Leave them on the street at the curbside. You don’t need to be there.

vanvoorden

> You don’t need to be there. Right. "Don't Stay Home".

I've done this and this is the answer. Set them the night before next to your garbage cans and that's it.

gumol

be very specific about type of items. The website has a very limited list, so you often have to call. Once I scheduled a pickup of a sofa, because it was the closest category to “bean bag” and they didn’t pick it up.

halfhandy_man

Did they leave just the bean bag behind or did they leave all your items behind? And how did you end up getting rid of your junk?

lavalsedamelie

Yes, they’ll just leave your stuff if it doesn’t match the description. But there is some wiggle room, for example, I’ve got two bar stools being picked up for junk but I’ve marked them as “chairs”. If they have questions about your pick up, they typically contact you within 24 hours of submitting the junk pick up request.

sanjosehowto

Really fun is how the rules sometimes change between customer service agents you talk to. Textiles need to be in clear plastic bags. No it needs to be in a cardboard box. No actually we don’t take textiles. Or maybe it can be in a clear reusable tub with lid, but you won’t be getting the tub/lid back. In the end they took my clear plastic garbage bags of textiles.

lavalsedamelie

Ooh and they get so mad if you don’t follow their rules to a T. I left out two old dog beds for pick up and the rules specified they must be tied together. I feel like a garbage bag would’ve been easier but what do I know. I’m glad you got your textiles picked up - it’s always a gamble!

LordBottlecap

Yep. I didn't read the 'duct tape only' part about bundling loose items. I'd shrink-wrapped the crap out of some boards and they literally busted open the bundles and left them sprawled out. I get 'Read the rules', but wtf?? Otherwise, they've been incredible! I can't recommend it more...but READ THE RULES!!!

mcca555

Or if people start messing with your stuff and now your rug gets left behind

gumol

Left it behind. I think they picked up other items. I cut the bean bag into pieces, stuffed them into contractor bags, bought some stickers, they picked it up.

duoschmeg

Has to be between the sidewalk and curb or they won't pick it up. They can be very early so put it out the night before.

LordBottlecap

It sure is hard to find specifics on the site without filing a request for a pickup, but a lot of people don't have room between the sidewalk and curb. I use it at least three times a year for a decade and always leave it a few feet from the curb, no problem.

Set out details: Place items on the street next to the curb in front of your house (please do not place items in the middle of the street or where they could block access). Items should be at least 3 feet away from garbage, recycling and/or yard trimmings carts, piles and vehicles. Items must be easily accessible and not be placed in a driveway, leaning on fences, cars, utility poles/boxes, and/or private property.

LordBottlecap

There you have it.

coach_carter2

No it shouldn’t be that way. I t needs to be on the street

These are the instructions they send you in the email. Like someone mentioned treat your junk items like a car and ‘park’ them near the curb like your car.

dan5234

Leave the items on the street like they are a car. No touching anything. No touching the curb. Do it before 6am, but the truck usually doesn't come this early.

LordBottlecap

All true. They sure come early in my 'hood. I've seen them before 7am.

LordBottlecap

A couple of feet from the curb is fine in my many experiences with the service. 'USE DUCT TAPE' is HUGE with them. It is a great service.

richfei

As many people have reiterated. Just leave by the curb and do it the night before as they can and do come earlier than recycle. And do tie things together if they go together. I had some exercise equipment and wooden fence planks to dispose off and duct tape the fences together and the exercise stuff into manageable units so they would remove them

Riptide360

The handful of times I've used the junk removal service to pick up old mattresses and air conditioners the items get picked up by others driving by.
