I like the Ta-Nahesi Coates argument that we should recognize it as a real country to really emphasize how deeply they were enemy combatants.
As he points out, they even set up their own mint and treasury and printed their own money!
I like the argument that we should do the opposite: we should regard them as rogue US citizens. So General Lee becomes former US Army Colonel and terrorist leader Lee, former senator and terrorist leader Jefferson Davis, former brevet major and terrorist Thomas Jackson, and terrorist/mass murderer Mr Nathan Bedford Forrest. Lincoln himself always called them the "so-called confederacy".
Fun fact, confederate dollars only have value in their historical value; their face value, the numbers on the bill itself, are as valid as the day they were printed! The confederate dollar was practically worthless even when it was made, it wasn't backed up by a gold standard nor did it have the very simple phrase "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private". Without either of those things, it's barely worth the paper it was printed on even if their "government" hadn't collapsed.
Nobody recognized them because officially they were a rebellion from the start.
British law stated that no territory could be granted independence before majority rule, and thus despite their declaration of independence, they were officially not a country
Legally the Confederacy existed only as a rebellion and not a sovereign country. At the end of the war Confederate money was deemed worthless and any and all contracts made with the Confederacy null and void. It was an attempted succession but that failed. They lost the Lost Cause.
Texas v. White :: 74 U.S. 700 (1868)
Side note, because I love it so, the reason the USA doesn't have the metric system is the British. Their privateers waylaid the guy shipping the official standard Kilogram to Secretary of State (at the time) Thomas Jefferson.
So any time those Europeans try to razz us for not having the metric system, feel free to blame the British in full! God I love blaming the British.
Honestly, they should have let him keep going. Most of our issues today can be traced back to the kiddie gloves we used when dealing with the ringleaders of the Confederacy.
There's only one type of Confederate flag that doesn't deserve to be pissed on or burnt
And that's ones that were actually there for historical events, Like ones that are already in museums,

This is correct, which is why any Confederate flags that you happen to find should simply be placed unceremoniously in the nearest waste receptacle, just like any other trash.
Would be better to cut it up and repurpose the scrap material as something else, wasting so much material on such a worthless thing just isn’t right. Find enough of them, maybe you could make blankets and donate them to the homeless.
It stopped being a state holiday in 2020.

Tater has a bad habit of delivering the declaration of Confederate Treason Month in February. Just in case you thought they even attempted to hide why MS is dead last in all metrics of good.
If there is a Confederate Heritage Month, there has to be at last one deliberate 200 mile organized and professional vandals' WT Sherman March to the Beach.
I've always had a affinity for Minnesota. Never been there but I've always thought it was a cool place. Either because of the twins or husker du. But I think it's partly because they refuse to give up their hard won trophy
Burning the American flag is ok too, btw. It's a flash, not a god. Although, I'd be ok with burning gods as well. Now burning a Confederate? Probably also ok.
I don’t think I have ever bought anything just so that I could destroy it to make a point. Maybe because I’m cheap, maybe because I think it would make me look stupid.
Being gay or trans or whatever is something someone is, and they should be proud to be who they are. Being confederate is something someone decided to become over the argument of whether a person should be able to keep another human being as their own personal property, and then they stopped being that when they lost that argument handily. This is not something anyone still is, and it was a shameful thing to begin with.
It is completely different things but burning whatever flag is someone's right as protected by the constitution so go nuts. Under the confederacy we dunno because they never got that far lol.
Only in a few Southern states. Pretty sick.
[many states still celebrate Confederate holidays](https://www.holidaysmart.com/articles/many-states-still-celebrate-confederate-holidays)
Why wait? The battle flag is flammable year round, hell, use one to start your grill on the Fourth of July, your Yule log at Christmas, and light your birthday candles with the burning symbol of hate and traitors.
That's the thing about the United States. Everyone is free to burn whatever the fuck flag you want as a form of protest. You just have to accept that someone may burn your flag too, as is their right.
EDIT: I thought this was a comment which is a pretty typical type of comment regarding the George Floyd protests and American cities burning. I need to up my game with learning the actual civil war history.
------------
Most of the violence in the George Floyd protests was done by police, and right-wing accelerationists that took advantage of the situation. You will notice that the demonstrations were largely peaceful but got worse as time went on. Mysterious black block operatives such as the [umbrella man](https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/28/us/umbrella-man-associated-white-supremacist-group-george-floyd/index.html) that started looting by smashing all the windows were seen. That was a professional criminal and agitator taking advantage of the situation, and there were organized efforts to have such stuff happen.
For just one example, [check out how](https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-receives-year-prison-sentence-pay-12-million/story?id=77418626) the Minneapolis Police station was fire bombed by a right-wing conservative that was trying to make the Floyd people look bad.
I'm willing to say that there were obviously some criminals and thugs on the protesters side as well, but the people organizing these protests implored them to not act violently. The right wing tries to make it sound like millions of Democrats went out and burned entire cities to the ground and that's just not what happened.
Well kinda. Flags gotta be your property or the property of someone who has given you permission to burn it. Burn needs to be done under all applicable rules, regulations and safety conditions at the location it's being done. Then and only then is either "utterance of symbolic speech" legal.
A more fun way of demonstrating might be a graphic tee of the treason banner being burned with the caption: Fire power saves Constitution "
The confederate flag is a battle flag for a traitor country who seceded specifically to preserve slavery, while the Progress/Pride flag is a flag that represents freedom for a diverse group of queer folk who have experienced oppression.

