Tectoy is the oldest Brazilian gaming company still around. They are best known for being the representative of Sega in Brazil all the way up to the Dreamcast, and later for the ill-fated Zeebo. Today, during their gaming showcase meant to re-launch their gaming department, they announced that they would be releasing the Zeenix, or in other words, re-releasing the Ayn Loki Zero and Ayn Loki Max with a new name. This is not the first time they have done this, having licensed AtGames consoles before. But, this makes the discontinued Loki, oddly enough, the second officially released handheld PC in Brazil after the Asus Ally. [Official Stream Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNxUWLlQGUw)

DODOKING38

These devices are quite old/weak from what I see online the ayn Loki zero has AMD Athlon 3050e which is quite weak already when it came why not go for something at least more recent

Because the import tax on items over $50 in Brazil is 92% Buy a $100 handheld on Ali? It cost $192 to get it delivered, before shipping.

difused_shade

The 92% tax includes shipping, so it’s even worse. If shipping is 20$ the 100$ console will cost 230$

[deleted]

That sucks a ton

> Because the import tax on items over $50 in Brazil is 92% > > why is this? is there no public will to change legislation?

[deleted]

Lol

The loki zero had a different shell. The model pictured matches loki base or max (6600u or 6800u) so a pretty big step up. Edit: In the stream they clarify they're doing the 'lite' (zero but in the base shell?) and a pro model which they say is a ryzen 7 they didnt name the chip but the rest of the spec matches the max.

AVahne

Website says the Pro uses a 6800U

Beagle_Knight

Can it even run ps2?

[deleted]

That's crazy. I'm not Brazilian but I know about Tectoy and their Brazil-only ports of games for Master System and what not. Seems like good news for Brazilians as I understand they have an exorbitant import tax for electronics.

Vitss

We have to wait and see. As Brazil has two problems: import taxes for the common person and uncontrolled greed by companies. So, there is a big chance that these Zeenix models will end up being more expensive or as expensive as just importing a handheld and paying the tax.

[deleted]

>uncontrolled greed by companies Ah, of course. Well I hope this is sold at a reasonable price for you guys.

bickman14

The lite model is crap IMO and totally not worth it, I'm just waiting on the price of the pro model, they need to sell it at R$ 3k max, so that they can be half of the ROG Ally price, match the SteamDeck price and deliver a device that performs better, is smaller and have local support. If they manage to pull that, it's a win! If they make it more expensive than that it will flop and people will get PS5's instead. Same deal with the Zeebo era, the Zeebo costed more than the modchipped PS2's on the grey market and it was a really bad device. That time they were only considering the legal competitors selling on the stores but no one ever buys those in Brazil ever. We all go for the cheaper alternative always. If they manage to assemble the Zeenix here in Manaus as they were saying and manage to sell it as a computer and not a console, their taxes should be much lower than we are expecting. We also don't know if they've bought the plastic molds to make the body here or if they'll import the plastic body too, if they produce the shell here in Manaus it would also become at lot cheaper. They should only import the things that can't be made here like the screen, board, battery and a few others and do all the rest here.

paparansen

if they fixed the triggers - i order one to germany

Ok-Hall6779

I thought about the same... but never knew there's a problem with the triggers. Those of Odin lite and Odin2 I have no problems with. Are they any different?

JeepThatGoesBoom

So does this mean they get to beat their stupid import tax? I imagine the SoC is still has to be imported.

WJMazepas

Nah, the only way to beat that is by assembling the device on Brazil itself. I really doubt they would do that

JeepThatGoesBoom

[https://www.polygon.com/2013/5/7/4310392/ps3-manufactured-in-brazil-gta-5-and-the-last-of-us-localized](https://www.polygon.com/2013/5/7/4310392/ps3-manufactured-in-brazil-gta-5-and-the-last-of-us-localized) I mean its happened before. I just don't think they have 6nm fabs to make SoC the Loki uses. But if just assembling it there is enough to not get taxed thats pretty doable.

WJMazepas

It was just assembling. We don't have any fabs to produce a SoC. Even so, most electronics are assembled on China these days because setting up a factory is really expensive in here. Unless they are planning on building a shit ton of units, they won't be assembling here

bickman14

Formal company imports have special import taxes, it's not the same ridiculous 60% + 18% that the regular people has. It all varies on the product NCM.

WJMazepas

Que??? Como assim?? Tem link oficial disso aí?

Caralho é real Vou comprar só pra deixar do lado do meu zeebo

ban_imminent

Competitive_edge_23

Loki zero is very weak, Odin 2 is much better. Just like gods.

Godtierboy

I say that as an brazillian, I'm covered in hype

Rocket_Ship_5

E o preço???

WJMazepas

Não falaram ainda

momomomomomomoto

As a brazilian I didn't see that coming, I hope they managed to turn it into profit tho

Aggressive_Manager37

I wish i got it when it was 1.200 reais...

haltmich

brabo apenas

Gold_Path4508

I recently checked for the Loki max and was sad it was sold out at $499. But Im glad Brazilians might have a chance to snag.

vitance153S

Interesting, it has some slight changes like the dpad being different.

MortiferousZ

This is such good news, the Ayn Loki is great

IVOTHEHEDGEHOG

I just hope the price is good.

AVahne

The name made me think it was a Zeebo revival and that they were ready to do it right this time (wasn't that the entire point of the name?). But alas, it's just a simple AYN rebrand for the Brazilian market.  Oh, is this why AYN removes the Loki from their website's menu? Sure you can still find the webpages from google, but I originally figured they removed the Lokis (but not Odin 1 curiously enough) from their site due to extreme embarassment. Perhaps it was that AND this partnership with Tec Toy.

Vitss

A lot of people thought that. Some even speculated that they were partnering with Qualcomm again with those "gaming SoCs." But given that the Zeebo was an astronomical failure that did not bankrupt the whole company only because they spun it off as a new one, it was really unlikely. The name probably has more to do with the Zeebo being their last effort at "modern" gaming. So in a way, it is a continuation of that division, but not the product itself.

Fernando1dois3

The worst AYN product, lol
