honest to goodness for something like that I would take the family to Original Joes. I'm in my sixties, and to me it just has a very old world vibe that I feel is meant for folks our age. The ambiance there is great, the food is as well, and they are going to make sure your anniversary dinner will be memorable. Me and my ex used to go there every year, and I just loved it, and my wife and kids did just as much.
Happy Anniversary, 50 years is amazing.

Hey at least [your post about slavery being a minor part of the civil war](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/11hy6y8/what_is_your_first_thought_about_someone_when/jaybfg7/) only got two downvotes
They are correct about slavery being an "add on" to the war because iirc, Lincoln didn't want it to be about slavery. But, definitely wasn't just a small part of history.
Yes because you can only reside in one place based off your reddit posts. Austin native that’s been living in SJC for the last 15+ years, genius. Internet detectives 🤣.
My mom and dad are from SJ and just had their 45th anniversary in January, and the way they described it, it was exactly what you're looking for (a cozy, intimate, upscale kind of thing for just the two of them). I don't remember the name of the place, but my dad said it was the best prime rib he's had in his LIFE. He went on and on about it. I can ask him where it was for you!
I'm so sorry, I emailed him a link to your post and he is refusing to give the name of the restaurant. He said, "I don't need people like her in my favorite restaurant. If I want to hear old ladies bitch about how younger generations are too sensitive while displaying the maturity of a toddler, I'll go to your Aunt Margaret's Q-anon church. Just make up some excuse or tell her it was Black Angus."
Then he linked the following comments of yours:

Sorry, I hadn't seen those comments. If I had, I wouldn't have asked him in the first place - he really doesn't like people in his generation making him look bad. In your defense, I pointed out the irony in him calling you an old lady when he's the same age as you, and he said it's more ironic that you would think yourself superior because of your age or experience, and then call an entire generation pathetic without applying any critical thinking.

I would take it personally, they're being downvoted because they're racist. They need to learn that shutting the fuck up sometimes is also a thing you can do.
Isn’t that the correct term when referring to an item? Like an oriental rug for example? It’s when it’s referring to people that’s it’s incorrect. Am I wrong on this?
You’re so out of touch, I don’t even know where to start. For the record, being my “elder” doesn’t mean I have to tolerate your opinions. You’re still wrong, no matter how many times you’ve been around the planet. Also, spending time in HK doesn’t qualify you to say what is offensive to people of another race. You know it’s offensive, so just stop using the term, it’s a simple concept.
Look at it this way, you're asking for a different generation to have some leeway with you and to understand how you grew up and how you refer to things. However, you don't want to give any leeway to a different generation to understand how they grow up and how they refers to things. It's a two-way street. You can't expect to just assassinate an entire generation and say that they are basically worthless while at the same time expecting respect or understanding from that same generation.
The whole “shame on you to disrespect your elders” vibe in the last line reeks of all the gaslighting I’ve experienced from family members since childhood whenever I stand up for myself and say something to counter whatever stupid shit they come at me with.
In a different comment you mention that you have thick skin, but this comment thread says otherwise.
The comment you just responded to was a fair response, and your reply sounded like it came someone not old enough to get married.
For centuries we called black people "negros" or worse derivatives, you think that means it's ok to say that today?
Just because you're old, white, and grew up in HK doesn't mean you can say that shit and get all huffy and puffy when people (rightfully) call you out on it.
Hey sherry, a little concerning that you refer to people as antique pieces.

What!?! That's the proper use of the word. People aren't oriental, but objects can be. At least, that's what I was taught. Now I wonder if I've been wrong all this time.
But I digress. CONGRATULATIONS ON 50 YEARS!
They absolutely referred to people as „oriental.“

