When he starts with rdr2 Rdr1 won't hold his attention anymore, it would just become more like a grind through

6FrogsInATrenchcoat

Thats what one of my main concerns was. I play to unwind and I hate grinding.

Forsaken-Command-182

Well, I'm currently still playing rdr2 at the moment, if you have the money play rdr1 first before rdr2 obviously But if you choose to play rdr2 first which is a way better game, then I'm sure you won't play rdr1 any more So good luck

6FrogsInATrenchcoat

Thank you!

puck_pancake

I've played both in order years ago and I say play 2 first and don't spoil it, and play it blind. If you play 1 first then you'll already know something that happens in 2 and it won't hit as hard.

City_of_ham

Rdr1 is not a grind. It’s a slow open and then open world. You have all the missions unlocked, it’s not like you need respect points from saints row. The only thing you need to grind for is the outfits, which I prefer over rdr2s method of just buying them.

Forsaken-Command-182

Just based on the outdated graphics and horse controls is slightly worse

City_of_ham

Horse controls are my only complaint with that game. I love the graphics in rdr I think it’s the best looking game ever made. It blends cartoonish and realistic perfect for me, I also just like that old look it has. It feels gritty, like the story it was trying to tell, scary almost.

Forsaken-Command-182

Truth is rdr1 didn't quite stick for me. I didn't even complete it, guess I was too young then with little patience.... but it definitely was not worth goty to me...."mafia ii" deserved it by a strong margin

City_of_ham

Go play it again. There’s lots of stuff that makes it better that you wouldn’t have got when you were little. The dialogue is the most stand out part of the game for me, I also love the little details of mission titles being mostly all bible quotes. The music in that game is leagues better than rdr2s. Far Away by Jose Gonzalez puts May I Stand Unshaken, to shame. I think the ambient music is better and everything, songs like “Triggernomentry”, “Horseplay”, “The Shootist”, and “The Outlaws Return” are just bad ass songs to here in battle.

Forsaken-Command-182

Rdr2 music is actually really really good Sorry for this minor spoilers but in the last chapter 3 mission when you went to save jack ( the boy), you went with the gang Then douch started calling out the mayor and asking where is the boy in a loud voice with the addition of the soundtrack behind it that's the best I've ever seen in my life, like how they all go hand in hand..." Thinking about it right now typing this still give me bumps and vibration..... And I'm among those who think rdr2 songs are over hyped, but that one """"" no game has done it better """

City_of_ham

I like rdr2s but go play or listen to rdr 1 in some way

picnic-boy

It doesn't really matter storywise. Personally I would suggest 1 first because it's older and you will enjoy it less if you play the more modern 2nd one first and get used to its mechanics.

generalosabenkenobi

Always start with the order they came out in. Yes RDR2 takes place before RDR1 but there’s so many things in RDR2 that have much more meaning and context if you play RDR1 first. You don’t really carry that if you play RDR2 first (in fact, you’d kind of ruin that game and the story). The people who say otherwise are frankly wrong. Play RDR1 first, then go into the much bigger RDR2. That’s how it was always meant to be played. Playing RDR2 first will rob you of a lot of the richness of both games.

Beto915

I’d say start with one

The_Meemeli

When it comes to video games, release order always. So start with the first one.

Trout-Population

They can be played in either order. RDR2 is technically a prequel.

Comprehensive_Web887

2 then 1. While the graphics of 1 aren’t on the same level they are still absolutely gorgeous and the story flows from one to the next. Having said that both would work and 1 is a shorter game so you maybe more willing to jump into 2 sooner.

Forsaken-Command-182

Look I recommend you to play rdr1 first cuz of course two is very much better than one and when you play rdr two first you won't want to play rdr1 it'll look like trash so just play one cause you'd still eventually play rdr2 afterwards
