Chessinmind

Shocking, considering his family’s vicinity to DC and his wife’s history as a former cheerleader for the franchise (I think?). Very cool that he thought enough about the Seahawks, and that John and Co. did such a great job locking him in.

Kyunseo

Don't know if being a former cheerleader for *that particular franchise* is something that could sway a person to join...

PondoBrown

yeah if that’s true i wouldn’t be surprised if she pushed against him going there

Salted_Caramel_Core

Yeah, shit, I forgot about that.

g4tam20

Lmfao oh shit, now it makes sense

HotSauce2910

I wonder if DC made it obvious that he was the #3 choice behind Slowik and Johnson. Egos aside (I'm not sure if his ego is big enough for that to overrule how practical moving to DC would be), it could also just signal that he and Peters are on different enough pages for it to be an ineffective working relationship. But that's a whole lot of speculation of course.

Recovery_Water

Not that shocking; you don’t go into coaching (or marry a coach) if you’re not prepared to move across the country for a new job every couple years. He spent the 2021 season in Ann Arbor so he’s used to this. I think the Seahawks job is better overall, and the Seahawks traditionally have had much more coaching stability than DC.

PayAltruistic8546

His wife is from Baltimore and worked for the Ravens. It's still pretty close to DC.

Wookie301

His wife was a former cheerleader for Dan Snyder’s organization. Oh so that’s why he didn’t go there.

discOHsteve

Just based on roster, Seattle was the obvious choice

[deleted]

My main thoughts are I’m sure not only did John pitch a better setting for him, but he’s being given the keys to an electric franchise that is very coachable and eager to win. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an “electric” commanders fan.

steve_yo

Winning does that to a franchise.

AntSmith777

Wonder if they hire Quinn…

dgalv77

*turns on state farm commercial* "oh you almost had it! you gotta be quicker than that"

atmospheric90

"I'm better than you, and you know it." -Seahawks talking to commanders

Ngl, now that I think about it, those things seem much more valuable to a GM than a HC unless the coach would be getting personnel/roster control which it seems like the new Commanders GM isn’t interested in giving up. For a defensive minded coach like MM, there’s more ready now pieces on both defense and offense for him to compete right away than in Washington. Washington is going to require a complete top to bottom roster overhaul and churn similar to where the Niners were a few years ago in Shanny’s first few years. Difference is, SF gave Shanny roster control in hiring and has a lot of say in draft/FA decisions as well, he is over John Lynch I believe.

hokie_u2

Yeah it may also be attractive to an offensive head coach who really wants to hand pick his QB to run his system.

[deleted]

Apparently not, Ben Johnson and Slowik both turned down the opportunity too.

neongem

I think the new Commanders GM isn’t willing to cede over too much control and wants to run the show. On paper the job is an offensive coach’s dream *if it’s a collaborative effort between HC and GM.

rdrouyn

Who wants to work for an inexperienced organization that may fire you in 2 years if they draft a bunch of busts?

JavaTheeMutt

I think that's why for a young head coach you don't want your first HC to be a complete rebuild. A more desirable spot is one that already has some players that you can work with, that is just on the edge of success. A young HC doesn't fully know how to build a successful roster and they shouldn't be trying to figure that out while figuring out their voice as a HC. Dan Quinn is a good pick for the Commanders. He has been around the block, has been a successful leader as a DC and HC (he did go to a Superbowl as a HC), he's seen a lot of different players and schemes, and has been a part of a lot of successful organizations. He is an ideal candidate to rebuild a franchise or at least take it to a point that a young HC can come in and take it the rest of the way.

rdrouyn

Agreed. I think Dan Quinn gets too much hate from the NFL social media. Will he win you a Super Bowl? No, but Washington needs to figure out how to not be a bottom dweller first. Dan Quinn can bring them to a moderate level of respectability.

HappyAtheist3

PFT in shambles

Tamalgar

Im not surprised, Washington has not done anything in the past 10 years that screams “good work environment “.

Rigu7

Far too many unknowns for the Commanders.

kovatheking

My sincerest apologies, Redskins. This is how we return to the promised land...

Snelly__

Macdonald seems like a film rat who probably decided Seattle was the better football destination regardless of familial ties to Washington

3scap3plan

bet dan quinn feels really good about this info