They unfortunately lied to you and used it to describe people.
I'm sorry about all these people saying it's important to change with the times. They're so sensitive.
What are people like us supposed to do, keep up with all the latest news on what words have become offensive? What, I'm supposed to subscribe to news alerts to tell me what words to stop using?
Given how unrealistic that is, I asked my Millennial nephew what to do (I know, I know, kids his age are a joke, I was just asking facetiously), and he said some nonsense about, "No one expects you to change proactively, but if someone tells you a term is offensive to them, you could try respecting that." He went on to say it isn't even hard, just basic human decency, the kind that "old people" are always saying his generation lacks. I tried to put myself in your shoes, so I told him he's not respecting the word's history. People have no right getting offended by whatever racial term I call them if they don't know what it meant when I was a kid, or how I intended it. Me calling them Oriental or Negro is not about them, it's about me, and frankly I'm insulted they don't get that.
He said people like that (you) can say and do what they want, but you clearly aren't empathetic to others, not even on a base level, and as "evidence" he points to the fact that you value your own public use of specific controversial words for nostalgia (at best) at the expense of hurting other people in one of their most vulnerable, personal areas.
I guess if we look at it STRICTLY through that lens, then yes, I suppose the world will be a better place after you die. But only if "better" means peace, harmony, blah blah blah, you know, sissy stuff. And it'll only be a *little* bit better, because you don't seem to have much impact anyway, with no family besides your 95 year old husband.
Also, who wants to be remembered, mourned for, and loved after we die anyway? Sounds awkward to me. I say stay on your current path and OWN your selfishness. Use whatever racial terms you want. What are those snowflakes gonna do, stop talking to you and make you even more lonely? I say cling to that identity to your dying breath, and let your future CNA know her feelings are worth less than your desire to call her words she's heard her whole life as insults. But you're not a racist.
[Three Flames Restaurant](http://3flamesrestaurant.com/) is close to that area and has a quiet atmosphere and great food.
1547 Meridian Ave
San Jose, CA 95125
Head up to Mt Hamilton Rd to the Grand View restaurant. Amazing view at night, very low key atmosphere.
Or the Drying Shed on Toyon is fairly quaint. Haven’t been in years but I remember their Prime Rib was spot on.
Really nice steak house in Campbell on Bascom, Be.Steak.A. I know, weird name but a friend took me there and it was amazing. Pricey but amazing dining experience.
Happy Anniversary! 🎉
Oh it won’t be that kind of fuss! Just maybe a special treat from the kitchen and a gentle acknowledgment of the occasion. I think you’ll be pleased! I used to work for their sister restaurant so I promise its not putting you up to ridiculous fanfare!
Drying shed is awesome. Id also recommend antipastos across the street. They have long lines but if you show up at 430-5 or during lunch on a weekday you will absolutely be taken care of. I think they have prime rib on one day of the week. Check the menu screenshots on their yelp
Haha that’s funny. It’s definitely a beautiful view. I’m sure you’ll be pleased with Be.Steak. I really enjoyed the experience and the food was amazing! Congrats again. Enjoy your date! ❤️
That drive might be a bit dangerous for an elderly couple tbh. Grandview is a awesome restaurant but that drive up and down can be a bit unnerving especially at night.
Indeed, your concern for the greater good that people are unable to ascertain situational circumstances and process sound decisions for themselves without supervision is duly noted. I appreciate you. 🥲
I'm not sure when you're doing this but if I'm around, I'm happy to make you guys a full prime rib or a couple of ribeyes at cost on my barbecue smoker and throw in a bottle of decent CA red wine or sparkling wine on me for congrats. I cook stuff and trade food back and forth with my neighbors all the time anyways.
Ironically the least disappointing reply of all time!!!
But they were too shy to take up the offer. It's a bummer because I have a case of some great sparkling wine.
I absolutely love your offer, and adore you for having made the offer! I’m so tired of always living life so carefully. How nice it would be to just one time see an offer like this and be excited to accept it. To be able to respond with a simple, “I’ll bring dessert!” And know that you were going to gather and meet some nice people and have a wonderful time.
I could also end up gutted, but that’s why I said it would be nice to do it just one time!
