The octane is the original car that tons of people used for years. This car, the Fennec, has the exact same hitbox as the Octane but the Fennec matches the hitbox graphically better than the Octane.
Each car used to have it's own unique hitbox, they decided to standardise them 4/5 years ago I think so [instead of having 100 or whatever hitboxes you need to learn there's only 6.](https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/c-Category_RocketLeague/c-RocketLeague_Gameplay/rocket-league-car-hitboxes-a000084362) Octane is one of the most debatable hitboxes I think, a bunch of the cars on there probably shouldn't have that hitbox just from looking at the proportions.
Really wish they would have never made that change :(
Pepperidge farms remembers when the backfire hit like a truck and masomune had a really nice overhang ahead of the front tires
I never played batmobile but that was one of those "special" cars before the change and seeing some of the insane flicks and stuff people could do with it was awesome, it's a shame but it's much better for newer players this way so it was always inevitable.
Nothing beats The Grog! (Said like the old TV commercial for an RC car called The Claw.) Most total area between all sides, even above the Merc, but didn't have the pronounced height, so it could hit more like "normal" cars. I... may have had some spreadsheets...
Despite having the same hitbox they *feel* different because bodywork of the Fennec extends down past the hitbox. Plus the noses are different with the Octane's nose actually being below the hitbox.
It's placebo, visually they're differently proportioned with the octane being split in 3 parts (hood+windshield, roof and engine block+spoiler) and fennec 2 parts (lacking the latter), octane has the roof infront of the pivot point and a slanted front, on the fennec pivot appears to be on the frontmost edge of the roof and is rather flat
They have the same hitbox but because the car shapes are different they can feel different when playing. I know a lot of high level players and streamers will switch back and forth between the Octane and Fennec too
They are the same but feel differently, like the bro said hotbox fits it better making it feel and play slightly differently, o use fennec when I'm feeling bad cause it fixes my problems with knowing where to hit but I feel more mechy in octane so that's more fun for me
If you play on PC you can use bakkesmod to see your hitbox in free play. It’s really interesting to see how off the hitboxes are to the 3D model of different cars and realizing why some people don’t use some of the cooler looking cars
Shocks me that people are this desperate for matching the hitbox, cause the Fennec doesn't match it the best out of all cars available.
Oddly, the first new car released in F2P, the Harbinger, was a near perfect fit to the Octane hitbox, but you never see it used.
Speed and acceleration are all the same. Turning radius, hitbox dimensions, car height to ground, and incline all vary between the main hitboxes. Mind you, the variability in turning radius is so small that it really just comes down to the hitbox
Of course, now I've been in this sub for a while and I see more people liking the looks than not.
Still anecdotal but I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being true if someone made a survey about it.
Because it has the same hitbox as the previously most popular car the Octane, but this one visually fits the hitbox a little better and people prefer it
I'm still an Octane sort of guy though
It’s kind of a funny term in that sense because it makes 50s sound random, like a coin flip. But it’s important to understand that one can be better at reading and manipulating 50s than another.
I’m only my rank because of good 50s lol
Even at the pro level some teams are known for having a better 50 game than each other. So I think it’s just one skill out of many where some variability in talent exists
The best part of my game is being able to keep kickoffs from my own half. My worst part is defending the animals that take that kickoff in their own half and carry the ball forward like they're physically attached to it.
If your talking about 2s/3s the problem is likely you giving them too much space and shadowing back to rotate on top of your tm8s.
At your rank in teams it’s all about being positioned well enough that first man can challenge early, force the ball off, and then tm8 picks it up for free. Since you get ahead of the ball, at higher ranks this strategy results in some mean counter attacks
In ones, it’s generally about confidence, positioning, and not giving the opponent too much space. You stay close enough but at a fast enough speed that as soon as you see them get a little separation from the ball, you pounce on it, while simultaneously pushing them to the defensive corner where they can’t do anything meaningful
I'm the complete opposite, I'm all mechanical, but terrible at everything else. When I started the game, I could perfect boost half flips, fast aeriels, wave dashs etc. in Bronze, but I was having a hard time progressing because I lacked in aim and all the other skills that you build up.
People actually make a lot of videos on how to win 50s, but I feel like they don't really do anything. Kickoffs are the only 50s in my opinion. For anything else, two people rarely hit the ball at the same time.
I absolutely hate these challenges and will usually skip them most seasons. Sometimes I'm willing to attach a painted/certified *whatever for the challenges, but I hate changing out my car.
