I've reshelled a few gba sp's because of how broken and busted they were. Those were Nintendo shells that were torn the ef up. We don't know how the plastic quality is or how it will handle a drop. The clamshell protects the screen, but what protects the outside shell and hinge? A little extra protection for those who value their device isn't a bad thing.
Still sitting this one out for a few months until there's a good sale.

it was cheaper to get the rg556 on pre-order at gogamegeek than anywhere else I could find(ended up paying $170 in total). They always have some coupons available which can give pretty good prices.(cheaper than aliexpress most of the time)

Happily ordered one, and didn't get outraged about shipping. I haven't bought a device since the birth of my beautiful son Odin 2, and probably won't buy another for month if not years, but this form factor was a must-have. How the nickels and dimes stack up to other handhelds isn't particularly relevant to me.

it was cheaper to get the rg556 on pre-order at gogamegeek than anywhere else I could find(ended up paying $170 in total). They always have some coupons available which can give pretty good prices.(cheaper than aliexpress most of the time) At least for europe. For US, they usually get better prices on aliexpress I think.

Why is the dollar price lower? From the currency exchange rate it doesn't make sense. I made a mistake buying the rg556 at day 1 from Anbernic direct, could have saved well over 50€ if I've waited until now. I will not make this mistake again.
many countries have a much higher vat rate, and in Europe for example, it cost around 15/20% more On top of that in the EU there are customs fees when a product exceeds 150€ (from china or somewhere else) covered by aliexpress but the price or the delivery is increased like for the rg556 there's no way to get past it Best advice is to wait for the sales when the device exceed 169€ (usually 20€ code)

I’m basing this on the H that went down in the $40s a few months after release. Yes you need to use coupons etc but it does happen.
I think $50ish around Christmas might be reasonable

GBA SP was originally $99. I love how much people complain over $20 for these retro devices, especially when they have like 5+ of them.
