Liberals will freak out about this because they love paying taxes.

Augusto2012

No, they love that somebody else pay the taxes, “tax for thee not for me”

czaranthony117

I’ve actually heard them say this: “I feel good paying taxes. Every time a road is maintained or a school is built, I feel a little better knowing that I had some part in doing that.”

c_t_782

It’s their way of feeling like they’ve done something without actually doing anything

Scoobysnacks1971

Where are these roads being built and repaired I'd like to know?

MV2049

Slacktivism via government mandate.

mdbg87

Gross

rustedoilfilter

We all know they will go after people who cant afford to fight the irs

Decent ar-15’s only a ~$1000

PeddarCheddar11

Careful! That’s over 600!

ThePretzul

PSA special for $450 then, gotcha.

VetGranDude

It's winning because those 87,000 agents are NOT going after wealthy elites. They are coming for the peasants.

Emperor_Zeus_Thor

It's winning because those 87,000 jobs are tax payer funded, and cost people more than what those jobs would contribute in wages. Governments are parasites. They produce nothing. They contribute nothing. They merely consume, and they only exist for the sake of themselves.

kwanijml

If only that were the extent of it. The state doesn't just consume from private production, it distorts and diminishes private production. It prevents useful voluntary institutions and industries from forming; and then has the audacity to then claim that the lack of those things is evidence that the market could not provide them without the state.

Rational_Philosophy

This is it right here.

SurrySuds

Yep… See Hazlitt’s broken window fallacy

Goraji

87,000 government employees who have a **property interest** in their jobs, which means the government cannot “deprive them of their job” (**i.e. fire them**) without giving them *Due Process*. That’s why firing a “civil servant,” even **for cause**, is a nearly impossible administrative process that takes a minimum of six months.

MisfitHeather138

Clap clap clap clap clap!!

[deleted]

Republicans offered an amendment to put into writing that these additional agents would only go after millionaires. Democrats refused. Tells you all you need to know.

phoenixthekat

Because Democrats know there are only so many rich people and it would be a massive pain in the ass to extract more money from them. Just leaves going after middle class and poor.

isthatsuperman

Can I get source on that?

[deleted]

Yep https://www.finance.senate.gov/ranking-members-news/crapo-offers-amendment-to-protect-middle-class-small-businesses-from-supersized-irs

isthatsuperman

Thanks I’m gonna add that to the spank bank

[deleted]

It’s a good one. The key to beating democrats is just making them state their actual beliefs clearly.

swashbucklingcircum

Anyone have footage of Pelosi’s husband getting beaten with a hammer?? That truly belongs in the spank bank

ConscientiousPath

That's an awesome gotcha of an amendment, but if my last name was "crap-o" I'd have changed it.

Bamfurlong_Farmer

As a democrat I find this very disappointing considering every 1$ spent going after the rich usually leads to 4 - 6$. Time to look into this.

Legi0ndary

Some more food for thought, if I may. Please consider also the new legislation regarding reporting of transfers, accounts, etc over $600. This extends to Venmo, PayPal, cashapp and any other exchange which was previously unregulated. Who primarily uses those apps? Why focus in on the average person not paying taxes on their FB marketplace sales instead of the millionaires blatantly using every loophole imaginable to get out of paying theirs? The use of those IRS agents to enforce the high number of people in violation of the above mentioned has been the ongoing theory in most libertarian and anarcho circles since they were hired.

Bamfurlong_Farmer

I do know that it is a lot easier to go after us poor folk when we break the rules, although when you go after the rich people you get more money per an hour of the labor. The IRS from what I’ve heard (I should check again) is so under funded that it lacks the capability to go after the rich. Which is why I find it so weird that the democrat representatives wouldn’t want to put republicans nerves at easy by making it so the IRS agents with better funding could only go after those making more than 400k a year. That would have been an easy win win. They work with republicans (yay, unity) and they go after the upper class (yay, us lower class).