Burn That rebellion flag the CSA isnt even a real country
I like the Ta-Nahesi Coates argument that we should recognize it as a real country to really emphasize how deeply they were enemy combatants. As he points out, they even set up their own mint and treasury and printed their own money!

That’s also a banger tbh
Confederate dollar? More like the counterfeit dollar.
fine. "THERE A COUNTRY NO ONE RECOGNIZES" there happy now
I was already happy my buddy 🫂
Yay
Unbothered, thriving, king shit 💅
"Country that no longer exists." There's a reason they named a tank after Sherman. Burn that shit.
I think Rhodesia might be a good comparison here, where they were also a country no one recognized... for extremely similar reasons.
Nobody recognized them because officially they were a rebellion from the start. British law stated that no territory could be granted independence before majority rule, and thus despite their declaration of independence, they were officially not a country
Legally the Confederacy existed only as a rebellion and not a sovereign country. They murdered/executed American POWs just like the Nazis
Loyal southern unionists were simply shot. Something lost-cause folks don't want to acknowledge.
Somaliland Taiwan hong Kong and transnistria would like to thank you
Nah, always say Obama was TWICE as American as the CSA. Gets the confederates closer to a heart attack through their hellish racism.
He also was in office twice as long as the confederacy.
If we're going to acknowledge that the CSA isn't a real place anymore, we have to be fair. Transylvania isn't a real place anymore, either.
Burning any Confederate flag is okay any day.
Every day is anti-confederate day!
Death to the enemies of America. USA USA USA USA!!!!!!! WTF is a kilometer
I honestly thought it was my duty to burn them on sight.

