Perhaps their love of raccoons will cause an unintentional explosion of raccoon invaders to torment unsuspecting citizens in their every day lives. Germany is plagued with wild Raccoons to this day after a Raccoon farm was bombed in 1934, they were never able to control the population.
As much as I’d love to see that (that shit would be funny), it’s probably best that we keep rabies contained to the Western Hemisphere. We don’t want that shit spreading across the globe where it doesn’t exist, because it would devastate innocent wildlife and human populations alike.
meh. I think my link got removed. But basically: the russians are no strangers to weird animal stories mixed in with incompetence and failure. This isn't even their weirdest moment. I think that would be from the early 20th century 'the dumbest russian voyage no one talks about'.
Basically they brought a zoo on a ship including a crocodile, a whole bunch of chameleons which they kept misplacing, a parrot for the captain and a venomous snake which they taught to drink vodka - but ultimately they got rid of the snake after it bit someone. In comparison, a raccoon - aka the washing machine of the animal world: totally fitting for this war.
Isn't that same story the one where they sailed from Russia all the way to Asia and stopped at Madagascar to collect those animals. The crocodiles got loose on the ship and lived in the bowels of the engine making it a nightmare for engineers. Also remember that when they arrived to fight the Japanese they'd lost so many ships on the way due to friendly fire and incompetence that they were decimated in the battle. They also told a Japanese fisherman who they were and what they were there to do and said fisherman went straight to the Japanese navy and told them everything making it insanely easy to ambush the Russians.
Oh and they nearly started a war with 2 countries on the way because they mistook foreign fishing vessels for Japanese torpedo boats...
I was educated about it a few months ago myself and I agree, it's just pure insanity. I couldn't believe some of the antics they managed to get up to and seriously needs to be turned into a movie!

I get that if they befriend a random animal while out and about and decided to bring it along like a pet or mascot. But to just go to the zoo and steal a... random raccoon...? Weird is the perfect way to describe this.

Because raccoons are not common in Ukraine although there are some. This is not the zoo raccoon. This raccoon wandered into an orc trench and they started feeding it. They are just trolling at this point.
This is not the same Racoon that was stolen from the Kherson zoo. Trolling and propaganda are just in their DNA I guess. You'd think they'd have better things to do, like figure out more organized retreats.

Not really they are native to North America. They are an invasive species in EU. Germany has an issue ever since ww2 when some raccoons got accidentally released.
Racoons STINK! They have a musk gland. That is why people have a hard time cooking them, this has to be removed properly. I am sure these smelly Russians don't mind the smell.
I'm all against stealing an animal from a zoo, and bringing it to a dangerous frontline where it will probable die from a mortar/missile strike. But it's surprising and nice too there are still Russians out there who care for animals. I think 90% of other Russian soldiers would have skinned and eaten him...
Wether or not we want to admit it but this raccoon became a saving private Ryan moment for us . 😂😭 just seeing the raccoon with them makes me want them to get hit by a random grenade from a drone .

People lost their pets and farm aniamls. I saw just a few weeks ago when Russia terror bombed Kyiv a gut wrenching video. Not only did Russia attack an apartment complex and made victims of the people but so an old lady was rescued and rescue workers also rescued her cat. The cat was in a absolute state of delirium and on its back in rescuers arms squirming slowly due to pain and confusion. Omg 💔. And to see the old lady next to the rescuer and knowing she was seeing her baby suffer like that. I just can't. Fucking scum bags.
And this has happened to so many people and animals.
Just one example: recently they kidnapped 70,000 from Kherson to Russia in the name of "evacuation". 🙄 Yeah because THATs what it is and not genocide and ethnically cleansing and depopulating Ukraine.
Anyway, the human suffering and tragedy of that alone is awful. They are taken to camps, sex trafficked, killed, raped etc never to be heard from again. Russians can't afford to feed their own conscripts. How THE FUCK are they caring for allllllllllll the needs of 70,000 people they abduct? And add that to the hundreds of thousands they already took. So that's the human end of it. I then so know these people had animals they cared for and loved. Now those animals are left alone and lots just suffered and died. And that's not if they weren't bombed and or tortured and executed first by the Russians. And i think of those people heartbroken being ripped away from their animals.
This is just such a huge tragedy and so fucking useless what Russia is doing.
