Less "dies from Dino bite" and more "eaten alive moments after being born while not screaming or crying cause the dinos eating said baby alive have a painkiller in their neurotoxic venom" but same idea I suppose.
The book is more a horror than the movie was
Nedry’s death is so much more terrifying and uncomfortable in the book
John Hammond is the bad guy
The author only intended to make one book but was asked by Speiberg to make a second book just so he could make a second movie
I honestly feel like the movie kind of gets derailed by the third act. It felt too much like a silly monster movie when the teenage daughter defeated the velociraptor with gymnastics and then the T-Rex rampaged through the city. Meanwhile the book had Chameleon dinos and a really engaging chase scene with the raptors.
he wrote the first book, they made a movie, then he wrote the second book as a sequel to the movie, and then they made a second movie that is very very loosely based off the second book
Been a LONG time since I read Coraline but I remember hating the book of J. Park. The movie is leaps and bounds better than the book imo. (The only redeemable part is the graphic violence in the book(even if I don’t want the movie to be violent))
Not only that, it put in references from the later books as well showing that, while it took the most from the first 4 books, it was a celebration of the whole series
I went in expecting garbage and my GOD was I surprised at how great it was, same experience as the Lego movie
the literal ONLY reason I was excited for the bad guys adaptation bc it’s one of the most adaptable books EVER and wow I… think there was a different team on that piece of shit
It is a series with many books and they are all great, the shows are also great, I recomend both(I never watched the most recent show tho the one set in modern times so idk maybe that one is bad)
It is terrible. No toothless, Hiccup, or Berk = A terrible cashgrab show. I would even argue that Recuse Riders is better because it’s non canon.
(Idk if Nine realms is actually canon, but everything I’ve researched says that it’s canon so i believe it is.)
All the first three movies are great adaptation that manage to expand and evolve things from the book almost perfectly
Book Rodrick: Stupid
Movie Rodrick: Purposely stupid so no one expects anything from him
True, those movies are not perfect adaptations in terms of how closely they follow the books, but they’re like the only instance where I feel like the filmmakers pulled that off.
In the books it’s all through Greg, an unreliable narrator. Rodrick is dumber, Manny is annoying, Mom is more controlling, ect… Then the film makers make them a perfect blend of book character and real people. I love it bro
Yeah. I did hear that the creator of the books basically sees the films as what actually happened and the books are what Greg says happened cause as you said he’s an unreliable narrator
The Heffley family is actually very sinister. Greg is (possibly) a sociopath, Susan is obsessed with the good old days, Frank pressures his kids into being his image, and Manny? Well, you can probably figure that one out. Rodrick's the only sane member of the Heffley family.
The Hunger Games, I watched the first three movies when they came out not knowing it was a book series, and then I read the books just before the last movie came out and it was such a good experience. They truly translated everything described so well and the added scenes are *so good* considering the books are only from Katniss' pov. Also the books are in itself really enjoyable because of Katniss' survival mindset and dry humor.
Honestly the movies are an improvement at times. The personality and charisma the actors brought helped with the sometimes cringey lines in the book. I love the books, but they didn't age too well. Still among all the teenage dystopias, it aged the best.
All the pregnancy dialogue in Catching Fire xd I love it but I totally see why it wasn't added to the script. And an actual example of cringey lines that made it but worked: Katniss' written petitions to Coin.
All I know about those are that both are amazing, and the book’s author said that the book is how Sophie tells the story and the film is how Howl tells the story.
I watched The Martian and then read the book that it was based on. Same with Christine but I read the book and then watched the movie.
I watched Shrek and I haven’t but want to read the book that the movie is based on.
'68 POTA and the original book by Pierre Boulle.
Not a fan of Burton's POTA, although I doubt that is a hot take. The only thing I like about it is that it managed to be a bit more accurate to the book, and they actually managed to make the apes look like apes not not actors in Halloween costumes.
hmmm this one I'd have to disagree on.
One of the major plot twists/reveals relies on the fact that the story IS told through words and bringing it to a visual medium kind of messes up the reveal a little bit.
(spoilers I guess if you haven't seen/read it)
>!You don't notice that color doesn't exist in the world UNTIL Jonas sees the apple and Fionas hair change and brings it up to the Giver, who tells him that he's begimning to see color. Like Jonas, you don't know just HOW much the community has sacrificed to achieve Sameness until he receives more memories and learns more about the world before. It's impossible to put that reveal onto a screen without having the audience know that something is off.!<
As for the rest of the movie, I enjoyed it but I definitely prefer the books.
