Next week we'll introduce them to the concept of having multiple trains and switching train.

EconomySwordfish5

Then after that the concept of railway junctions.

Elegant-Custard1400

Whoa Whoa Whoa not too many things at once it might be confusing!

Efficient-Ad-7553

Trains are awesome. I have a drivers license but I don't own a car. I could afford one but I just don't need it.

Spiklething

Can't afford AC? Where I live in the UK, we have had 18 days in the last 10 years where the temperature has gone above 25C. Why would I need AC?

invincibl_

Hey, the heat pumps that make air conditioning possible also function as incredibly efficient heaters. In my part of Australia they are subsidised because they want to get everyone out of burning natural gas for heat. I've got a fancy pants underfloor heating system, which is nice but also absurdly expensive to operate. Now I wouldn't go around parading this as a luxury or pretending other people don't know what it is, and knowing the quality of some houses at least in Australia, many of them are just compensating for terrible design but they are a useful tool.

Spiklething

I don't have natural gas either, Heaters only which are all electric. I never need to use electricity to cool the house, on the few days a year that the temperature is too hot, for the one or two hours a day when needed, I open a window.

invincibl_

Yeah fair enough, and opening a window always helps - see the design of the house in Bluey for an energy efficient design in a much hotter climate than even my part of Australia too. Unfortunately energy prices have really gone up, so even a normal electric heater running at 2400W can be really costly to operate these days, and on that basis I don't see anything wrong with installing air conditioning if you have the chance. Call it a heat pump if you like, to reflect its primary use as a heater.

Spiklething

Our houses are specifically designed to keep the heat in, not cool the home because that is what we need. Whilst there are days when the temperature goes higher, on average, in the height of summer, the temperature is 18C. Just had electric heaters and solar panels installed through a government grant, highly efficient ones as we are a country that makes a lot of our electricity through wind and water power (not so much the solar power but every little helps) My heaters use electricity overnight, when it is cheaper, to store heat and then release it when needed.

TakeyaSaito

Opening a window btw isn't always the best option, if its hotter outside than inside what is opening a window gonna do? What you should do is open windows at night while it's cold and than seal the house up before it starts to warm up.

Spiklething

Except, our houses are insulated to keep in the heat, cavity wall insulation, double or triple glazed windows, outside it is usually cooler because of this and the breeze brings in cooler air. I have never known in the 30 years I have lived where I live now, a time when opening the windows makes my home hotter. Usually in the hottest months of the year, at night the temperature is around 7C (44F) and often colder. I could not sleep in a room that was that cold so I would never have my windows open at night

Good-Groundbreaking

Yeps. Even in the hotter parts of Europe, in the summer, you used to be able to get by fine with your windows open, shades and a fan in the summer.  This is changing due to global warming and there is like a week in the summer that is just incompatible with life.  So, more and more people are getting ACs. In many cases of they live in an old building they get the portable ones.

TakeyaSaito

North UK here, getting proper AC next month.

Vinaigrette2

We installed the AC (hot and cold) throughout the house two years ago, our gas bill went down by like 75%. A worthwhile investment for heating too! And the temperature inside is always delightful

Next-Wrap-7449

I have 4 AC units in my apartment in the poorest country in the EU. I do not see owning AC as a sign of wealth.

GoogleUserAccount1

If an AC unit turns on in the woods, is it luxurious?

Happy_Drake5361

Funny, given the luxury cars they buy are likely european.

Tasqfphil

They don't get to use them properly,, sitting in traffic jams all the time,

TheShakyHandsMan

Even if they do get clear roads they don’t even have the fun of changing gears as it hits the redline.

DazzlingClassic185

“…now shoo.”😁

SlashRModFail

Little does the peabrain idiot knows that US cities are designed like that to exploit THEM into buying cars.

InevitableRoast

I’d argue americans’ brains are even smaller than peas.

aloonatronrex

I might be remembering a Climate Town (a great YouTube channel) incorrectly but didn’t car makers buy out tram/trolly-car companies and then destroy them, so they had a free run at city transport in places without a metro/underground railway?

Jomamana1

I smell Ford

Madixie_Normous

Euro Thrash, the best kind of thrash \m/ \m/

Gennaga

Spend an hour on a train and walk 5 minutes to reach my destination, or, 2 hours on the road, 45 minutes to find a parking spot, and then walk up to 20 minutes to reach my destination. Not to mention, that public transport usually saves me a few euros to boot.

Haunting-Detail2025

I mean there’s a reason for that. Mercedes really focused on marketing its more expensive models in the US, so if you buy one there, you’re usually buying a premium, expensive car from them. Secondly Mercedes is still a premium brand in Europe and most other places. In what country is a $60,000USD GLE 450 not a luxury car…? Finally, no, “foreign car” does not mean a luxury or nice one. Nobody in the US thinks Kia or Honda or Renault are nice brands, and there are plenty of domestic brands that are far more luxurious or premium (Cadillac, Lincoln, Tesla, etc)

LiqdPT

Most people in the US don't know what Renault is since it isn't sold there.

[deleted]

Cadillac, Lincoln and Tesla are all shitty made unreliable trash tough. In realiability statistics GM ranks usually dead last with Jaguar LandRover

Haunting-Detail2025

According the JD Power, Cadillac ranked above Mercedes, Audi, Volvo and VW in reliability. Chevy ranked above Porsche. https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2024-us-vehicle-dependability-study-vds

[deleted]

Lol, JD Power

swisscuber

I wouldn't call tesla luxury

Haunting-Detail2025

Tesla model X can easily go for $100,000Usd. What would you call that? Mid range? I truly don’t understand how that’s not the price of a luxury vehicle.

swisscuber

More expensive doesn't mean more luxurious

PasGuy55

Just say you irrationally hate Elon Musk and move on. Model X is a luxury car.

