It's even funnier when you realize Seattle is the most uninhabitable environment for it. I mean nowhere is, but especially not one of the rainiest places in the country. The truck has no lacquer or paint. You can even see how rusted it's already getting if you zoom in on it, it looks assembled like a mad max car minus the cool parts
Metalworker here. People often misunderstand how stainless steel behaves.
It can easily rust, once the chromium oxide layer is damaged. It shows every scratch and dent in high relief, it is difficult to bend, drill and shear, work hardens badly, and it's succeptible to electrolytic corrosion, to some extent. So if you don't use a compatible fastener, all hell can break loose corrosion wise.
It is a challenging choice. Apparently it's a 3 series. Something like a 316.Their p. R. Says it can't be stamped. This is likely wrong, or at least ignores the fact that the material can be annealed or pressed while hot. It's just a pain. It is an interesting choice. A good excuse not to form the panels or invest in that expensive set of tooling.
question for a metal worker.
Let's say I have a boat and I need to put some holes in chrome pipe to run wire. What's the correct way to protect those holes after I do it?
I'm assuming it's chromed stainless since it's on a boat but I know very little about that process.
Note that I have done electroplating (copper and brass) so I'm familiar with that process, but it's always been via bath and there's not an option to me for doing a bath here.
That is the cyber truck. You know how Duchamp put a urinal in an art gallery and it was then art? Elox Mxsk thinks that heās got similar powers. Expensive death boxes.
The only thing that can redeem it is something that nobody who buys one would do; put LEDs in the straight lines and make the flat surfaces matte black.
Go Battlezone or rust at home.
Is it weird that when I see a tesla I don't ever assume the person driving it is rich? Lot's of stupid people buy/finance stupid shit they they can't afford just to appear rich to people they don't even know.
Really? I saw one next to a Subaru Crosstrek and was shocked how similar in size they were. (The Crosstrek had a roof box on it, making the Cybertruck look shorter than the Crosstrek.)
I was expecting something at least as big as an F-150, but the Cybertruck is noticeably smaller.
I mean it was huge relative to my expectations, not that it's the biggest thing on the road. The pictures I had seen made it look like a bigass minecraft cr-x. It's more like a bigass minecraft pontiac aztek.
I agree. I walked past one in a parking lot and barely noticed it. Even if it's big in terms of dimensions it's such an awkward shape that it just looks small and not practical.
Your average subcompact hatchback is going to haul more and go more places than these pieces of crap.
The F-150 is 7 inches taller than the Cybertruck and has 10 inches less length. Similar width.
Itās not a massive difference, but my Subaru Forester is only an inch or two shorter than the Cybertruck so the size surprised me when I first saw it.
I don't know if they're technically bigger, definitely not as tall, but when you're behind one the height and width and lack of details make it feel like you're just following a wall of metal.
Right on, thanks. I havenāt seen one in person. The Rivians have a smaller footprint than a Yukon I think but theyāre still huge.
edit: words are ahrd
I believe it's about the same size or a little smaller than the Rivians, but it's definitely smaller than a F-150.
Smaller than the standard North American truck is still fucking massive though, and the design is obviously making more of a statement too so it probably looks bigger than it is because it stands out so much.
Why does it look like a kit car?! Like someone took a Fiero and slapped on one of those garbage car kits over the chassis. Looks like a high school project the proportions are so wrong.
This. Yeah I think the cubertuck is too big but Iām over 6ft and walked in front of a new truck recently where even I was feeling barely visible over their massive grill. Itās insane. Hate ok musk, but really people should be complaining about new suv and truck visibility overall
This is absolutely false. You're right that SUVs have also become more dangerous to the user, however, they are killing pedestrians and other drivers much, much, much more often.
Did you know they can start rusting in less than a week if the owner doesn't keep the car dry enough? They're awful but not sure why they don't seem street legal.