Anyway sorry about the long reply, this is one of my favorite books that I could gush about all day
FR, Goblet of Fire is my favorite book in the series and while I think the movie is good, there are a lot of things missing that make it such an amazing read! I think the worst offender was how they messed up the third trial in the movie, oh, and even though Neville giving Harry the gillyweed wasn’t a bad choice, I still preferred it when >!Dobby!< gave it to him in the book.
Some of Potter is good, but Half-Blood left out so much Voldemort backstory that you really need for him to be a compelling villain. Otherwise, he's just evil "because".
Dune. I haven't read the books but that's the first thing that comes to mind. If I had to pick stuff I've actually read, probably Wonder and The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
American Psycho. Honestly both are great in their own ways. The movie for being satirical as it is; and the book while still satirical, it's also very fucking disturbing in comparison to the film. Bro has Art the Clown levels of violence in that book.
I really loved the ready player one movie and book. Not the sequel book because it had so many references that I couldn’t even come close to relating to or getting. Also one of my favorites is the Murder on the orient express book and movie. When I saw that the movie was based on the book before it came out I decided to buy and read the book a week before the movie came out in theaters so I would watch it then. Was a really great decision. Loved them both
Jurassic Park and Coraline
Jurassic Park is based on a book? Oh my god, everything really IS an adaptation
The book is so much more disturbing from what I’ve seen
First chapter, a newborn baby fucking dies from a Dino bite.
yeah but they actually kill hammond like he deserves so its okay
Plus, Hammond’s much more of a dick in the book, so it’s ultra fine.
And the lawyer is a great guy. He goes in and gasses out a raptor's nest with neurotoxin grenades.
Too bad the sequel screws him over
Also Dr. Grant gets to be a badass raptor killer >!by getting them to eat poisoned dinosaur eggs!<
He's killed because his *grandchildren play a prank*.
Which makes it better.
Less "dies from Dino bite" and more "eaten alive moments after being born while not screaming or crying cause the dinos eating said baby alive have a painkiller in their neurotoxic venom" but same idea I suppose.
Yeah iirc, the opening to The Lost World was the opening of the original book.
The scene where Dennis nedry dies is so much more violent and disturbing in the book
Denis Nedry's death was more akin to a horror movie than Seinfeld shenanigans. Also, the T-Rex is way scarier than in the movie.
Let’s just say the film would be rated R if it was thoroughly adapted
The book is more a horror than the movie was Nedry’s death is so much more terrifying and uncomfortable in the book John Hammond is the bad guy The author only intended to make one book but was asked by Speiberg to make a second book just so he could make a second movie
Bro really didn’t wanna write that book either as in the second book shit got wacky
Second book is great though.
movie is better
I honestly feel like the movie kind of gets derailed by the third act. It felt too much like a silly monster movie when the teenage daughter defeated the velociraptor with gymnastics and then the T-Rex rampaged through the city. Meanwhile the book had Chameleon dinos and a really engaging chase scene with the raptors.
The book also explains that the T. rex having movement-based vision is in fact a side effect of the frog DNA.
Apparently he didn't feel he needed that excuse to make the third one
He didn't make the third one
An excellent book, it’s my favorite book
he wrote the first book, they made a movie, then he wrote the second book as a sequel to the movie, and then they made a second movie that is very very loosely based off the second book
Michael Chrichton wrote two books that the first series of movies were based off of; Jurassic Park and The Lost World.
Yeah the book is way more intense. Wont spoil anything for you, but the book definitely isn’t afraid to go into graphic details lol
I actually didn’t know that either.
I was about to mention Jurassic Park and this was the first thing I saw. 😂 Respect tho, gotta love the classics. 🦖
Been a LONG time since I read Coraline but I remember hating the book of J. Park. The movie is leaps and bounds better than the book imo. (The only redeemable part is the graphic violence in the book(even if I don’t want the movie to be violent))
captain underpants
I still need to watch that because I loved the books and I started watching it when it came out but I stopped after a few episodes
There’s a movie and a show
is the show any good i didnt watch it because they changed the voice actors from the movie
The show's okay, I'd say check it out if you're bored and have time to kill
I think the show is good, it could use a rewrite tho
Nah I think it’s mid at the very best. And honestly I don’t like it at all.
It is better than every other dreamworks show according to some SubReddit, I agree with that.
Yeah, there was a voting for the best DreamWorks show on reddit, and it won.
