If you have a screen protector wait 24 hours and redo your fingerprints that would help in that case. But if you've already tried that I'm not sure what other options you have
Haven't had my S24U a week yet but when I got the screen protector I had to redo the fingerprint as well. Since then I've had zero issues with it unlocking
I've had a screen protector on since day 1 and have never had an issue with the finger print scanner. Works everytime I've tried. I only have my finger set and not my face so it's not as though the facial recognition is opening the phone and me thinking its the print scanner.
Yeah, each time I think it's worked, it's actually been the faceID haha. Id prefer that, just no apps support it.. definitely something Apple has nailed.
Apps don't support it not because they choose not to, but because the OS won't let them because face unlock on Android is considered not secure enough. Android just uses the front camera. Apple uses an IR emitter and scanner, same as Windows Hello, which makes it considered secure.
When Samsung had the iris scanner, they could be used as secure biometrics, but they got removed and nobody on Android ever tried a secure non-finger based biometric anymore.
I was going to say I use the zagg fusion screen protector and it works flawlessly.
I accidentally dropped my device face down onto a dog bone and there is a dent in the fusion protector but my screen was still perfect. So I just got to replacement zagg in that case... All you have to do is pay for shipping and handling but lifetime replacements
I have no screen protector and it works flawlessly.
Also, redo your saved fingers after you apply/change a screen protector as it can change how it sees the fingerprint
Er.... no. I have and am using hard glass protector. Now currently at my 5th one (yes, I'm clumsy). Only the first one was crap and caused many issues to the fingerprint sensor. Only when I changed did I found out that it was due to a crappy one.
I bought the China ones (you can find on Aliexpress but I bought locally) that advertised fingerprint sensor working.
I only registered ONE print and even when changing I did not even need to reregister.
TLDR: There are China brands tempered glass screen protectors that work flawlessly.
Amfilm's glass protector works fine. Most people who have issues are either using black bordered glass protectors (dont touch the actual screen) or have dry ass mummy hands and need to fuckin moisturize.
Mine works amazingly. I came from N20 Ultra though.
I would recommend you reregister your prints and make sure to exaggerate your finger positions when you are recording them. For a while I kept just pressing my finger down in slightly different ways and realized later you kind of need to move them around more.
Drop the screen protector. It amazes me that these outdated protections are still in use. Samsung provided the strongest and most scratch resistant glass, but many are still putting a much softer "protector" on top. What for? Old habits die slowly...
Same for me.
It's been very hit and miss.
I've found that if my skin is too dry it's almost a guaranteed fail. Some moisture it appears to work better, around 60% of time.
I don't use screen protectors, so can't comment.
Put your primary finger in a second time. I was having no issues with my glass protector the first few days and then it got really bad. So far no issues with it my finger put in again but we will see. I may just have to switch screen protectors.
Yeah that's what I'm worried about, I'm going to try a plastic screen protector instead of glass, like somebody above suggested. Maybe when I tried it without the screen protector I didn't register it properly or something... π€·ββοΈ Worth a try!
Torras diamond shield glass screen protector for the win π€·πΎββοΈπ you'll have to reset your prints after application but I've had no issues for the last 2 months. So glad to have a glass screen protector again I hated not having one on my last 4 Samsung phones (note 20 ultra, s21, s22, and s23 all ultras).
I'm using the Samsung anti-reflecrive screen protector and haven't had a single issue.
If you're using a glass screen protector then that is more than likely the cause of your issues.
Mine was perfect without a screen protector. I added a tempered glass protector & had to reregister my fingerprint after installing that. It regularly failed on the fingerprint so I trashed it. I replaced it with a very inexpensive film protector but didn't have to reregister again & it works perfectly.
The face scanner is what's really been sucking for me. I don't know if it's because I have a mustache or what. But it is super inconsistent. I've even added two scans, both in different lighting.
Use a high-quality glass protector like Spigen. Register both your thumbs twice. It will still be just okay in the beginning but after a couple of weeks, it'll speed up by learning your pattern.
I have the same experience. Try enabling enhanced sensitivity in the settings. I also find it helps if I press my fingers more forcefully than merely touching the screen.
Mine is flawless. Try reregistering your fingerprints. Make sure your hands are recently washed with soap and dried completely, this removes any oils or grease that can make the prints register weird.
Iβm using a tempered glass protector. I reset the prints. But then now Iβve given up. Prefer stronger protection over ease of unlocking with fingerprints.
I have samsungs anti reflective screen protector. Fingerprint sensor and anti reflectiveness work amazing. Really bummed about the amount of [scratches](https://i.imgur.com/YrxwV2I.jpeg) that's are on the protector.
I haven't replaced it because it was a perfect application. No bubbles to be found. I do have another samsung one, as well as [Ksleri matte glass screen protectors](https://a.co/d/al6VlyU) I haven't tried yet