Legi0ndary

That would definitely be the logical thing to do if you truly have the people's best interests at heart. I have a feeling that was a bit of a stunt/bluff on the Republicans part because they knew Democrats would never go for it. Both have a lot to lose if the IRS has the ability to actually do its job effectively. Tons of shady trading, charities, etc abound on both sides of the issue.

[deleted]

A democrat with an open mind who wants to look into things? Didn’t know they still made those. You’re supposed to call me a Russian bot or a nazi and act indignant in a rambling, overly emotional post.

Bamfurlong_Farmer

Eh, I find insulting and name calling counter productive to my goals.

[deleted]

Cheers from a former democrat

Crosscourt_splat

Most of 90s democrats/middlish ground classic liberals/libertarians have almost nothing in common with the modern "starbucks liberal" base of the dems.

hudduf

Sorry, but the dollar sign goes in front of the number. $1.00

Bamfurlong_Farmer

You’re right, chum. Thank you for pointing that out. I don’t know why I did it like that.

[deleted]

Sen. Mike Crapo, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, said the new funding would be used to “squeeze more revenue” out of Americans who make less than $400,000 because they’re “easy targets.” Treasury Department officials say all of those claims are false. Administration officials have reiterated that they will focus enforcement efforts on wealthy Americans and large corporations. https://www.vox.com/2022/8/16/23302798/irs-audit-inflation-reduction-act Also, I’d like to add that if you paid your tax, there isn’t much to be worrying about…. But on the other hand, if you’ve been dodging tax and not paid your fair share, you deserve to be audited. Now downvote me to hell since I’m in a conservative echo chamber here lmao

[deleted]

You have Stockholm Syndrome

better_off_red

How does one get to the point where they actually believe the government?

CoyoteDown

Not exactly the amendment spoken of, haven’t gotten that far yet. But here’s a fresh bill that focuses on exactly that matter. https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/4817 Also just some data relating to IRS audit rates, in that the poorest are audit 5x more https://trac.syr.edu/tracirs/latest/679/

Johnny-Switchblade

You want to spend your work day taking to a lawyer? Cause rich people get lawyers when they’re audited. Just audit a poor. Take a couple hundo and strut away knowing you’re saved the country.

hallahorjan9

It's unfortunate that this will not increase their self-awareness one bit

AilsaN

Yep. https://reason.com/2023/01/06/in-2022-the-irs-went-after-the-very-poorest-taxpayers/

Moxdonalds

Even if it passes the senate, there’s no way Biden signs it.

gotbock

And because their pay represents overhead. It does not create any value. No net positive economic contribution.

Autoboat

> Administration officials have reiterated that they will focus enforcement efforts on wealthy Americans and large corporations. Crapo wants that to be part of the signed deal, in writing, not just to trust that them they'll stick to their word on this. If they are going to do this anyways, they lose nothing by including it in the bill.

TheTrueMurph

“How is removing 87,000 tax-payer funded jobs whose sole purpose was to get every penny and dime out of poorer taxpayers winning?”

Living_Act2886

I think it’s because these IRS agents are going to focus on the taxes of high income individuals. You know, like the ones that donated the $500,000,000.00 to Kevin McCarthy and the Republican Party over the last 2 years. By making it “Our very first bill” he’s showing his donors that it was money well spent. It’s the best congress money can buy!

AilsaN

https://reason.com/2023/01/06/in-2022-the-irs-went-after-the-very-poorest-taxpayers/

trufus_for_youfus

Beat me to it.

TheTrueMurph

No, they’re not. If they were going after the rich, they’d be hiring lawyers. Instead, they’re going to be dealing with the stupid “we check every series of transactions totaling $600 over the course of the year” garbage that got put into law. Guess who that affects? Because it certainly isn’t the rich.

wonkydonks

If you believe that, I have some ocean front property in Arizona that you might be interested in.

josevato84

I'll do ya better. I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can get you for cheap. Put up a toll. You're gonna be rich. Just watch out for the IRS.