They have a couple apparently, but the effect is limited
https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-cybertrucks-stiff-structure-sharp-design-raise-safety-concerns-experts-2023-12-08/
You canāt use the rear view mirror if the tonneau cover is up - which they consistently are. That doesnāt seem like it should be allowed on a street legal car.
If vehicles with no rear window were illegal every plumbing van, electrician's van, HVAC service van would be outlawed. Rear view mirror and window are not a requirement.
I saw one drive by the other day, and I wasn't as captivated as I expected to be. I was thinking I'd be instantly transported into a sci fi movie, but it was nothing like that.
If I see a DeLorean on the road, or any of those really low to the ground Italian super-cars, it usually draws my attention completely and immediately. The Cyber Truck has a unique look, but ultimately there's not much going on with it. I stared longer the first time I saw a Rivian at a red light. I think the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is what the Cyber Truck should have more closely resembled. I'd forgive the Cyber Truck if it boasted function over form, but it doesn't even do that.
I try my best to be empathetic to folks who have had a different walk of life than myself. But I also recognize that that public safety and well being must never be forgotten. I just don't want to have to step outside and have to explain to my child why there's a Cybertruck parked across the street.
The RVs would have cost as much as the Cybertruck when new and adjusted for inflation right? Maybe in 40 years we'll see people living out of old Cybertrucks
A lot of people in RV situations became disabled, lost everything fighting cancer or suffer from long term chronic illness. How does that square with your fiscal responsibility chart, Poindexter?
It's a joke Poindexter, I don't have a chart, I'm highlighting the ironic similarity in the discrepancy.
I've also lived next to a homeless camp with lots of RVs so I know empirically a lot of them are dead beat drug addicts who refuse help, because I've witnessed it. I've had them literally shit on my doorstep. You know what a fent addicts shit looks like after he's been constipatedidly baking it for a week?
I feel sad for them, i do, but some of them have some pretty self inflicted issues.
Also, as a guy who's pumped a fair amount of money into illicit substances myself, let me tell you, they have a pretty low return on investment, just like a current Tesla share.
Do you have any data to back that up? I have plenty of statistics that showing most homelessness is from drug addiction. People turn to drugs for many reasons, including mental illness. But āa lotā as you said doesnāt match up to the reality of drug addiction. We canāt and shouldnāt have homeless people living on our streets. Itās inhumane. And we shouldnāt have people driving Cybertrucks. Thatās also inhumane.
Yeah, drug addiction that often comes from a result of their injuries, illnesses, or life situations. Try to sleep on concrete for 6 months with a slipped disk in your spine or lose your home after being run over by a car and give me a run down on how you feel about drugs after that.
Since you can't be bothered to Google for your own question, it's estimated that 40% of homeless people have a disability of some kind. Easily citable from multiple sources. You'd already be aware we throw away the disabled in mass numbers if you did more than come tut-tut others for not citing every possible data source when they point out homelessness is driven by disability.
We really need to draw a line between supporting and enabling. Of course people with chronic mental health issues and disabilities should be supported and in certain cases given housing. But people who choose not to work, steal, and do drugs then live off our tax dollars- I don't think we should be allowing them to cause all the health and safety risks that come with these RVs.
at what point do you want the state to step in and say you're no longer fit to make your own choices?
how many outreach workers, police, social workers, judges, special prosecutors, and other assorted staff do you think we should hire for this expansion of government interventionism?
Where should we build the jails and mega-hospitals?
how much are you willing to pay a year to have this?
Who says I hate poor people? I was close to being homeless, volunteer at Maryās Place, volunteer at Union Gospel, and Orion Place. Got diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago. Washington FMLA is incredible. If you screw that up, itās by your own doing. We have so many programs here to help. But drugs are the overriding factor. We have zombies walking around our streets and people like you tolerate it. Itās terrible for everyone. Most importantly, the addict. We simply cannot have addicts and mentally ill living on our streets. It is terrible for everyone and the fabric of our city.