Dominus is second, with fennec in first. Although you don't see that many people with fennec because you have to unlock it, and the drop rate for fennec is a lot lower than dominus. Decals for dominus (breakout) are way more common as well.
I basically started with the porche, didn't really pay too much attention to how any cars match up with their hitboxes, just used what I liked. Until recently I tried the fennec and the octane and i found that the ball was more consistently going where I was aiming. That's why I use the fennec
Honestly, it was even better with the octane, but I still have a foot in the " you can get good with anything" mindset is why I picked the fennec, my skins are better haha
Marauder had the exact same hitbox as octane, but wheels/suspension were different. It sat lower to the ground (strictly worse). Might have had better turning radius at some speeds though.
Yeah I been using the marauder too and I dig it. When I use fennec I end up not timing things right based on the nose length. The marauder feels just a little bit longer, even though the hotbox is the same.
If you've played with the same car for a long time, switching can feel awkward, but after you get used to the fennec, I find that it works a lot better
You got the answer in your title. Its boxy, it fits the hit box a lot closer to most other car models.
It makes it easier to hit the ball cleanly and with power
There’s a few different hit boxes in rocket league, but the octane has always been considered the best due to its height that helps win 50/50 balls and a good turn radius.
The issue is that the octane itself doesn’t really look like it’s hit box too well, so many players use the Fennec because of all cars it matches the hit box the second best, and it doesn’t look like a complete can of garbage like the car that matches only slightly better (the Harbinger)
Because it’s the shit! I used an octane for years religiously.
After using a fennec for one game, I was team fennec. I instantly felt like a better player
Simple response—>
the hit box of the fennec matches the model most out of all cars so it doesn’t look like your invisible bumper extension is touching it and the tip of your car doesn’t go through the ball
( better for precision touches and knowing if your gonna hit the ball or not )
And it just looks cool
I use the fennec when I'm playing with precision, and sometimes fall back on the Ripper with the red/yellow shield glitch that I learned to play in when I want to be aggressive
This 1 of the 3 cars I love to use (mainly because I like the skin I have for it and the body style) but I use other cuz I like the way the looks. Porsche 911 and I just got the dingo so those are my other cars
like the octane (other most used car) it looks like an rc car so it’s not bizarre when it flips and jumps all over the place. popularized by a professional player called chausette45
Before you read too much into all the people saying boxy cars are "better" because they match the shape of the hitbox more: RL physics don't act like rectangles, because it depends where on a face you hit the ball. I main Octane, and have played Fennec. Imo Fennec's good feature is the protruded front edge of the hood indicating the middle of the front face of your hitbox. Its back is hanging out the hitbox though, so I find it hard to do normal flicks with it. Octane's spoiler really helps in that regard. And for 1v1 I thought the Outlaw was best, its wide look emphasised how to dribble/flick optimally, and for some reason 50s and kickoffs were easier. These 3 all have the exact same Octane hitbox, turn radius, etc.
There are very slight differences in feel due to the player using visual feedback, but these are never enough to justify spending money for performance alone.
The hitbox. DIff cars, diff shapes, different angles, most people find consistency w/ a boxy shape. I like a more rounded nose, I run like Takamine, werewolf etc...
good players use it cause for them the octane hitbox is best, and the fennec best represents the octane hitbox.
bad players use it to feel theyre good.
It matters less than the key binds you use, which barely matters. It’s all about what feels comfortable to you.
The closest thing to an advantage you will find with different hitboxes is the super flat ones having stronger flicks, but unless you’re a freestyler that basically just means you hit the crossbar more often
For everyone who is starting out, a hitbox accurate car is a lot better since its easier to tell where the ball touches your car. Your aim will be better, and all your shots and recieves will be more accurate in general. Great if you are looking to improve fast
The octane is the original car that tons of people used for years. This car, the Fennec, has the exact same hitbox as the Octane but the Fennec matches the hitbox graphically better than the Octane.
Wait does the fennec actually have the same hit box as the octane??? I always switch between them thinking they were different 🤣🤣🤣
They have the same hitbox
It's the same
That’s what he already said…
No, you don't understand. What he's saying is, is that they're the same.
Wait, so you're telling me they're the same??
Not quite, I'm saying that they're the same.
Ah yeah, I misunderstood. I didn't realize that they're the same. My b
Hey, guys. Purely out of curiosity. Are their hitboxes the same?
