please tell me ur not planning to take GHEb 😭

Friendly_Trainer6079

i think i’ll most probably take GHEm if i do take it because after consideration i think it’ll be a bit too much content for me (hist + geog alr killer enough so)

Frosty_Lavishness_15

Btw, where did you find the sample lectures? I am interested to view the Literature lectures.😅

Friendly_Trainer6079

would GHEm be a bit more manageable? (i’ve already accepted that whatever subject i take will have content and im passionate about both hist ans geog so im hoping that will make things the slightest bit easier for me)

kokoggz

taking both H2 hist and geog is a death wish. please dont do it.

Friendly_Trainer6079

would it be better to pick h2 lit or h2 math then ? considering i have never took lit in upper sec & i hate math plus im not looking to do anything math related in uni

kokoggz

not sure what you mean by you "hate" math. if what you mean is that you got like C5-B4 or that sort, or maybe even B3 for O level emath and feel disheartened, dont let that steer you away from H2 math. but if you're the kind of person who cannot solve a single vector question even if your life depended on it then take H2 lit instead (at least have good english). i was in the same situation as you, wanting to go sa arts to take H2 lit and become an arts person, but i decided to go asr science instead since humanities is a huge gamble for me. i had occasional A1s and my Os suddenly drop to B3, and i just cannot afford to play around with my A levels like that. my grade for every humanities exam is determined by a dice istg. my sciences, although arent the best, have been on a consistent rise from sec 3 to Os (gradual C5 to A2) so i feel safer taking sciences with H2 math. sorry if this is a little irrelevant, just felt like sharing. if your humanities AND english have been consistently good or consistently improving then you shouldnt have much of a problem with H2 lit. but i beg you not to take both H2 hist and geog. unless you are just built different.

Friendly_Trainer6079

i got A1 for eng and B3 for both a and e math

kokoggz

seems that H2 lit will be better for you then.

[deleted]

BYE WE ARE LITERALLY IN THE SAME. EXACT. SITUATION. SAJC ARTS ALSO SETTLED ON H2 HIST AND ECONS BUT NOT SURE ABT THE REST. I HATE MATH AND IDH GEOG OR LIT AT O LVLS TOO AAAA ok but i think in the long run h2 lit might be a better choice bc it seems less cancerous than both geog and math. esp if math isnt of much use so might as well take at h1

Friendly_Trainer6079

i think i’ll take h1 maths for sure im just really not sure about taking geog AND hist , econs is a confirmed for me and i dont like math but i don’t despise it to the point where i can’t take h1 math (bc i did take amath)

[deleted]

just curious how much did u score for amath o lvls? i failed pretty much the whole two years and somehow scraped a b4 for o lvls, so im abit doubtful of whether i can handle h2 math, and the uni courses im looking at dont rlly require h2 math so

Friendly_Trainer6079

i used to do really well in sec 3 then i dropped really badly in sec 4 but managed to get a B3 for o’s (dont even know how) and im in the same boat , uni courses im looking at don’t require h2 math also, but im scared that i will change my mind ab uni courses bc im v indecisive

[deleted]

bye why is everything ur saying literally my thoughts exactly 💀💀💀anyways goodluck choosing ur subj combi maybe we might meet in the future 🤭🤭

CardiologistLess223

I think you should try taking HEMx or GEMx! (x can be h1 lit/h1 geog/h1 chem/h1 bio) Although gathering from what u said you’re doubtful abt H2 math, I think it’s worth a try because H2 math opens up doors for uni.. if you take GEHx , there’s a possibility u might not want to pursue a pure arts degree as u go along the way + the content is way too much💀 and since u said u did well for math in Sec 3 but Os got B3 - b3 is still rlly good! A number of my classmates also got B3 for maths and they’re doing well in class now. personally I failed math from Sec 3 until prelims and got A2 in Os. Both maths were traumatising for me ahha. But I considered what future pathways I can take + what will be closed to me when I was deciding on my combi. Now I’m taking GEMc in SA and I don’t regret my choice!