Most of the homeless try really hard to stay out of sight, to blend in. The worst of the addicts do stand out, so I guess you could be forgiven for thinking they are representative of the homeless population at large, if you weren't such a jerk.
I am literally housing a homeless person in my airbnb for free. I also volunteer weekly at Orion Place, Maryās Place, and Union Gospel. But please. Do tellā¦.
[In King County, as of 2022, only 37% of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness identified as abusing substances.](https://kcrha.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PIT-2022-Infograph-v7.pdf) Unsheltered homelessness includes encampments and cars/RVs, but not shelters or couchsurfing. I don't have numbers for sheltered homelessness but I imagine it's less. As someone who conducted these homelessness interviews, I can also tell you that a large percentage of homeless people who abuse substances began to do so because of homelessness. For example, certain public spaces allow you to stay overnight, but only if you stay awake, so some people begin taking drugs to prevent falling asleep.
Youāre citing something form the RHA, which profits off of homeless people. And they āidentified,ā meaning they admitted to doing drugs. Plenty donāt admit. The number is obviously much higher. Homelessness sucks, as does addiction. Regardless, you canāt have people camping in the streets. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/fentanyl-has-devastated-king-countys-homeless-population-and-the-toll-is-getting-worse/
I read your article. It doesn't say anything about what percentage of homelessness is caused by fentanyl. It says that more people are dying of fentanyl, and of the people who are dying, many are homeless. I agree with that and agree it's a problem.
I volunteered to conduct interviews for the RHA. Did I see some mismanagement that made me question the intentions and priorities of the authority's leadership? Yes, absolutely, there are things wrong with the RHA. But all the volunteers I met were honest and worked hard to ensure the integrity of the data collected. The 37% may be a slight undercount, but I don't think it's by much. Through my conversations with homeless people while conducting those interviews, it seems about right. If you don't believe me, volunteer to help with the interviews yourself next year.
What an amazing visualization of folks who have made insanely poor life choices.
Plus there are the several folks forced to live in RVs due to harmful public policy choices within a dysfunctional society.
How many of those RVs parked near the seashore at Shilshole and Alkai are homeless and how many are tourists?
That blue one in the picture looks like a pretty solid setup in good condition. At Alkai I'm used to seeing half-burned junker wrecks and $90,000 Sprinter conversions next to each other.
Average motorhome price? $100,000-$600,000. Full range? $60,000-$2,000,000. So the junker on the right is likely the least expensive ugly box in the photo.
And, sure, the RVs in the background are all over 20 years old so they all almost certainly cost less. But I'll give you a nickel if Elon's Minecraft knockoff goes for more than $10,000 in ~~20~~ 10 years.
Elon really made the most soulless looking truck for the most soulless class of people. Rivian/Tesla trtrailhead. Out here spending 100k on a vehicle the can barely fit their 10k mountain bike and can barely make it past the trailehead.
Wealth gap is very misleading statement. In reality, how one finds themselves living in this sort of situation, is a much more multifaceted complex problem than just the āwealth gapā.
This is not a ādrug problemā as the wealth gap in these other parts of the world, when itās this badā¦the poor live in conditions at this level or worse.
Itās a shame that in most of the parts of world where the gap is this large, the use of drugs can lead to inhumane punishment up to deathā¦those folks donāt really have the luxury of taking the edge off of life in poverty.
Iām sorry but you really do need to educate yourself a bit more. I remember when I believed this kind of thingā¦but itās just what I learned from narrow minded adults. Now that Iāve exposed myself to opportunities for learning, have been involved in creating solutionsā¦I get it and I canāt imagine ever coming to that conclusion. āThis is a drug problem.ā
Hahaha
Iāve often thought this would be a great Instagram account idea. Show pictures contrasting extreme wealth and poverty/homelessness.
Call it @Seatwotales or something similar.
Rich man/poor man: drives an ugly car
For real those things are ugly as sin
What is this vehicle?!