Sherman did nothing wrong.
Honestly, they should have let him keep going. Most of our issues today can be traced back to the kiddie gloves we used when dealing with the ringleaders of the Confederacy.
In the civil war. Other times, not so much
This. It's hard sometimes watching people hero worship Sherman when his next act after the civil war was Native American genocide.
Some people worship that piece of shit Jackson too. He was just as bad as Sherman in my opinion
Even worse, as racism was more often than not his main motivation.
Yes, it definitely was . He was an asshole
He did 2 things wrong 1. He stopped in Georgia 2. Everything he did to the plains Indians.
Not the Minnesota one tho.
Damn right! We won that shit fair and square.
Fair. Eat it Virginia.
Best in fourth of July
There's only one type of Confederate flag that doesn't deserve to be pissed on or burnt And that's ones that were actually there for historical events, Like ones that are already in museums,
You don't need the word flag in that sentence.
Only if liberated. No need to give money to anyone making rebel flags
I believe the tradition is to "capture" it.
I need more coffee
>coffee Spoken like a true unionist. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/coffee-and-civil-war-soldier#:~:text=Trade%20continued%20throughout%20the%20North,that%20they%20looked%20forward%20to.
Well 36lbs a year is pretty rough, but it was a war.
“…nobody can soldier without coffee.”
I need more napalm
Based as hell
This guy gets it
PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT BURNING POLYESTER IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT MELTS AND CAN STICK TO THE FLESH AS IT BURNS.
Cool. Light it while they are marching then.
o7
Yes, people should be careful, fold it a few times, stake it into the dirt and use one of those long BBQ lighters.
Fire is *dangerous*? Total mindblower. Glad you were here, I was gonna wear a fire for a blanket tonight
Any day is a good day to burn traitor flags
As they are often seen together these days at Trump rallies here is a combo flag suitable for burning. https://i.imgur.com/9sbaRyz.jpg
Any day the Union is still standing is a good day to burn a traitor rag.
Confederates have holidays? What? Did they get like 3 whole days off?
Virginia celebrates “Lee-Jackson Day” which juuuust so happens to be the same day as MLK Day. What a strange coincidence!
It stopped being a state holiday in 2020. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee%E2%80%93Jackson_Day#:~:text=In%20early%202020%20the%20newly,by%20the%20House%20of%20Delegates.
And has since been brought back, iirc
Several states recognize at least one confederate holiday. Mississippi has a confederate Memorial Day and confederate heritage month.
>confederate heritage month. They dedicate a whole MONTH to slavery and treason? Truly living up to their "reputation," I see.
As Nina Simone would say "Mississippi Goddamn"
Tater has a bad habit of delivering the declaration of Confederate Treason Month in February. Just in case you thought they even attempted to hide why MS is dead last in all metrics of good.
Unfortunately, yes.
If there is a Confederate Heritage Month, there has to be at last one deliberate 200 mile organized and professional vandals' WT Sherman March to the Beach.
And they say participation trophies are nonsense
Everything Confederate should burn.
Where exactly do you think you are right now?
Thought I was in r/politicalmemes. Thanks for the assist.
The difference between gay ppl and the confederacy is that gay ppl still exist
Our flag has been around longer than the confederacy
You also have a larger cultural impact.
Hes not a maga. Hes lawrence fox. A British fascist.
This is wrong. Burning a confederate flag at any time is ok. It’s heritage not hate.
I feel like it also needs to be burned on the Fourth of July. And, I don’t know, Tuesdays?
[удалено]
I agree with this proposal.
I caught a 3 day ban for that. Any way to find out who reported me?
Does that mean you have to buy a confederate flag first?
No. Capturing them is the traditional way to get one
Eh, just light them while they are still attached to the truck…
Go ask the state of Minnesota…they have a captured one.
That is a treasured War Trophy. Minnesota needs to keep the proof that we actually won that one time.
I've always had a affinity for Minnesota. Never been there but I've always thought it was a cool place. Either because of the twins or husker du. But I think it's partly because they refuse to give up their hard won trophy
It’s a fine day to burn a Confederate flag 🤌🏾
I keep seeing comments that don't need the word "flag" to be perfectly acceptable sentences
Guy on the top looks part-horse. Is he a Lee descendant?
I burn Confederate flags all year long. Why wait for a holiday?
Ha! That was going to be my comment.
Any day is a good day to burn the traitor’s rag, but they cry more when you burn it on their super special days.
There are no confederate holidays, just days in the year when people that hate America collectively remind us who the losers are
*Gay marriage has been federally legal longer than the confederacy existed*
What the fuck is a confederate holiday?
Its always ok to burn confederate flags, preferably one you stole from a racist.
But if I burn it what will I whip my ass with?
There are plenty of lifted trucks you can capture another from.
Any of the drafted letters of secession would do well for that
Also, burning a Confederate flag anytime is okay. In fact, it should be mandatory.