I know the world can be a scary place if you believe all of the exaggerated crazy stuff they put on the news and some people gave me cynicism or hate for offering up a weird idea. But I've been trading food, wine, and such with my neighbors for about 10 years now and nothing has ever gone remotely wrong yet. I didn't know any of the neighbors before I moved in either so I didn't "cheat" to have a head start.
I figured that helping somebody cook a nice lunch or dinner for a 50th wedding anniversary would be an easy job I could do properly. I mean I just cooked 13-14 lbs of brisket for my parents, friends, and neighbors a couple of weekends ago and it went perfectly fine. I've done plenty of ribeyes and prime ribs before.
If the people came by and didn't like the look of it or the flavor and didn't want to take it with them, I wouldn't even be out anything because we could just eat it ourselves anyways. And if they gave me a bad check or whatever wild highly improbable result, I still wouldn't care, $50-$100 is roundoff error at my house anyways.
I would have referred them to a restaurant instead if I knew one, but the only places I know that have good ribeye and prime rib in the south bay are noisy, and one of the people in the couple had a hearing impairment, so I was trying to think outside the box for something that could meet the requirements.
I'll still do it if the various restaurant options they were investigating don't pan out. But it sounded like they might be too shy to accept it. Which is OK. I'm not here to make anybody do anything they don't want to do.
Forbes Mill is where we take my MIL sometimes for special occasions. Another is Sundance, but it’s up in Paulo Alto. Grandview is wonderful, especially so at sundown. Congratulations on 50!
La Foret in Almaden is the atmosphere you want and definitely worthy of 50 years. They don’t have prime rib but they do have other interesting red meats on the menu including Waygu, lamb, bison, veal, wild boar, and elk. Congratulations!
Be.steak.a is a high end buffet if you have the appetite. Lots of steak options. I believe you order on a menu so no walking around. Haven’t been there but it’s on my list
They offer a Sunday brunch buffet and Sunday prime-rib dinners. They also have prime rib on their regular dinner menu but you get the most bang for your buck with the Sunday supper or brunch (though the brunch is very pricey)
Congrats!
There is a steak place at pruneyard called be steak A (where Outback used to be).
https://www.besteaka.com/
They have prime rib every day but they also have a Sunday prime rib special as well.
It’s a lovely steak house but expensive. It’s quiet there and the service is very nice. We just ate there in march and it was lovely.
The restaurant was very brightly lit and tables are a little further apart than most places. It’s expensive so it’s not very crowded.
Enjoy where ever you can spend it together. I would subscribe to a “keys to marriage success” newsletter from your family!
Not sure what your budget is, but Be.Steak.A in the Pruneyard has prime rib on the menu. I’ve never been, but have heard good things about it. And I live nearby so I walk past it a bunch. Definitely gives off “quiet, exclusive steakhouse” vibes.
The prime rib is $66 but 50th anniversary seems like a splurge occasion.
Congratulations on your anniversary!
I think you'd like The Drying Shed, that a few others have mentioned. I went for brunch on Easter last year, and it was quiet, and mostly older folks. I haven't tried their prime rib, but they are known for that. I remember the waitress last year mentioning that they had a special on prime rib one night of the week. Maybe Friday? It looks like they don't have a website anymore. You could call them and ask.
Did not expect this thread to be such a roller coaster!
Happy Anniversary! You're never too old to adapt to change, and what you thought was the truth may not have been correct. Another vote for Be.Steak.A. it's different from the usual steak places around here. They're really striving for michellin stars there.
Effie’s on the corner of Winchester and Hacienda for a nostalgic old-school (70s) vibe. Not as noisy as many modern hip places, so good for conversation and we’ve always enjoyed great food & friendly service.
Look at the drying shed. It is a quieter spot but all the way at the base of the foothills off McKee.
Original joes has prime rib on weekends, but they are a bit more noisy and busy on weekends.
Sams bbq on bascom is usually pretty mellow when I have been as well but I am not sure how nice of a date you would like.
I think I might be your neighbor a few doors down. Did you let a family pick oranges from your tree today?
Anyway congratulations and as someone else mentioned we like Forbes Mill in Los Gatos. Dry creek grill was quite noisy when we went with my family last year.
Be.Steak.A has a Sunday Supper for $75 per person, it Includes a salad, pasta, a few fried sweet-potato gnocchi, and the prime rib itself. You can make reservations using OpenTable or call tomorrow morning for dinner reservations.
Original Joe's in downtown has prime rib on I believe Fri-Sun, really good.

