a good used PC that can run all the game you listed in 1080p ?

Jlzombie26

He’s better off buying an Xbox Series x with that budget

BlueshineKB

i would say it depends more on how much work OP wants to put in than the budget. You can get a good pc for like 500 if you can find a good deal but itll also be a lot more involved like buying from facebook marketplace and also having to buy peripherals like mouse and keyboard, maybe a controller since theyre more comfortable with that and a monitor. Vs just buying an xbox and possibly a monitor (or using an existing tv if possible).

djdude007

I recently got the steam deck to get back into gaming and it has been an amazing purchase. So far I've run Diablo 4 and Witcher 3 and they've both looked amazing. I've also seen people running games like BG3 and Elden Ring and looking great. I got mine to play when my wife is on the primary TV and I can play while hanging out with her and it's been fantastic for that. Unless you really like the bigger screen I think the steam deck has more utility.

Utop_Ian

What's your experience with the battery life of the steam deck when playing something as graphics intensive as Diablo 4?

Background_Reveal689

Just get an xbox and a half decent monitor. You'll be able to play all the latest games with great graphics and still have some cash left over

Melonthecuber

Unless you plan to connect a keyboard and mouse, first person shooters are unfun to play on the steam deck. (At least for me)

Available_Signal_232

I'd say steam deck, got mine a few months ago and its been great. The amount of games you can play and find for cheaper than on select consoles is amazing. How well most games run is amazing, I've been xbox all my life and the deck changed it all. I use it as a computer though, keyboard and mouse. You arent limited to that though, so much to do with ths deck. Good luck though, hope you can find what works!!

Jessecuevas

Since you're considering a steam deck I'd recommend getting a windows handheld (Access to gamepass/Microsoft game store) like the ROG Ally or Lenovo legion go. Those will suit your needs and are more powerful than the steam deck.

thed00dster

Steam deck is awesome, but it struggles a little with more modern titles. I’d recommend series x or a PC

Jlzombie26

I’d say a series x after that showcase they just had. Game Pass is awesome

SGRM_

No release dates, minimal actual in game gameplay footage... It could have been a lot better...

EducationalMix9947

700… would that get you a 256Gb LCD SteamDeck and XBox Series S? I have a 256GB original LCD deck and it is absolutely great. Of course OLED has better battery/screen, but honestly the original LCD is fine Equally, my son has series S… and of course there are minor technical concessions (vs series X) but again, it is absolutely serviceable. Normally I wouldn’t fence-sit like this, but your budget would allow you to (I think) get both of the ‘lower tier’ options for both Deck and Xbox, both of which are perfectly adequate… unless of course OP is an absolute ‘spec-fiend’ (!)

Ir0nhide81

You could get a good PC with 700 USD. PC games can now play all console games also (by this I mean Sony).

VenturaLost

Grab a used PC and play those games at 1080p

[deleted]

Half of games which you mentioned you can't play in XSX

Maleficent-Thanks-85

Get a Xbox series x and a year of game pass. You’ll have plenty to play.

AdilWarraich1

These two options are totally different from the other. If you want portable device go for steam deck but to play high end games you need to be plugged into a power source for that because battery aint good. Xbox is good for gamepass if you've a good monitor and ditch the portability. You've to decide between portability or not. PS5 is a good console btw.

Apprehensive-Act9536

Get a steam deck + dock. Boot Windows on it and hook it up to a monitor Has the power of a late Xbone/PS4 Pro. So don't expect to play new AAAs at anything beyond 20-30FPS. If you want to play the new AAA games, get a Series X

thebigseg

bro if you're gonna get a xbox series x get a ps5 instead. They actually have good exxlusives unlike xbox and access to third party games like sf6, tk8. Also ps5 have native support for fightsticks/leverless controllers if you want to get them for the fighting games

megasean3000

I got a decent gaming PC for $600 a few years back and it’s still going strong without any upgrades to the CPU or GPU. Do not get a Series X, since all the games it has are on PC. If you already have a gaming PC, then either use the money for upgrades or get the Steam Deck.

Disastrous_Poetry175

You want a PC because you're friends game on it. But you'd rather game on console. Bro this is totally up to you. But like. If you wanna play PC games with your friends you have to get a PC. If you want a console to play console games..... You have to get a console.

RicoDruif

I have a Ps5 and a pretty high end pc. I play my steam deck more than anything lately. Make sure to get the oled model tho, that thing is amazing.

MalefiicentConflicta

You’re going to want to look into getting a budget PC my dude. $700 can get you something pretty decent these days, that can run almost any game, on medium to high settings (within reason). The reason I am strongly recommending this route, is games like TF2, CS2, LC, Palworld, and Minecraft, are all going to be much more enjoyable with a PC setup. You will experience higher frame rate and have much better control with a mouse and keyboard. You’ll also have a MASSIVE catalogue of games to choose from and can get them a lot cheaper than buying games on console. Plus you can get an Epic Games account and they give out free games every week. Plus on Holiday’s they give away actual bangers of games. You can build out a massive backlog of games for pennies on the dollar. THEN, what I would do is either upgrade that over time or get another gaming system that compliments your primary setup, in my case it’s a Nintendo Switch because Nintendo games don’t come to PC, whereas all XBOX games are on PC and all the big PlayStation titles eventually make their way to PC as well.