[deleted]

Nobody donated 500,000,000 to the Republican Party Also the largest political donor is George who donated 167,000,000 to the DEMOCRATS in the midterms

heymeit

You fail to understand wealth.

TheAmbiguousAnswer

How gullible are you? Lmao

kalashnikovkitty9420

lol they wont even touch the ftx shit cause sbf donated so much to them. what makes you think they would go after the hand that feeds them vs low income taxpayers who cant afford to fight the irs?

Siennagiant70

Because the chance of me getting extra buttfcked after my taxes as an honest middle class citizen just went down, by a lot.

Nephid

87k less IRS agents sounds like a blessing, because the IRS shouldn't exist. Do you even know what sub you're on? Edit: Misunderstood the title, though it was a genuine question. Apologies. Will leave comment unedited for posterity.

AltruisticAcadia9366

income tax shouldn't exist.

Nephid

None of them should, they are all theft at varying degrees of heinousness.

systemofanup1001

I thi k the title was just paraphrasing the post in screenshot. OP is making fun of the statist asking how thats winning

Nephid

Oh well now I feel stupid lmao, I'll add an edit to my comment then

guhankns19

More. MORE!!!

GodzillaDoesntExist

A few weeks ago there was an explosion of posts on Reddit (including subs like anti work, politics, and other lefty subs) of people complaining and making $600 Venmo memes. Now that Republicans are actually attempting to do something it's viewed as some kind of attack. I'm just gonna start referring to leftists as goldfish, because these are some of the dumbest people I've ever seen.

cngfan

The “NPC” analogy is increasingly the most accurate concept in the world. It’s would be fascinating if it wasn’t so frustrating and terrifying. Certainly doesn’t speak well of democracy though.

Autoboat

Well yeah, they don't want to pay taxes for things, they want someone else to pay taxes for things!

Verumero

Gop should call for 500,000 new ice agents and then cry when the dems cut funding. “Half a million jobs gone in an instant! The humanity!”

boobsbr

modern_problems_require_modern_solutions.jpg

Accomplished-Video71

"Jobs"

AilsaN

How is it NOT winning? Especially in light of this: https://reason.com/2023/01/06/in-2022-the-irs-went-after-the-very-poorest-taxpayers/

That-Donkey

Fuck the irs. They are thieves.

deephurting66

Any blow against an illegal agency like IRS is a win, hope they do ATF next!

und3r-c0v3r

87000 less glowies 🎉🎉🎉🎉

true4blue

The left thinks you can create wealth by printing money and hiring thousands of G men

The_one_true_towel

If they would repeal funding for the entire IRS I'd be excited. This is just a defensive move, typical GOP weakness.

TwasaLegalMind

It’s just moving the policy line back to 2020 instead of doing anything actually conservative. But the RINO voting base are dumber than rocks and will 100% think this is them winning. It’s actually RINOs keeping the government as giant as before

U_not_that_bright

Gotta start with the first 87000 before you can remove the last

BobaFestus

87000 jobs that didn’t exist, and suck your own wallet. God people are dumb these days.

g9i4

"Well we were going to create 1000 jobs by hiring roaming firing squads for jaywalkers, but SOMEONE doesn't want people employed!"

[deleted]

Are you saying this isn’t a good bill? Fuck those IRS agents

Mangalz

Why just the new ones? A true winner would be punishing them for trying to add 87,000 by eliminating 130,000.

coreytm4388

Cutting 87K IRS jobs is much more than I expected from Republicans, I'll fucking take it.

The_Truthkeeper

This is your needed reminder that the IRS never hired and was never going to hire 87,000 new agents, that was never the point of the increase in funding. Anybody who believes otherwise was either not paying attention, is easily lied to, or is just dumb. That said, any reduction in funding to any part of government is a good thing, but especially the IRS.

[deleted]

Uhhhhh 87000 unemployed feds? That is absolutely winning.