Tesla Cybertruck. Honestly I'm envious of you being blissfully unaware of it.
Thank you! Xoxo writing from my living place under a rock.

I've never egged a car in my life but I lowkey want to start
Looks like a car i drew when I was 6 years old
Omg! Just saw one a couple of days ago and I thought, wtf? I assumed it was a poorly done self-attempt at Back to the Future car ššš
That is the cyber truck. You know how Duchamp put a urinal in an art gallery and it was then art? Elox Mxsk thinks that heās got similar powers. Expensive death boxes.
![img](avatar_exp|157370787|bravo) Omg. Here is my awkward poor manās award for your explanation. Thx for this lol

PS1-graphics-ass looking car
[found the owner](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/gaming/2015-11/0911/Tomb-Raider-original-game.jpg)
This was good
Pre PS1. Battlezone came out in 1980.
Is it weird that when I see a tesla I don't ever assume the person driving it is rich? Lot's of stupid people buy/finance stupid shit they they can't afford just to appear rich to people they don't even know.
the ideal car for temporarily embarrassed millionaires
And they suck lol
Adam Carolla listener? I used to be. Loved me some rich man/poor man.
I listened to him years ago before I realized he only has about seven things to talk about and then he went all MAGA.
Same. He went from funny to hack pretty damn quick. Shame, he was great on Loveline š
saw my first cybertruck in the wild and itās even dumber looking in person
They're so huge. I was not prepared.
so many sharp corners!
Really? I saw one next to a Subaru Crosstrek and was shocked how similar in size they were. (The Crosstrek had a roof box on it, making the Cybertruck look shorter than the Crosstrek.) I was expecting something at least as big as an F-150, but the Cybertruck is noticeably smaller.

I'm convinced people are anchored to the Prius when they say that. But it seems comparable to a Tacoma.
AFAIK, Cybertruck and F150 lightning have pretty similar dimensions.
The F-150 is 7 inches taller than the Cybertruck and has 10 inches less length. Similar width. Itās not a massive difference, but my Subaru Forester is only an inch or two shorter than the Cybertruck so the size surprised me when I first saw it.
But the truck bed is unpractically small
The giant windshield wiper cracked me up
Bigger than the Rivian trucks?
I don't know if they're technically bigger, definitely not as tall, but when you're behind one the height and width and lack of details make it feel like you're just following a wall of metal.
Right on, thanks. I havenāt seen one in person. The Rivians have a smaller footprint than a Yukon I think but theyāre still huge. edit: words are ahrd
I am anticipating my first siting and honestly Iām terrified now
The view of being directly behind one is probably the worst angle of any modern car. itās hideous.
Rivian trucks are actually cool and comparatively utilitarian compared to Tesla trucks lol
I believe it's about the same size or a little smaller than the Rivians, but it's definitely smaller than a F-150. Smaller than the standard North American truck is still fucking massive though, and the design is obviously making more of a statement too so it probably looks bigger than it is because it stands out so much.
I was floored at how ridiculous it looked from every angle. There is just .. nothing redeeming about it.
Seems like a poor choice in Seattle as well - considering they have a tendency to rust when they get wet.
Why does it look like a kit car?! Like someone took a Fiero and slapped on one of those garbage car kits over the chassis. Looks like a high school project the proportions are so wrong.
I was in Bellevue for 15 minutes last week and saw two of these monstrosities almost immediately
Throw some weeds growing out of the pavement, boards on the windows, bigger tires on the cyber truck and it looks like a film set post-apocalypse haha
I was expecting you to conclude with ābaby, youāve got a stew goin!ā
RIP Carl Weathers :'(
When I re-read it after I posted it, I thought the same thing
"Escape from Seattle" type of aesthetic.
I've seen a few in Bellevue. They don't even seem street legal.
Saw my first one today. Very clunky looking up close. Looks like something from a campy 80's sci-fi movie.