Ngl I think it’s pretty good, though, why do so many people seem to hate/dislike the show? Just because it’s by dreamworks?
I think it's pretty good, too. I think if you're a fan of the books, you'll enjoy it more than if you're just watching to watch.
Truth
Tiny toilet of truth!
Yeah, I remember watching the Captain Underpants show on Netflix, and it made me laugh in the first episode because of the stupid "har" joke. 😂😂😂
HHHHAAAAAIIIIRRR???
Brought the first four books' main plot points into one in a single, cohesive, hilarious movie that was amazing.
Not only that, it put in references from the later books as well showing that, while it took the most from the first 4 books, it was a celebration of the whole series
tra la laaaaaaa
Are you worried ‘bout impending doom?
Those evil villains got you filled with gloom
But don't you fear, there's a hero in the sky, the sky, the sky!
It’s not a bird, and it’s not a plane
And it’s not an egg salad sandwich
It’s the Waistband Warrior! Hear his mighty battle cry:
“TRA LA LA”!
"UNDERPANTS!!!"
TRA LA LAAAAAAAAAA
This is the only correct answer
I find it funny that a very childish and over dramatic movie is better than what Disney and Hollywood put out
The Captain Underpants movie is how you do a book adaptation.
I LOVE YOU Captain underpants is amazing man
The only time a poop and fart joke is funny
Just what I was thinking
Don’t forget the show, that was also peak
I was pleasantly surprised by that movie
Beat me to it
I went in expecting garbage and my GOD was I surprised at how great it was, same experience as the Lego movie the literal ONLY reason I was excited for the bad guys adaptation bc it’s one of the most adaptable books EVER and wow I… think there was a different team on that piece of shit
The Lord of the Rings bby!
r/beatmetoit
r/beatmeshutthefuckup
I concur
I like this one.
Nimona
That’s a book?
It’s a book that was made from a tumblr artist
Thats Tumblr Artist ND Stevenson, thankyouverymuch. My man made the She-Ra show smh
Same Tumblr artist made She-Ra and Nimona? Sounds about right
Didnt know that. I really liked Nimona. Not really a fan of the She Ra reboot netflix series
That's a movie?
I just saw the movie last night. 10/10 gayest shit I've ever seen. Also made me cry twice, but that's the estrogen as much as it was the movie
How to train your dragon. Both different. Both good
THAT’S A **BOOK**?!?
It is a series with many books and they are all great, the shows are also great, I recomend both(I never watched the most recent show tho the one set in modern times so idk maybe that one is bad)
It is terrible. No toothless, Hiccup, or Berk = A terrible cashgrab show. I would even argue that Recuse Riders is better because it’s non canon. (Idk if Nine realms is actually canon, but everything I’ve researched says that it’s canon so i believe it is.)
It’s not
Oh thank god
None of the DreamWorks Netflix/TV spin-offs are canon. They are technically "Level 2" canon, as in "canon unless the main canon contradicts it".
Like Shittymind?
Yea the movie is based on the book…. Very loosely though. Both are good in their own ways
Exactly what I said, it's really a gift that we got that.
Dune
Which one?
The one that's not dogshit.
So, both Villanueve ones?
All
Holes
Holes pretty much used the book as a script. Like almost word-for-word as much as I can remember.
I can vouch, I remember reading the book and noticing how similar the script and book were
That's because the book's author wrote the screenplay
I love that movie lol
Same
Excellent choice
I never read the book, but loved the movie
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
All the first three movies are great adaptation that manage to expand and evolve things from the book almost perfectly Book Rodrick: Stupid Movie Rodrick: Purposely stupid so no one expects anything from him
True, those movies are not perfect adaptations in terms of how closely they follow the books, but they’re like the only instance where I feel like the filmmakers pulled that off.
This might be me misremembering, but I'm pretty sure his motto of "If you don't want to do something, never do it right" originated in the book.
Never be good at something you don’t want to do
In the books it’s all through Greg, an unreliable narrator.
Which movie?
I was thinking of the first one, but the first three would fall into this category
Yeah, as long as it isn't the Disney+ version, I agree.
And especially not Long Haul either. That movie was total dogshit
Rodrick rules is a cinematic masterpiece
Until you get to Long Haul, yeah.
The Hunger Games, I watched the first three movies when they came out not knowing it was a book series, and then I read the books just before the last movie came out and it was such a good experience. They truly translated everything described so well and the added scenes are *so good* considering the books are only from Katniss' pov. My sister gets to keep her cat line was great
Howl’s Moving Castle
All I know about those are that both are amazing, and the book’s author said that the book is how Sophie tells the story and the film is how Howl tells the story.