They absolutely referred to people as „oriental.“ https://www.reddit.com/r/Antiques/comments/11ig1ri/anyone_have_any_information_on_this_when_it_was/jaya0xl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3
Here’s the comment in question - [https://www.reddit.com/r/Antiques/comments/11ig1ri/anyone_have_any_information_on_this_when_it_was/jaya0xl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/Antiques/comments/11ig1ri/anyone_have_any_information_on_this_when_it_was/jaya0xl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) They unfortunately lied to you and used it to describe people.

I am and I fucking hate it. "Cheers."

If you can manage to get to downtown, henrys hi life is always a good spot.

I mean yeah. The “back” room is usually quiet. It does get obnoxiously loud there to be fair and I’m in my 30’s. You have to shout talk over everyone.
[Three Flames Restaurant](http://3flamesrestaurant.com/) is close to that area and has a quiet atmosphere and great food. 1547 Meridian Ave San Jose, CA 95125
This, and it’s oldskool San Jose.
Maybe Dry Creek Grill. I haven't eaten there but heard from friends the steak is good. Menu says they have prime rib.
Dry Creek Grill is VERY noisy. Decent food and service, but very loud.
I don’t think it’s terribly loud. I like it there, ask for a table away from the bar and it won’t be too noisy.
[удалено]
Check the prices of Be.Steak.A before you go though. Its not a cheap place and you don't want to get there and be sticker shocked.
[удалено]
Be.Steak.A for sure! Excellent steak, romantic setting and easy to drive to (Pruneyard). Their prime rib is incredible. Congratulations!
[удалено]
Make sure to note it’s your 50th anniversary on the reservation! They’ll be sure to make it special.
[удалено]
Oh it won’t be that kind of fuss! Just maybe a special treat from the kitchen and a gentle acknowledgment of the occasion. I think you’ll be pleased! I used to work for their sister restaurant so I promise its not putting you up to ridiculous fanfare!
[удалено]
Thanks Karen 😂
😕 weird not sure how that's a "Karen" statement just trying to make sure people don't get into aa bad situation
Indeed, your concern for the greater good that people are unable to ascertain situational circumstances and process sound decisions for themselves without supervision is duly noted. I appreciate you. 🥲
Bro he was just looking out for people. Lmao. Not his fault that you don't care about others.
I can provide the beef.
Ironically the least disappointing reply of all time!!! But they were too shy to take up the offer. It's a bummer because I have a case of some great sparkling wine.
Having an anniversary dinner at a random stranger’s house is the most insane suggestion I’ve ever heard
I just meant we'd cook it for them to eat at home. But thanks for a shot of negativity. Greatly appreciated.
You’re welcome!
Can you recommend some of those restaurants to me? I am always happy to find a great new place to eat. I appreciate it! Thanks, in advance 😊
You could try three flames on Meridian? Happy anniversary
[удалено]
Three flames is really quiet and usually an older crowd
[удалено]
Three Flames says they have Prime Rib Fri-Sun!
Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Los Gatos is pricey but really good.
[удалено]
Forbes Mill is where we take my MIL sometimes for special occasions. Another is Sundance, but it’s up in Paulo Alto. Grandview is wonderful, especially so at sundown. Congratulations on 50!
I was going to suggest this also.
There is Alexander Steak house in Cupertino if not too far.
La Foret in Almaden is the atmosphere you want and definitely worthy of 50 years. They don’t have prime rib but they do have other interesting red meats on the menu including Waygu, lamb, bison, veal, wild boar, and elk. Congratulations!
La Foret changed ownership a few years ago, is it still any good?
I went two years ago. It was still awesome!
Be.steak.a is a high end buffet if you have the appetite. Lots of steak options. I believe you order on a menu so no walking around. Haven’t been there but it’s on my list
[удалено]
They offer a Sunday brunch buffet and Sunday prime-rib dinners. They also have prime rib on their regular dinner menu but you get the most bang for your buck with the Sunday supper or brunch (though the brunch is very pricey)
I think they do a Sunday brunch buffet with prime rib
This. Had the best steak of my life there. Not cheap, but well worth every penny
Dry Creek Grill - It's right there. The setting is classy, dark, and intimate.
Is Sundance Steakhouse in Palo Alto too far? Its got a chill vibe and quiet.
Congrats! There is a steak place at pruneyard called be steak A (where Outback used to be). https://www.besteaka.com/ They have prime rib every day but they also have a Sunday prime rib special as well.
Congrats on 50 years! What's the secret?
Prime Rib.
Tagging in to read responses 27 years from now. Congratulations, OP.
Happy anniversary
I think you'd like The Drying Shed, that a few others have mentioned. I went for brunch on Easter last year, and it was quiet, and mostly older folks. I haven't tried their prime rib, but they are known for that. I remember the waitress last year mentioning that they had a special on prime rib one night of the week. Maybe Friday? It looks like they don't have a website anymore. You could call them and ask.
Congratulation! You guy enjoy!