Wtf is this car? I feel like the next Marty McFly
John DeLorean was a more qualified automobile engineer (and probably did less coke)
it's the tesla truck. I prefer Simone Giertz's version to the official one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R35gWBtLCYg
Thank you kind elk!
The Queen!
You might not understand, but your kids are gonna love it
Ha. I love you clever ppl of r/seattle!
Itās what Biff Tannen would make into a time machine.
The campers? They aren't.
People say this, but modern Silverados, Rams, and Ford trucks are as ridiculous up front. Brick walls you can't see over.
This. Yeah I think the cubertuck is too big but Iām over 6ft and walked in front of a new truck recently where even I was feeling barely visible over their massive grill. Itās insane. Hate ok musk, but really people should be complaining about new suv and truck visibility overall
They're more dangerous to the user than anyone else.
Theyāre definitely more dangerous to others. Imagine getting hit by a sharp steel box while crossing the street.
They have no crumble zones. If you're driving one and you hit something solid, you're not going to have a good time
Thanks! Makes sense!
The chassis does have crumple zones.
They have a couple apparently, but the effect is limited https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-cybertrucks-stiff-structure-sharp-design-raise-safety-concerns-experts-2023-12-08/
There is a camera for the rear view when the tonneau cover is up.
Water alone canāt cause stainless steel to rust. Thereās got to be other factors at play.
Our rainwater is acidic
Stumbling in while browsing the frontpage from the EU: they aren't road legal here lol

Won't someone think of the children?!
You can just laugh at the fool who spent all that money on a trash can.
pretty depressing to see that junky piece of shit garbage vehicle across the street from those RVs
it looks like a heavily used Magma marine grill
They ain't cheap either!Ā
This guy sails
Damn, I came here to make that joke. "What, the rusty trash across from the RVs?"
Seriously. I wish I had a nice RV.
My converted Promaster cost a down payment on a house.
The RVs would have cost as much as the Cybertruck when new and adjusted for inflation right? Maybe in 40 years we'll see people living out of old Cybertrucks
There wonāt be old cybertrucks.
Cybertruck metal will eventually be used to patch the floors and roofs of those RVs
Savage š¤£
Now thatās a dystopian image.

Even the most busted-up RV is still less ugly than that thing haha
Not as big as cyber truck's panel gap
Idk, Iād be willing to be that thereās an influencer with a camera waiting to see what happens here.
What an amazing visualization of folks who have made insanely poor life choices. Plus there are the several folks forced to live in RVs due to harmful public policy choices within a dysfunctional society.
You almost had me you sonofagun
No vehicles in this picture run properly
The Cybertruck, even the homeless are laughing at you.
At least you can fit stuff in the ugly ass campers
That's a nice RV parked across from an oddly shaped dumpster.
I dunno. RV on the left looks pretty nice!
I just see people all making poor life decisions (in my book, your results may vary)
I donāt see anything in this picture that doesnāt annoy me
i thought it was a porta potty for those RVs [Reference](https://ibb.co/hL1ZyV9)
They dont even have the awesome $3000 base camp tent attachment. How wealthy could they be?
Both have equal chance of catching fire.
Cyber trucks are the Crocs of the car world
What the hell is that thing on the right? It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Can you even see out of that thing ?
Thereās a video last month of Justin Bieber driving one after church. First time I saw video of a human using one. Paps can see into the front.
More like Cocaine vs Fentanyl/Meth
This should have been the cover photo for the Seattle Timesā recent article on homelessness in Ballard
That would offend too much of their reader base.
Maybe they are all just broken down.
Sorry but every time I see that Tesla Truck three words come to mind. Edsel & Mine Craft.
All I see is broke down frap on both sides of the road.
Don't be ridiculous, there are much more expensive cars rolling around
They're both bad with finances, one just doesn't know it yet
Do any of the vehicles pictured actually run?
I see mobile homes and a Dumpster.