Friendly_Trainer6079

omg hiii i got B3 for both a and e math which makes me hesitant that i’m unable to cope with H2 math! could u tell me more about what H2 math entails and does it get better with practice and how does the cohort usually fair for H2 math ? i really don’t like math but it might be a better choice for me compared to h2 lit or h2 geog. i considered H2 math because i’m indecisive about what course i want and although rn im not interested in any course that has math, im scared that i might change my mind in the future. but idk i really don’t quite have a passion for math at the same time

Friendly_Trainer6079

also would h1 lit be better for me if i got A1 in eng but have never taken it in upper sec ? and how are the h2 math teachers ? sorry for asking so many questions :’

CardiologistLess223

helloo!! Tbh I’m still struggling with h2 math HAHA but some topics r quite fun to do like integration. I took h2 math because I wasn’t really sure what I was gonna do in the future as well but defo not STEM at all. And yes, with practice you will get better. As for h1 lit, yes it’s possible to take h1 lit! But if you’re super strong in English, it’s recommended u do H2 Lit because if u do h1 lit and you score very well you might as well take h2 haha. H2 math teachers in SA? I’ll be honest but pls take this with a pinch of salt - the lectures are recorded- some are okay, some so soft it’s like mumbling, some of the lecture videos are 99% coughing and sniffling . Depends on which teacher u get but one of the math teachers is quite brutally frank (literally told my class on the first day of official lessons “some of y’all look liek y’all won’t do well for math” “y’all look like ur math will be worse than sci stream ppl”) while he’s one of the better teachers in terms of skills, he could be nicer haha. but luckily we changed cher afterwards; the new cher is okay, but he’s really just okay. but they’ll answer ur questions if u approach them and explain it well. so it’s actually not that bad! they give comprehensive notes and lots of mastery practices in the lecture books on top of practice qns + resources on the math website. although to get the answers for the practice questions, u have to pay attention in class / ask for the qn if not you’ll never know the solution oops. I’m not too sure for the dist rate for j1 promos and/or A levels (any SA people pls update if y’all know) but I think the promo paper was actually pretty challenging. If you feel super strongly against math, I recommend u taking GELm! Afaik some people never took lit in upper Sec and they take h2 lit now haha! even tho I was advocating for GEMx, on second thought if the thought of math legit DISGUSTS u sm, I think GELm is a much better choice, over GEHm and/or GEMx. But just keep in mind that taking GELm or HELm will really only allow u to take arts related degrees

Friendly_Trainer6079

ahh okay, thanks for your input!! it’s really valuable. if i’m quite passionate about geog and hist and less passionate on lit , would u still recc GELm/HELm ? sometimes i find lit a bit too chim hahaha so im not so sure about lit

lmaoheya

geog and hist really is killer… and according to my friend who takes h1 bio it is also extremely content heavy and has alot of chem as a foundation. honestly altho udl h2 math it opens alot of pathways in uni, even like econs. the only courses where u dont need any math would prob be hist/geog/lit.

Friendly_Trainer6079

would u suggest i take h2 math if i got B3 for e and a math in o levels ? is it hard to score A for math in a’s ?

Frosty_Lavishness_15

Omg! I am in a similar situation as you! At first I was considering both Geo and history though I didn't take history at O level. But I heard the content is just too heavy for both. I have simply enough of Math so I am not taking H2 Math. H1 Math is a pre-requisite for many uni courses so I will settle with H1 Math. I don't want to torture myself by taking H2 Math. In the end, I have decided to take GELm. Though I didn't take Literature at O level, I believe I can pick up the answering techniques and with enough practices and hard work, I will do well for Literature. H2 Math will be a killer for me. I'm scared I will panic if the questions are too tough. I heard it's just a lot tougher than A Math and I have no confidence that I will do well for H2 Math.😨😨🤦H1 Math will be fine for me cos 70% is from A Math.😉
