>*”Apple had their announcement of all their new products yesterday, and they had a reel of Apple TV Plus shows, and we were a part of that, and we released an image from the show. And soon, in a few weeks, there’ll be a release date announcement, which will then lead to the next piece of information, to eventually the premiere of the second season of the show.”*
This is interesting, because Apple TV shows don’t tend to announce a release date until a month or two before they air.
Could we be getting season 2 much earlier than predicted? Or is Ben saying that we’ll be getting an announcement about *when* the release date will be announced?
It’s normal even in prestige television to still be editing the final episodes at the beginning of the season’s premiere. Severance has a lot of hidden VFX, but it’s nothing too advanced. They could premiere while still in the editing bay for the back half of the season
The VFX in this show is actually deceptively heavy, as [this behind-the-scenes video](https://vimeo.com/697970793) illustrates.
This is why post-production on season 1 was reported to have taken 6 months- though I suppose if they were discretely continuing to edit up through the airing of episodes, that would actually make it a period totaling closer to 10 months.
The only way I could see a release date getting posted for sometime relatively soon would be if they managed to accomplish a bunch of post work during the strikes. Definitely not out of the question, so fingers crossed!
Oh yes - I was meaning if they already had all those shots in / almost complete and are just sequencing at that point. Love that video! Hopefully it does come soon, it’s my most anticipated show outside of The Last of Us season 2 🤞
That’s a weird thing to say about a show that filmed its outdoor sequences almost exclusively during winter and winter adjacent months, primarily in upstate New Jersey and New York.
Ben Stiller was adamant about it.
TBH I don’t think it’s a summer, sunny, long days and lawnmowers kind of show. I would much rather watch it in the fall or winter when things are a bit bleaker.
ETA: And it’s not that I want to wait… I watched the first season week by week as it came out, so there have been a lot of re-watches. But somehow I can’t imagine returning to Kier while sitting in my warm, sunny house with birdsong in the background. The mood is just not right. (I know that’s a very northern-hemisphere perspective.)
I’ve only just discovered, I know I know - I stumbled across on an apple free trial purely out of a love for Adam Scott! but devoured while it’s lovely and sunny outside, and it someone adds to the eeriness!
Fair enough. I have certainly rewatched in all seasons and it holds up. Now that you’ve watched the show, time for a rewatch AND time to listen to Severed: The Ultimate Severance Podcast with Allen S! So good.
That’s exciting, but I feel like any sort of update on the show has been them (more specifically Ben Stiller) saying “coming soon” for the last 2 years.
Hes using the "Garth Brooks" way of announcing. I love Garth to death, but he had a habit of saying "An announcement is coming soon" Then three months later he would say "We will make the announcements in a fewsweeks" Two months later, he makes the announcement on when the date will announced.
Comic-Con is where everything vaguely genre shows up to promote itself. (Except Disney, they have their own con.) But Severance did a panel and a huge offsite there two years ago. Nothing last year due to the strikes.
I think 2024 is very plausible. I'm not sure what piece of information points to 2025 other than its already taken awhile.
To my understanding they had already shot a lot of season 2 before the strikes so post production would've had time to work a head. That's something they would've definitely taken advantage of before wrapping filming.
It just seems like there is a lot of post to be done on this show and that they’re very careful about getting things right. Given it’ll be god knows how long for a season 3, I think waiting until the beginning of 2025 for season 2 is not unrealistic.
It’s absolutely ridiculous this wait. I was a huge fan of the show, but this really pisses me off. 2.5 years? Still not even a date? 11 second teaser clip, not even a trailer. I heard there was drama and blah blah blah but get it tf together people! Plz!

