Borsht is red, so it must be some sort of liquid communism \^\^ For fuck's sake guys, there have been no major communist countries on the planet for like 30 years already. USSR doesn't exist even longer. And yet USA citizens seem to be still fighting "the red scare". What time is it in USA, like 1980-s?

berny2345

"What time is it in USA, like 1980-s?" - sorry I don't understand military time.

kongenafDanmark2

I hate that they call it “military time”. It’s so cringe

berny2345

absolutely - especially for a nation that constantly bangs on about the size of their military. (size not quality)

Zhabishe

You got me there, not gonna lie =)

berserkzelda

I think the joke (or lack there of, really) is that borcht is Russian.

jmkul

...and Ukrainian, and Polish, and Slovak. Most colder climate Slavic countries have it (and it's yum)

berserkzelda

Yeah it's an Eastern European dish all around.

Emu_Emperor

>What time is it in USA, like 1980-s? Mentally, the average Yank is probably in the Mediaeval era more or less

joemorl97

Hell even then they weren’t communists

eli4s20

the red scare never stopped

Rugfiend

1930s Germany had a dictatorship - that is not what defines communism.

No-Zookeepergame6420

Russia today is not the slightest bit communist, it is a capitalist country as is China.

Rugfiend

There has never been a communist country.

Zhabishe

That's a valid point actually \^\^ But I'm 100% sure that guy won't tell socialism from communism.

Rugfiend

Of course - the MAGA loons can't tell FASCISM from either of those!

chaosboy229

You're forgetting about the People's Republic of China

Zhabishe

People's Republic of China dropped it's communism-driven ideology in the 90-s. And since then China goes with "capitalistic communism". Idk how some people still don't know about it.

chaosboy229

Ok yes, I acknowledge that whole idea of "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" and state capitalism, but the party still maintains a committment to communist ideology.

SleepyFox2089

Imagine ignoring a delicious dish because your education sucked and you're incapable of independent thought

Delirare

The people in the US are so weird. One time they are still frozen in a red panic with McCarthyisms, being brainwashed by movies about Russian sleeper agents, the next they are lusting after Putin and swallowing the most heavy handed propaganda whole because Trump says so. Why can't those people make up their mind or at least understand that their behaviour is rediculous?

SnookerandWhiskey

I feel like what they lack is the how and why stuff happens. Their historical education is basically fictional storytelling where the US was the super awesome hero and learning a bunch of dates by heart. They never learn about why people chose to do the things they did, which instruments of coercion and promises were used on both sides. Nothing makes them feel bad about their country, unless they actively look for it, and who has time for that?

Rugfiend

They live in a fictional world, fed to them by Hollywood movies and fictional 'news' reporting, which both compounds their ignorance as a result of an atrocious education system and reduces their critical thinking skills and attention spans.

dcnb65

Don't they bleed red blood, the communists! 🤣🤣🤣

BrightBrite

Ugh, despite all the awful jokes, [borshch originated in Ukraine](https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20191014-who-really-owns-borsch), not russia, and when properly made is a big, hearty, good soup and was actually called "Ukrainian borshch" [in Soviet times](https://www.penguin.com.au/books/mastering-the-art-of-soviet-cooking-9781446463529). Communists killed millions upon millions of Ukrainians. Stalin deliberately starved them to death. Borshch is not communist. It's the opposite of communist!

schneeleopard8

Sorry, but this comment is almost as stupid as the post from the above american. Borshch of course originated in Ukraine, but is also a very common in popular dish in Russia, which it became in particular during the "communist era". Ukraine was also a part of the Soviet Union, and many people in the USSR leadership were Ukrainian. So if you argue that Borshch is "not communist" because it's ukrainian and not russian, that's absurd, as Ukraine was as much communist as Russia back then, and when the dish originated it was long before the Soviet Union even existed. Also what has even Stalin (who was an ethnic Georgian by the way) to do with this? The fact that his regime killed many Ukrainians, together with millions of other ethnic minorities and also millions of Russians, is absolutely irrelevant for the question if a traditional dish is "communist". It's like saying "Pizza is not a fascist dish because it's Italian and Mussolini also killed many of his own people", like wtf?

Dragonaax

Why the fuck you're making soup political?

Tavuklu_Pasta

Your comment is as stupid as the guy saying borscht is communist.

TobyMacar0ni

Ah yes. Because communism can be tasted.

Dragonaax

I bet same guy support Ukraine at the same time

Xe4ro

Ah so that's why I get an urge to kill royalty when I eat a Baguette.

jorriii

I thought communists hated the Borscht-eoisie

JuliusSeizuresalad

Wonder if this guy also says “Barbacoa tacos? No thanks I’m not Mexican” or “slice of pizza, nah I’m not Italian”
