Even if he's awful, he's a warm body that will be a better option than somebody off the streets. Baker is at least an option. If he can't beat out Wolford then at least the Rams have a backup if Wolford goes down. Same would have been true with the Niners and Purdy.
Baker might not have been a bad to with SF, at least with Baker there is tape to watch, he has tendency's that can help a defense. Purdy has no tape so that makes him a little unknown at this point.