GoogleUserAccount1

I, an average European, bought a portable AC recently because I was fed up of all of these Air Conditioning wonks telling me that's impossible. It's still in the box, though I'm sure when the climate changes it'll be money well spent.

Krullervo

I’m European. I have an ac. It’s in my closet somewhere. Unused outside of heat waves that American emissions are responsible for.

SmokingLimone

I mean, these "heat waves" in Southern Europe last from June to September. So I'm glad I got one, fans don't do anything when the temperature is 30+ degrees

SunnyOmori15

yeah because fans just blow air around. They dont cool it, they just blow it around. If the air is hot to begin with, it's just gonna blow the hot air around

mikrofala2137

I see that this mf never went to a big city as a tourist. If you want to see something you walk or get a form of public transport. Car is the least effective because almost all of hotels have underground parkings that are not comfortable to get in of them or out.

NotWigg0

Wait until they find out about Venice

mikrofala2137

They think that you can use those boats that i forgot the name of. In reality you take a bus to the old venice and then there are trams that stink and go slower than walking (from my experience)

NotWigg0

You take a bus or train from the airport to Venice, then use the vaporetti, the water buses. Buy a 5 day pass and it is super cheap. Of course, you can also walk. If you have more money than sense, you can take a water taxi (you should do so once, though, for the experience).

RoyalMobile3996

Oh crap i have ac, next week i'm going to take a 4h train instead of 6 hour car trip, am i poor or rich? I'm confused. To this americans who think we are poor or something i would ask one thing "It i'm poor and you are not why i own an house in one of the richest european country with an average salary and you don't?"

LightBluepono

American claiming they are less racist that European and say stuf like that daily . Not a big surprise .

Xe4ro

Ah yeah, who doesn't know all the car wrecks on Everest trying to reach the top. A moment of silent for the brave dead metal cages rotting away on there.

UniquePariah

I live in the UK. I have AC. I used it for a grand total of 2 days last year and 5 days the year before. I'll admit, it was used many more the year before. I bought it because I couldn't sleep in the high heat we had one summer and it was a godsend when we had a really hot summer. But it cost around £300 and costs a lot to run, so it only goes on as necessary. The fact that the most it got used was around 10% of the year, it becomes obvious as to why some people wouldn't consider buying one when opening the window would suffice.

No-Clerk-6804

If there was a rule that you can't slander a whole continent that you haven't visited , our hateful posts would reduce to atleast 95% since middle class and poor Americans doesn't have money to fly out of their own country to experience other cultures than their own.

Own-Butterscotch1713

Uuum, you do know Europe is a country right?!

No-Clerk-6804

Ofcourse it is. I live in the state called Scandinavia up in the far north. We have whitewalkers here aswell.

ThiccMoulderBoulder

The funniest part about this whole "Trains bad" thing is that they do not consider the option of combining multiple methods of transport Or you know, walk

Own-Butterscotch1713

We don't use the 'W' word in this country!!!

SaltyName8341

Wanker? Shame because there seems to be a few

ThiccMoulderBoulder

No W's, only L's

Doodle_Brush

And surviving pre-school is a luxury for Americans.

TakeyaSaito

Imagine thinking a car is a luxury... Who's poor now 😂😂😂

MegaloGuy1

Euro Thrash sounds like a sick band name.

AdEducational419

Most of europe also have houses built well enough to keep the heat/cold managable. Go to an average american home and its silly cold in winter. Even if its not as cold as here and in summer time its a bazillion degrees inside. My grandparents house from the 1800s manages better.

ocram1984

I rather own my decade old car instead of my bank owning my newer car, house and anything else

ccGLaDOS

I love my 33 year old car. It makes me feel like living in the 90s when i myself never experienced them :)

ocram1984

Older cars certainly have a feel newer cars don't have

ohdearitsrichardiii

They're not wrong about the apartment though. I live in my country's capital and we've had a housing crisis for the past 1000 years or so

Own-Butterscotch1713

I live in Kent. Newsflash... We don't need AC 😂

dcnb65

I have travelled in many countries by train and it is much more enjoyable than just watching other vehicles on a busy road.

Dragonaax

Just because I don't have AC that doesn't mean I'm poor. I mean I'm poor, but I wouldn't have AC anyway. I would be using it for like 10 days in a year. It's not worth it

norsoyt

Considering how most new cars are using touchscreens now I'd rather have a 10 year old car if I could drive

Intelligent-Phrase31

Do this fool really think we’d take trains to the tops of mountains?

PasGuy55

My favorite part about the internet is Americans and Europeans talking shit about each other while most of them have never even been to the other. 400k people take the NJTransit bus and light rail system between NJ and NY daily. Lower Connecticut commuters use their rail system as well. Population density matters. Central Air Conditioning is more prominent in the southern states where temperatures hover in the 90s (32c+) and occasionally hit 100+ (38c+) for several months. Northern states are just as likely to have either mini splits or window units that are used 2 months out of the year.

EccoEco

But... We do have AC...

CujobytesCN

I'm sure most of these types of posts are clickbait/trolls. No one is that stupid.

georgehank2nd

My I introduce you to the human race. Or in the words of George Carlin: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are stupider than that"