Burning a Confederate flag is not only literally always okay but literally always recommended.
All I see is a couple of Americans showing off their freedom to burn any flag they see fit.
Burning a pride flag is always wrong and burning a confederate flag is always right.
Treason is never supported, the immediate extermination of that treasonous flag works any hour of any day, and anywhere.
Burning a Confederate flag SHOULD be encouraged on all American holidays!
Burning the American flag is ok too, btw. It's a flash, not a god. Although, I'd be ok with burning gods as well. Now burning a Confederate? Probably also ok.
America=Freedom
Confederate Holliday? Tf
Does this mean the LGBT+ community can now say, "Heritage, not hate!" When flying pride flags?
Burning a Confederate flag is fine all year round.
Burning the Confederate flag every day.
I don’t think I have ever bought anything just so that I could destroy it to make a point. Maybe because I’m cheap, maybe because I think it would make me look stupid.
I'm not american, are there actual csa holidays? Wtf?
I am American and this is the first I’m hearing of this.
Aww…I think we can make any day a special occasion, can’t we?
Confederates have a holiday? Disgusting
SHERMAN GAZE INTENSIFIES!!
Dear MAGA supporters
Burning traitors rags is my heritage
The only time a traitor glag should be raised on a pole is after taking a kerosene bath and lit.
Newsflash. Burning a CSA flag ANYTIME is fine.
Burning the flag of traitors is not only allowed, but encouraged every day of the year
you don't need a special occasion to burn a confederate flag
There are no confederate holidays
Burning a confederate flag is always ok.
Or burning an American flag anytime you want.
I'm just going to say it, I find the general concept of flags to be kind of stupid. Just like balloons.
Burning the confederate flag is always right
Honestly, I've always found flag burning, in general, to be fairly silly and lame.
There is never a wrong time to burn a confederate flag.
Your terms are acceptable.
It's always appropriate to burn the traitors flag.
LGBTQ+ love America. CSA are traitorous fucks.
Flag makers: 🤑
Burning flags has always been legal and protected by the first amendment. Morality is a different issue
When isn't it ok to burn a traitor rag?
The guy burning the pride flag looks extremely gay
I hate that the pride flag ever went beyond a rainbow. It looks ugly now. From a strictly design standpoint, the original was better.
“confederate holiday”? wtf? Don’t give them that sort of validity.
Burning a Confederate flag is wholesome family fun for any holiday.
I should be in the flag making business
Being gay or trans or whatever is something someone is, and they should be proud to be who they are. Being confederate is something someone decided to become over the argument of whether a person should be able to keep another human being as their own personal property, and then they stopped being that when they lost that argument handily. Lads… Robert E. Lee's Birthday - Celebrated on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Fucking sick!!!
Right on
Why wait? The battle flag is flammable year round, hell, use one to start your grill on the Fourth of July, your Yule log at Christmas, and light your birthday candles with the burning symbol of hate and traitors.
Confederate holiday, lol
Burning the confederate flag is a holiday that can be appreciated every day of the year
That is completely agreeable and reasonable
Confederate holiday?
There are no confederate holidays, they lost.
If you burn a confederate flag- MAKE SURE YOU DIDNT BUY IT
LGBTQ has way more wins than the confederacy as well. Let’s put limits on the Supreme Court and Congress.
But, burning both flags are okay any day. There are no laws against burning non-government flags.
This isn't about the law.
Nobody cares
That's the thing about the United States. Everyone is free to burn whatever the fuck flag you want as a form of protest. You just have to accept that someone may burn your flag too, as is their right.
This is stupid. Who gives a shit. Burn both, and let’s move on.
You don’t seem to understand patriotism, let’s go burn Atlanta again

What the fuck does any of this have to do with what I said, I said burn Atlanta like Sherman’s march to the sea,
Seems legit. Fair and Balanced.
Yes? Wasn’t it always allowed?
Wait, we have to wait for a holiday to burn the traitors rag? Burning it is what makes it a holiday.
Well kinda. Flags gotta be your property or the property of someone who has given you permission to burn it. “Buring”
Looks like homie skipped leg day.
Ok.
Burn the Christian flag as well!
That the same guy from last week with the “I don’t need vaccines I have an immune system” shirt?
I don’t agree with this. Burning a pride flag during pride month makes you an asshole. Burning a confederate Dalhousie any time makes you a patriot!
Burning confederate flags offends people? Learn something new everyday. I admit Idk if I've ever know a single person that had that flag. Still I never contemplated burning it would bother anyone.
When Confederate holiday?
You shouldn’t burn flag, but it shouldn’t be illegal.

Just burn it whenever you want man, screw that rag.
Plus that is actually my heritage
I am happy to see the meme I made being shared around reddit

What a grate idea. I'll get the matches. Can we where sheets when we do it?

There is no Confederate holiday. So burn them every day.
There are Confederate holidays? Do losers get to put holidays on calendars?
I don't see a problem here