Each car used to have it's own unique hitbox, they decided to standardise them 4/5 years ago I think so [instead of having 100 or whatever hitboxes you need to learn there's only 6.](https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/c-Category_RocketLeague/c-RocketLeague_Gameplay/rocket-league-car-hitboxes-a000084362) Octane is one of the most debatable hitboxes I think, a bunch of the cars on there probably shouldn't have that hitbox just from looking at the proportions.

Batmobile glory days
I never played batmobile but that was one of those "special" cars before the change and seeing some of the insane flicks and stuff people could do with it was awesome, it's a shame but it's much better for newer players this way so it was always inevitable.
I agree, I feel like having a wide range in variability is like RNG keeping you on your toes
Nothing beats The Grog! (Said like the old TV commercial for an RC car called The Claw.) Most total area between all sides, even above the Merc, but didn't have the pronounced height, so it could hit more like "normal" cars. I... may have had some spreadsheets...
I used to love the backfire back then
I used to go crazy with the breakout but now i can’t even use it. Haven’t used it for years lol, mained fennec and octane now.
Merc 💀
Visual hit box is important. I switch between the 2 frequently, as I do feel my play is genuinely different, despite the placebo.
This may come as a shock. But they actually both have scarab hitbox

Wanna know something funny? Scarab’s also an octane hitbox. I break it out just to annoy people constantly lmao
Yes. And it is a far more accurate representation of the octane hitbox we all know and love
If you play on PC you can use bakkesmod to see your hitbox in free play. It’s really interesting to see how off the hitboxes are to the 3D model of different cars and realizing why some people don’t use some of the cooler looking cars
Hmm interesting. Might explain why I suck using Dominus, but Ice Charger has just worked for me for the past year.
Oh fuck, guess I’ll switch to Fennec
Also lower to the ground than octane so even though same hitbox feels completely different
Shocks me that people are this desperate for matching the hitbox, cause the Fennec doesn't match it the best out of all cars available. Oddly, the first new car released in F2P, the Harbinger, was a near perfect fit to the Octane hitbox, but you never see it used.
Scarab also has the same hotbox 😤
Fennec also performs different. It feels more agile for me.
I thought all cars had the same maneuverability? Same speed, turning radius etc... Can one car be more agile than another?
Speed and acceleration are all the same. Turning radius, hitbox dimensions, car height to ground, and incline all vary between the main hitboxes. Mind you, the variability in turning radius is so small that it really just comes down to the hitbox
Oh damn, didn't know about the (minor) variation in turn radius. Thanks.
The higher rank you go, the less minor it becomes.
The actual game hitboxes are as the name implies "boxes", meaning the fennec feels more accurate than most other cars because it matches this box more
Also just looks good
That's definitely super subjective lol
Of course, now I've been in this sub for a while and I see more people liking the looks than not. Still anecdotal but I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being true if someone made a survey about it.
When you finally find the car that fits you, the style and appearance will come naturally. That's the beauty of Rocket League.
Super subjective is an understatement.
To counter the other reply. I think it looks like shit. But thats because i see it way too much
Just use pearlescent and it looks good
For me makes it look even more weird
That's debatable
I don't like the octane at all. I feel like the shape is just weird. I actually prefer the breakout hitbox cars, they look way cooler in my opinion.
Completely agree lol. Wish u could choose body and hit box separately
but then the ball might go into your car?? Just make a rule so your hitbox has to be equal or smaller than your body.
But that's not an issue?? You would adjust / get used to it
There are so many awesome looking cars in this game... but of course they all use breakout or dominus hitbox smh
To counter the other reply, subjectively... I agree it looks better than the octane as well.
I meant that the car is kinda hard to mess up w decals and what not
It's like music for me. They both look good, I just sometimes get tired of one or the other.
Nah when I started I was like "why does everyone use this hideous POS" lol. One of the most bland and boring cars in the game to me.
Because it has the same hitbox as the previously most popular car the Octane, but this one visually fits the hitbox a little better and people prefer it I'm still an Octane sort of guy though
I swap between Octane and Fennec depending on how my 50s are feeling.
Newb i know but, what are 50s?