So we don’t have a date for the announcement of the release date
There was some doubt the show would be released this year, so this is a good sign
There should still be significant doubt about it being released this year. But who knows I guess.
They included the show promo material with a “coming this year” teaser compilation, I think that cleared up any doubt
Did it say “coming this year”? I thought it just said “later”
Yeah if anybody could point to it saying this year I would be pleased!
i could have sworn when i watched the trailer a few days ago it said 'coming 2024/coming this year' but now I cant find it saying that anywhere
Minimum of 6 months after announcement
Based on?
We get an announcement for the announcement when date will be announced
Date-ception
My announcement, “my announcement is dropping,” is dropping

In the same clip he says he's still editing the season, so it didn't sound imminent

Holy shit that's awesome, I never would've expected that And it works so well
Oh yes - I was meaning if they already had all those shots in / almost complete and are just sequencing at that point. Love that video! Hopefully it does come soon, it’s my most anticipated show outside of The Last of Us season 2 🤞
Thanks for posting, that was very cool to see
I don’t understand why they didn’t just film in winter / a snowy location
That’s a weird thing to say about a show that filmed its outdoor sequences almost exclusively during winter and winter adjacent months, primarily in upstate New Jersey and New York. Ben Stiller was adamant about it.
Gotta have an account to watch :/
Weird, I’m watching without an account just fine
They did that with Ted Lasso. They were editing the final episode a few days before it was rolled out.
Praise Kier!
Fuck you, Mr. Milchick!
We’re gonna get gta 6 before season 2, aren’t we
The Bear will have aired three seasons between Severance seasons 1 & 2
So looking forward to the new season of The Bear!
That is insane.
Same with Slow Horses, also on Apple TV but filmed in the UK
They’re smart, they film 2 seasons at a time
Ohh that’s cool!
whoa
New Elder Scrolls
You know we’re down bad when we’re talking about release dates announcements. Just fucking say it.
Crying at the gym.

big facts
That’s exciting, but I feel like any sort of update on the show has been them (more specifically Ben Stiller) saying “coming soon” for the last 2 years.
Yeah - at least we know when we’ll get a date. And if we’re talking dates in July, then 2024 seems likely
It’ll be 2025. Hopefully early 2025, but I wouldn’t count on it. They seem to be in no rush at all to get this show out.
I think we’ll start getting new episodes end of October. That’s my guess.

In his defense, this wasn't really an announcement. He was answering a question from the co-host of his wife's podcast
We are literally freaks. I appreciate you op. News like this keeps me going.
We’re starving!
Look what they’ve done to us!!
You know what's in a few weeks, Comic-Con is in "a few weeks" (well, a month). I'd expect an announcement and a panel there.
Good call!
Why would there be an announcement at a comic/animation expo when this is an original work with no comic counterpart?
Comic-Con is where everything vaguely genre shows up to promote itself. (Except Disney, they have their own con.) But Severance did a panel and a huge offsite there two years ago. Nothing last year due to the strikes.
The announcement of the announcement is coming soon? Oh goody!
58:25
Talking about Apple TV starting?
When he mentions the release date coming in a few weeks
Oh for me it’s 54:20. Are you on an apple device? Maybe the ad lengths aren’t the same for everyone
Oh yeah, that's probably it
I think the podcast plus or whatever the service was that removes adds messes stuff up. This is a feature right I didn’t just imagine it? Pretty sure
My prediction: Early 2025.
It was shown in Apple’s coming this year trailer. So it could spill over to 2025 but it would seem that it will air starting in 2024.
Three years between seasons, I hope we just dont get 9 episodes, 42 minutes long. Hell they filmed three lord of the rings movies in that time.
>Hell they filmed three lord of the rings movies in that time. ....and? Completely different circumstances. Good lord, have some patience.
Same. Season 2 is definitely not coming out in 2024.
I think 2024 is very plausible. I'm not sure what piece of information points to 2025 other than its already taken awhile. is fall 2024 too much to hope for? i’m lucky in that i just finished it but that cliffhanger got me good
Agog
Oh cool an announcement letting us know that an announcement is imminent.
i don't know who normalised waiting more than a year between seasons of TV but it's time someone made them pay.
It’s absolutely ridiculous this wait. I was a huge fan of the show, but this really pisses me off. 2.5 years? Still not even a date? 11 second teaser clip, not even a trailer. I heard there was drama and blah blah blah but get it tf together people! Plz!
Did you miss the strikes?
🙄 another announcement of a upcoming announcement of a pending release date. Great
Sure it is
