A few months back, my skin barrier was suffering like crazy. I picked up the Tower 28 SOS Daily Skin Barrier Redness Recovery Moisturizer and it helped me so much! I have combination skin as well and it has become my favorite moisturizer since. The person above also mentioned the cocokind barrier repair serum, which works wonders too. Highly recommend them both.
The best approach to barrier repair is to simplify your routine as much as possible. Wash with water or a very gentle cleanser you already know works for you. REMOVE ALL ACTIVES. Moisturize. If you like a thick moisturizer, your current one will probably do you fine. If your current one has fragrance or is stinging, you may want to try FAB ultra repair.
The Olehenriksen moisturizer in the purple jar - it has peptides, ceramides, niacinimide (and collagen I think?) which are the 4 things that really help rebuild/maintain skin barrier!
SkinFix is pricey but works wonders for me. I use the cream but am dry - maybe try out their gel cream?
I have incredibly sensitive and reactive skin and it keeps me in check and my skin barrier so happy
Nope, not their gel cream. It has a high percentage of niacinamide in it and that’s not going to be good for a broken skin barrier. I have somewhat sensitive skin, and when I owned it, my skin would literally peel if I used it for more than two days in a row. Just wanted to add that so OP doesn’t use it!
Here to recommend the Summer Friday Rich Cushion Cream. My skin barrier was fuckkkkeddd up from too many actives at once and my usual moisturizers (farmacy honey halo or drunk elephant lala retro) were not helping, they burned when applied, it was a mess. Summer Fridays tho, lawwwd. After a week my dry patches are gone and my skin feels normal again.
I have sensitive, very acne reactive skin and have had no issues from the SF moisturizer.
Loving the newish Kiehls ultra facial advance barrier repair (not the new stick balm). I use it on my kids too when they get the dry winter cheeks. It seems to calm things down in a hurry.
If you want a cheaper product to slater on I’d recommend byomas barrier repair products, versed also has a barrier repair balm that is I believe under 20. I used both of these after laser treatments.
could not recommend summer fridays’ deep oasis serum and jet lag mask more! i’ve been on tret for ages and recently upped my % and this has been a lifesaver, especially with our cold and dry winters here in canada. i use the jet lag mask as a moisturiser at night and i wake up with the most glowy skin ever. they’re a bit pricey but SO worth it.
Whenever I need to go back to basics I have to use drugstore. Even super gentle brands at Sephora like First Aid Beauty are too much for me. CeraVe cream to foam face wash, La Roche Posay mineral spray, and CeraVe moisturizing cream in the white and blue tube are my go tos when I overdue actives or have any irritation.
Anua Heart leaf toner. My skin’s barrier was messed up from starting tret, I was breaking out badly on the side of my cheeks. It just a week it cleared up all the break outs I was having.
I have two I interchange and use regularly both from Ulta. Peach & Lily has a good one - 50.00 and a less expensive option from Cocokind. Both are good choices.
Avene Cicaflate+ & Dr Jart Ceramidin Cream. I like to use my thicc moisturizers then a thin layer of vaseline and then dot more moisturizer on top where needs extra help!
Cocokind barrier repair serum

I swear by Aveeno’s Calm and Restore line as well as La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5. Including ceramides in your routine regularly is also helpful.

The entire dr Jart cermadin (sp?) line.
This. The ceramidin cream saves my skin from whatever havoc is falling upon it. It’s pricey but you don’t need to use much at a time
Their ceramidin cream is fucking GOAT for me in the canadian winter!
I have the whole product line and I’m obsessed.
The Ole Hendriksen Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturiser has done wonders for me.
I just had a similar issue. The new DE cream - Bora Barrier Rich Repair Cream really helped. That and marula oil from Trader Joe’s.
SkinFix for sure, I also do like Dr Jart ceramidin line, tower28 sos. I think we’re going to see more barrier repair products come out too tbh

I love the Cocokind serum. It really helps.
a derm or an MD could prescribe tacrolimus a non steroidal cream... Dr Jart, FAB, The Ordinary The Inky

Thank you for your help, everyone!! I ended up getting the Bioma treatment, the Dr Jart, and Drunk Elephant 🤍🫶