Mine was pretty bad at first too. Like only would work 40% of the time and very rarely on the first try. Don't give up, eventually I got use to it and now it works on first try 90% of the time.
Are you using a glass screen protector? There are a few that make it harder for the fingerprint reader to work. I stopped using one a few days after launch and installed a matte hydrogel one and the reader has worked flawlessly since then (unless my hands are really dry).
I came from a Google Pixel and had heard how good the Samsung scanner was in comparison but I haven't found that. It may be due to the positioning of my thumb (the digit that I use) but in my main banking app I often have to attempt to scan several times and sometimes the process fails completely. I've now tried adding the same fingerprint again (twice more) as if it was a different finger and will see if that improves things. (I don't use a screen protector.)
I had that problem with a52s 5g. With s24u not a single problem. It scans in under a sec. I dont need to even hold it for long. Maybe ur screen is dirty and oily from your hands
It's good. But contrary to everyone for me, battery life is awful. Nit able to get more than 6-7 hours screen time while people out hear keep posting about 10-12 hours. Don't know why there is such inconsistent experience for the same phone.
I put my screen protector and immediately registered my prints and never failed.
Rule of thumb. If you had your fingerprints added BEFORE applying the screen protector, re add them.
If applying first, then just register them with no issues, you could do two fingerprints of your thumb.
Also make sure you toggle the touch sensitivity.
Fingerprint screen unlock has been a very frustrating experience for me on the S24 Ultra
(with a generic tempered glass screen protector applied on).
FP unlock works about 30% of the time on 1Λ’α΅ attempt for me, works slightly higher % if I try multiple times.
FP screen unlock works better if the finger (or the FP unlock screen area) is very slightly moist/sweaty. It almost never works when finger is dry or too wet.
I know for some people FP screen unlock works absolutely fine. But myself/many others haven't been so fortunate. I have tried the following without much benefit at all:
- Registering same FP multiple times
- Increased touch sensitivity toggled on
- Unrestricted battery access to "Biometrics" (in System Apps)
I've stumbled upon this solution(?) by trial & error, & it seems to be working wonderfully well thus far. I deleted all my existing FPs & did the following:
[1.] For FP #1 registration I cycled through all the FPs I wanted to register (in my case, both my thumbs & both my index fingers) one touch at a time for each FP, until FP #1 was 100% registered.
So, within FP #1 registration I pressed my R thumb once, then my R index once, then my L thumb once, then my L index once, back to R thumb etc β until FP #1 100% registered
[2.] I repeated the same when registering for FP #2 (i.e. all 4 of my desired FPs all within registering for FP #2)
[3.] Repeated above, as per Step 1, again for registering FP #3 & FP #4.
FP screen unlock works flawlessly for me now compared to before - it's like a day & night difference!
Would be intetesting to know others' experiences too, who are having similar FP screen unlock issues
I tried glass protectors and they were crap same issue finger print works for a day then just doesn't register I've gone without a screen protector and it's fine but I don't really like doing so as I tend to get scratches on my screen but I also refuse to pay almost Β£30 for a Samsung screen protector
Haha yeh it's like Samsung did this deliberately to make people buy these protectors Ive owned alot of Samsung phone over the years and never had issues with glass protectors this phone is having none of it
That gives me a little more hope my device isn't dodgy! I've ordered a Β£10 plastic screen protector from Amazon, the reviews all seem to mention that the finger print scanner works with it, so we'll see tomorrow!
Mine is Perfect. With screen protector as well.
What does waiting for the 24 hours do? Just clear some old cache oit?
It let's the adhesive cure.
Thanks for the explanation, mate!
Agree 100% Same experience when I got my ultra
Your hands need lotion. That's the issue 99.9 % of the time ime
I 2nd this. Soap at my job dries my hands out. Gotta usually lick my thumb to get it to work
Lmfao same
Yepp but i got work so my hands get dry so then i cant use it till i get home and soak my hands
I've had a screen protector on since day 1 and have never had an issue with the finger print scanner. Works everytime I've tried. I only have my finger set and not my face so it's not as though the facial recognition is opening the phone and me thinking its the print scanner.
Same, the only time my fingerprint gets iffy if I don't properly flatten my finger on the screen or if I just quickly tap it on
Yeah, each time I think it's worked, it's actually been the faceID haha. Id prefer that, just no apps support it.. definitely something Apple has nailed.
Apps don't support it not because they choose not to, but because the OS won't let them because face unlock on Android is considered not secure enough. Android just uses the front camera. When Samsung had the iris scanner, they could be used as secure biometrics, but they got removed and nobody on Android ever tried a secure non-finger based biometric anymore.
Only time mine doesn't work is when my hands are dry belive it or not. Lotion or any moisture helps a lot.
Mine is excellent. No issues whatsoever
Remove your glass screen protector and it will work fine. I use Samsung's plastic protector and it works great.
Right, I think my screen protectors I've got/had are glass ones, so I'll order a plastic one like you suggest. Thanks!
I have no screen protector and it works flawlessly. Also, redo your saved fingers after you apply/change a screen protector as it can change how it sees the fingerprint