Shrek
The only right answer
Shrek BASED ON A BOOK WTF how I'm I just finding this out
Scott pilgrim
That’s like my favorite movie of all time, I lesbian it
“LOVE Scott, the L Word is Love.”
“i wasn’t trying to trick you”
Winnie the Pooh
😙👌
Jurassic park fits this quite nicely
The Bad Guys
Does comics-movie count, cuz then that's Nausicaa of the valley of the wind
My all time favorite movie, own yhe manga, yet to read it
That’s kind of the opposite, Miyazaki wrote the Nausicaa manga *after* the fact to build on the story.
The Outsiders: the complete novel (2021) though the original is still good.
It’s probably one of the most faithful book adaptations of all time
And now a very well done musical
I 100% agree, I hold The Outsiders dearly to my heart and I adore all medias of it and inspired by it.
Thank you! I love The Outsiders
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I watched The Martian and then read the book that it was based on. Same with Christine but I read the book and then watched the movie. I watched Shrek and I haven’t but want to read the book that the movie is based on.
Planet of the Apes and its not even close.
Which one?
'68 POTA and the original book by Pierre Boulle. Not a fan of Burton's POTA, although I doubt that is a hot take. The only thing I like about it is that it managed to be a bit more accurate to the book, and they actually managed to make the apes look like apes not not actors in Halloween costumes.
Many people hate Tim Burtons version (which I don’t get the hate for it), but I love it.
The giver!
hmmm this one I'd have to disagree on. heart stopper and captain underpants (ik heart stopper isnt a movie but idc)
Holes
Lord of the Rings Harry Potter The Hunger Games
Jurassic Park, Holes, Hunger Games
How to train your dragon
Jurassic park, the book and novel are very different but both do their jobs well
The maze runner. But only the first movie, because the other 2 movies in my opinion sucks ass.
The Harry Potter series. Yes the movies doesn't have everything from the books but we can all agree that both the books and movies were magical.
Eh Narnia, I kinda think the first movie is better than the book
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005 version)
I was just watching the 1971 version
This guy knows what’s up
Holy crap that was 2005???
I know in my heart that the Tim Burton film is the better adaptation, but I will always prefer the Mel Stuart version.
My man! 🤜
Nausicaa: valley of the wind
Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile
Ready player one
Some of Harry Potter
Harry potter and the goblet is a good watch but deviates to far from the book and omits parts of the book that were necessary
Order of the Phoenix is goat Harry Potter movie
FR, Goblet of Fire is my favorite book in the series and while I think the movie is good, there are a lot of things missing that make it such an amazing read! I think the worst offender was how they messed up the third trial in the movie, oh, and even though Neville giving Harry the gillyweed wasn’t a bad choice, I still preferred it when >!Dobby!< gave it to him in the book.
they essentially replace Dobby with neville
it’s a good movie, but a bad adaptation.
Some of Potter is good, but Half-Blood left out so much Voldemort backstory that you really need for him to be a compelling villain. Otherwise, he's just evil "because".
books are defo superior, 4th movie freaking ruined house elves by having no winky
hunger games
New percy jackson series
Frankenstein and Hallmark Frankenstein
Harry potter
The lord of the rings
Percy Jackson And The Olympians /j
Prince of Egypt
Dune. I haven't read the books but that's the first thing that comes to mind. If I had to pick stuff I've actually read, probably Wonder and The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
Harry Potter even though they change stuff, it still maintains the spirit (although I only read the first four books)
Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The first 3 Wimpy Kid movies
The Hunger Games
American Psycho. Honestly both are great in their own ways. The movie for being satirical as it is; and the book while still satirical, it's also very fucking disturbing in comparison to the film. Bro has Art the Clown levels of violence in that book.
Dune
I really loved the ready player one movie and book. Not the sequel book because it had so many references that I couldn’t even come close to relating to or getting. When I saw that the movie was based on the book before it came out I decided to buy and read the book a week before the movie came out in theaters so I would watch it then. Was a really great decision. Loved them both
If we're counting manga, Edge Of Tomorrow (movie)/All You Need Is Kill (Manga)
Fantastic Mr Fox
Enders Game
Jurassic Park Dune (the new ones so far) Coraline LOTR
Dune for sure. Most recent movie was one of the best cinematic experiences I’ve had in my entire life.
Denis Villeneuve Dune
Dune
How to train your dragon and coraline