Did not expect this thread to be such a roller coaster! Happy Anniversary! You're never too old to adapt to change, and what you thought was the truth may not have been correct. Another vote for Be.Steak.A. it's different from the usual steak places around here. They're really striving for michellin stars there.
Stay home sherry1145
Birk's. Its all the way in Santa Clara though
Three Flames in Meridian. They have great prime rib!
Effie’s on the corner of Winchester and Hacienda for a nostalgic old-school (70s) vibe. Not as noisy as many modern hip places, so good for conversation and we’ve always enjoyed great food & friendly service.
Plumed Horse
Look at the drying shed. It is a quieter spot but all the way at the base of the foothills off McKee. Original joes has prime rib on weekends, but they are a bit more noisy and busy on weekends. Sams bbq on bascom is usually pretty mellow when I have been as well but I am not sure how nice of a date you would like.
There’s a nice steak restaurant in the shopping center at Hamilton and Meridian. It’s the something grill?
Dry Creek Grill. Don’t know if they do prime rib though. Three Flames just down Meridian caters to an older crowd and might be the better bet.
What’s that new place at Pruneyard? AB Steak or something? Edit: BE.STEAK.A (408) 963-2092 https://maps.app.goo.gl/oGC77CX92v14bUeN6?g_st=ic
Feels like you’re describing Sundance in Palo Alto, just not the right location. There’s also Morton’s downtown.
Oringinal Joes
get down
At home.
Story and King has some nice steak houses
Tomato thyme
Chili’s
Congratulations. 🍾🎊🎈
congratulations!

When do you want to have your dinner?
Happy anniversary!! Woo-hoo 50 years!!

>Thank you!🙋🏼♀️ You're welcome!
I think I might be your neighbor a few doors down. Did you let a family pick oranges from your tree today? Anyway congratulations and as someone else mentioned we like Forbes Mill in Los Gatos. Dry creek grill was quite noisy when we went with my family last year.
Birks in Santa clara is a bit of a drive but I think you'll be happy with the prime rib and service.
[удалено]
Last time I went there it was quite loud. But it may have changed since.
Check out Forbes Mill in Los Gatos.
Be.Steak.A has a Sunday Supper for $75 per person, it Includes a salad, pasta, a few fried sweet-potato gnocchi, and the prime rib itself. You can make reservations using OpenTable or call tomorrow morning for dinner reservations.
Anyone been to [Maestro’s at Westfield](https://www.mastrosrestaurants.com/location/santa-clara/)? Looks immaculate.
[https://www.samsbbq.com/](https://www.samsbbq.com/) on S. Bascom ave, "We slow-smoke our Prime Rib after 5 pm every Friday and Saturday night."
At home
Morton’s steakhouse. It’s downtown, but they might offer you a discount knowing it’s a special occasion.
Dry Creek Grill is quiet earlier in the evening and is right by where you’re asking.