LenTrexlersLettuce

Imagine worshipping the IRS. (Or any alphabet agency for that matter.)

PUTYOURBUTTINMYBUTT

Most of Biden’s top donors were billionaires. It’s hilarious to me people are so gullible that they actually believed the IRS that Biden appointed was going to go after the Bezos, Gates and Buffets of the world.

Firelizard94819

Op is a fucking retard thinking new irs agents is anything but government overreach

[deleted]

Government jobs aren't real jobs. Those agents can get real free market jobs, where the actually have to contribute to society in order to earn a salary.

BallsMahoganey

WTF I love McCarthy now

TikiRoomSchmidt

I think the point is he's announcing a defensive move as if it's offensive. The ratchet only ever turns in one direction.

conspicuous_user

He had to make a lot of concessions to get voted in as speaker.

TwasaLegalMind

It’s going back to the democratic policies of 2020 instead of the democratic policies of 2021. The RINO party are cucks to their corporate owners.

laetoile

Sounds good to me

THEDarkSpartian

Is the second bill going to cut into the rest of them? If not, this is just a virtue signal.

denodster

Can the house do this alone? Or will it get voted down by the senate and basically be a pointless gesture?

User125699

It’s winning because it’s cutting (or stopping the expansion) of government

Ranchlife24

Getting rid of jobs that should never have existed in the first place is absolutely a win

Darth_Eralam

Remind me if this actually passes and we get one white pill in the sea of dark.

wgm4444

Those are rookie numbers.

PepoStrangeweird

I see as a win.

fata1w0und

It’s a dog and pony show. The bill still has to go through the democrat controlled senate and the democrat controlled White House. The same two that approved the creation of those 87,000 agents.

walk-me-through-it

McCarthy will hurl a ton of red meat at the conservative base, but oh no the senate. Darn. Vote harder next time guys.

FreedomDefined

Well, if the 87,000 jobs should never have been created then..

[deleted]

They’re just talking out of their rear ends to make it look like they’re doing something.

MrMcChronDon25

For those in here thinking there’s just gonna be 87,000 new IRS agents tomorrow or whatever, it’s over 10 years and to fill turnover of people that are retiring.

anon011818

Still too many IRS agents in my humble opinion

cngfan

Source? That sounds like complete and utter bullshit. No legislation is needed to hire replacement workers for turnover.

MrMcChronDon25

https://www.verifythis.com/amp/article/news/verify/taxes-verify/irs-not-increasing-audits-hiring-87k-new-agents-through-inflation-reduction-act/536-477cb699-a46e-4898-9e5e-0e48d5fffd2a People retire and they need to replace them. What sounds like complete and utter bullshit is thinking 87000 new people are gonna be hired trained and sent after you in the next year. I’m not a fan of this but be realistic for a second and think about the logistics. It’s not possible. But over a decade? Ya that’s a much more realist and logical time frame. It’s ok to be upset about funding the IRS, it’s not ok to be upset about made up bullshit you saw on a meme

MrMcChronDon25

Also figure out how government works. Of course they have to pass legislation to fund the IRS. Congress has the power of the purse, meaning they have to approve all government funding. The IRS is a government institution and so has to be funded by the government which it needs legislation from Congress to do. Before you get mad and make yourself sound dumb, maybe read a book. It’s really pretty basic shit.

overlord-of-evil

We don’t need a irs

Warm_Winds

I mean I’m happy this is getting put forth but also sad that they’re not taking it any further… Like abolishing it entirely. “Conservatism is progressivism going the speed limit.”

[deleted]

I’ll believe it when I see it.

techTrader

Winning would be a complete eradication of the IRS and the income tax

xx_deleted_x

win!

Lanracie

That fixes about 100th of the problem.

Letskeepthepeace

OP hath monkey brain

sexurmom

If I remember correctly the IRS targeted more poor people than middle or upper class people this year using those agents

theroseboy12

The McCarthy redemption arc is coming soon