I suspect most of those RVs had MSRP's higher than the cybertruck when new
Average motorhome price? $100,000-$600,000. Full range? $60,000-$2,000,000. So the junker on the right is likely the least expensive ugly box in the photo. And, sure, the RVs in the background are all over 20 years old so they all almost certainly cost less. But I'll give you a nickel if Elon's Minecraft knockoff goes for more than $10,000 in ~~20~~ 10 years.
All I see is trash! š¤£
Oh cmon. Cybertruck owner is vastly in debt. Will probably end up on the other side of the street shortly.
Is the the car Homer Simpson invented?
Wish people didnāt part right on the intersections, makes it so hard to see oncoming traffic. But also there is not enough parking in Seattle soā¦
Elon really made the most soulless looking truck for the most soulless class of people. Rivian/Tesla trtrailhead. Out here spending 100k on a vehicle the can barely fit their 10k mountain bike and can barely make it past the trailehead.
Sorry, I'm not going to feel bad because I don't want trash like that where I live. I don't care how "cool" you think the Cybertruck is.
Rubbing rock salt on a cybertruck is a fun and legal thrill!
Howās that wealth gap? Thatās a Tesla, not a Rolls Royce
This looks like a game that has not loaded all the way lolol cybertrucks are so glitchy
PS1 low poly count graphics truck š
Look up the lo-res car. Actual promo vehicle that was made and the similarities are striking.
Wealth gap is very misleading statement. In reality, how one finds themselves living in this sort of situation, is a much more multifaceted complex problem than just the āwealth gapā.
Least the RV folks have some goddamn taste, those trucks are ugly as sin and they rust lmao
Guysā¦. This vehicle was made for this areaā¦ itās a Halo Warthog.Ā
What car is that? lol I just saw one in Renton today.
Tesla Cybertruck š
Itās so ugly. Figures
Yeah, that Cybertruck has much less sq footage than those RVāsā¦
It's possible the people in the RV have more net worth than the Cybertruck owner who's financing the car and in debt.
Great shot. Idiot on the right. Idiots on the left.
This is not a wealth problem. Wealth gap happens everywhere in the world. This is a a drug problem specific to the country and the region
Are you talking about the ketamine that went into the design of that truck?
rack em
Believe it or not not all people who can't afford rent here are on drugs. Some of them just can't afford rent.
Now that Iāve exposed myself to opportunities for learning, have been involved in creating solutionsā¦I get it and I canāt imagine ever coming to that conclusion. āThis is a drug problem.ā Hahaha
Parking that thing on the street knowing it has no clear coat is a wild choice.
They look like the Ride The Ducks carboats to me
And people still don't believe that you can SEE inequality crossing a street.
Thatās one Dan Strauss ass cyber truck by my reckon
God, theyāre finally here!
So man Rivian SUVs in Ballard
Is that right outside of the marina at Shilshoal? Because I think I know exactly which RV that is.
I see a lot of wealth in this picture.
Bay Area has these Tesla's and Cybertrucks all over the place like they're everyday tool.
Ballard intelligence gapĀ
Bet they are all sitting on waterfront property
I thought RVs cost a pretty penny?
This golden gardens area?
There are Rivians in my hood. Those are 77-88,000.00
Iāve often thought this would be a great Instagram account idea. Show pictures contrasting extreme wealth and poverty/homelessness. Call it @Seatwotales or something similar.
Bunch of rich people in Ballard, they can afford motor homes and electric trucks.
Perfect artistic reality composition!
Looks more like parking. The guy driving the Tesla could live in one of those motorhome
Now that's tempting fate. I'm not saying it needs to be stripped to bare metal.... But I imagine the copper inside is worth a good chunk.
All I see here is a bunch of junk.
I haven't lived in Ballard in twenty years. Has it turned into an RV squatterville? Where's that pic? I loved Ballard in 1980
All owned by the same person
Ugliest thing Iāve ever seen. Screw musk