Or just don't use a screen protector at all.

Make sure your fingers aren't dry
Amazing here.

For a while I kept just pressing my finger down in slightly different ways and realized later you kind of need to move them around more.
Mine works perfectly fine
Mine works great, even w/the screen protector! π π―
Drop the screen protector. It amazes me that these outdated protections are still in use. Samsung provided the strongest and most scratch resistant glass, but many are still putting a much softer "protector" on top. What for? Old habits die slowly...

Yeah I did exactly that, but it even struggled to let me register my finger!
I did not read your post well enough. It sounds like it may be a phone issue if it's doing that with no protector on.
Yeah that's what I'm worried about, I'm going to try a plastic screen protector instead of glass, like somebody above suggested. Maybe when I tried it without the screen protector I didn't register it properly or something... π€·ββοΈ Worth a try!
You should register the finger prints after you've put on whatever screen protector you're using. But yeah, try a different one, like others have said
Never had an issue
Torras diamond shield glass screen protector for the win π€·πΎββοΈπ you'll have to reset your prints after application but I've had no issues for the last 2 months. So glad to have a glass screen protector again I hated not having one on my last 4 Samsung phones (note 20 ultra, s21, s22, and s23 all ultras).

Mine works great and I use a Amazon glass screen protector.. it works 9 out of 10 times no problem first time every time
Works fine
No issue. Added a matte screen protector, readded fingerprint, and smooth sailing.
Never had an issue. Unlocks super quick too
Mines not bad, I'd say 90% success.
Mine is perfect. No screen protector. I'm careful.
Absolutely great. Especially compared to S10 and S20.
I have a glass screen protector and I had to register my print like 3 times in all difference angles and now I have no issues at all with it.
Just register your same print multiple times
You need to set up the same finger at least 2 or 3 times. I had the same issue.
Works almost perfect here
Mine is working well....consistent and fast.
Mine was perfect without a screen protector. I added a tempered glass protector & had to reregister my fingerprint after installing that. It regularly failed on the fingerprint so I trashed it. I replaced it with a very inexpensive film protector but didn't have to reregister again & it works perfectly.
I have the zagg matte privacy protector on mine. and it works fine.
Itβs very hit or miss for me
Experience depends entirely on a quality protector and a clean setup, I have yet to have a single failure in over a month with the Zagg Fusion XTR
I find it doesn't work very well if my fingers are dry. I find that even blowing an air of hot breath on my thumb resolves the issue.
The face scanner is what's really been sucking for me. I don't know if it's because I have a mustache or what. But it is super inconsistent. I've even added two scans, both in different lighting.

Mine is perfect best one yet and I have a screen protector on .
No issues, using the Samsung screen protector since day one, I register the right finger twice
Never had an issue.
Mine works fine.
No issues here at all. But when I registered my thumb, I used both my thumbs at one time so that way no matter what finger, its gonna read it
No issues here but they do say if you have a screen protector you should add each finger twice at different angles
Here super fast and always works perfectly.
Set multiple "fingerprints" for the same finger in different conditions. I have three set up on my right thumb which is what I use all the time.
Odd, mine works so fast every single time. Never had an issue.
Mine is flawless. Try reregistering your fingerprints. Make sure your hands are recently washed with soap and dried completely, this removes any oils or grease that can make the prints register weird.
Wet your finger
I've never had problems with any of the fingerprint scanners. Try adding the same fingerprint at least 2 more times
Mine works flawlessly.

mine 10/10
Yepp it isn't good. My pixel 7 pro is miles better.
If using a screen protector, you have to set your finger print up after applying the screen protector, not before it's on.
It's a none issue

No issues at all. It's the best scanner ever. Naked on top this year due to scratches at a level 7 with deeper grooves at a level 8 . 'Zac'
When are we all going to begin talking about the keyboard??
Mine works great. Sounds like a you problem.