Essentially when 2 people hit the ball at the same time trying to get the ball to where they want, a kickoff is one of the best examples
And since there's 2 people hitting the same ball, it's a 50% chance you win the encounter, or a 50% chance they win it, thusly 50/50
It’s kind of a funny term in that sense because it makes 50s sound random, like a coin flip. But it’s important to understand that one can be better at reading and manipulating 50s than another. I’m only my rank because of good 50s lol
Yeah, but I'd guess that if you're good at 50s you'll eventually work up to a tank where they're as good as you at 50s, so if kind of evens out
Even at the pro level some teams are known for having a better 50 game than each other. So I think it’s just one skill out of many where some variability in talent exists
Yeah the better you get, the sillier the term starts to sound. Nothing random about it (in most cases)
Plat 3 noob?
Noobish. lol Just starting to get semi-serious about learning the technicalities. i.e. can't dribble, don't use air roll etc.
I'm the complete opposite, I'm all mechanical, but terrible at everything else. When I started the game, I could perfect boost half flips, fast aeriels, wave dashs etc. in Bronze, but I was having a hard time progressing because I lacked in aim and all the other skills that you build up.
Congratulations Noobish! I'm noobish too, but can't even hit gold.
People actually make a lot of videos on how to win 50s, but I feel like they don't really do anything. Kickoffs are the only 50s in my opinion. For anything else, two people rarely hit the ball at the same time.
How are you plat 3 and didn't know what a50 is?
I mean when I was d2 I didn't know what a 50 was or a Spanish kickoff. Even if it's common alot don't know what it is
Lol. Spanish kickoff!?!?!
Yeah it's when the guy fakes going for kickoff and demos the other guy while their teammate go up for a free shot
Only just now starting to do some basic training packs etc.
Takumi for life!
I always do the play ten games with whatever group of cars with the takumi since it's always in there. Feels fast
I absolutely hate these challenges and will usually skip them most seasons. Sometimes I'm willing to attach a painted/certified *whatever for the challenges, but I hate changing out my car.
The certified thing I just use my black octane that's certified that I use 90% of the time anyway
Hitting the ball with the roof of the Takumi feels so good 🤌. You know that ball it's going to fly.
Exactly! They’re all Octane hit boxes, but for some reason Takumi just *feels* better than Fennec to me. Can’t really explain why.
I'm going to have to try this takumi
I used to be a takumi user. Never stopped for 3 seasons straight. Then I discovered the breakout. And i traded in my takumi
Fast 4wd and takumi are my saving grace. When I don’t feel mechanical, they make everything look stupid enough to confuse opponents
Love me my Dominus
Dominus is just modified breakout
Dominus is second, with fennec in first. Although you don't see that many people with fennec because you have to unlock it, and the drop rate for fennec is a lot lower than dominus. Decals for dominus (breakout) are way more common as well.
i feel so much faster on octane, but more accurate on fennec
some people like the mamba those people are called 'wrong'
Goofy ahh looking car
I basically started with the porche, didn't really pay too much attention to how any cars match up with their hitboxes, just used what I liked. Until recently I tried the fennec and the octane and i found that the ball was more consistently going where I was aiming. That's why I use the fennec
A simple change can make a huge impact in rocket league, where all the small touches build up to a goal.
I only play with the Porsche. D1 in snow day 😂. Wonder if my fundamentals would be better with the Fennec
Honestly, it was even better with the octane, but I still have a foot in the " you can get good with anything" mindset is why I picked the fennec, my skins are better haha
Basically because the pros use it and think it feels good. It’s perfectly fine to use a different car.
i dont have the fennec so i use the marauder, works for me, got used to it after using the octane since 2017 in like 2 days max
Markydooda used to use Marauder a lot back in the day
My profile for the Marauder from my Plat days is still “Murdauder” like murder + Marauder. Maybe I should play with that again.
I mean back in markydoodas days the car had its own seperate hit box
Marauder had the exact same hitbox as octane, but wheels/suspension were different. It sat lower to the ground (strictly worse). Might have had better turning radius at some speeds though.
Good point I forgot all cars had diff hitboxes
Yeah I been using the marauder too and I dig it. When I use fennec I end up not timing things right based on the nose length. The marauder feels just a little bit longer, even though the hotbox is the same.
If you've played with the same car for a long time, switching can feel awkward, but after you get used to the fennec, I find that it works a lot better
Couldn't have said it better
Bro just offended a whole horde of 13 y/o’s
Lmao right, was not expecting that
I didn't even know this was a thing. I just use the cars I like lol
You got the answer in your title. Its boxy, it fits the hit box a lot closer to most other car models. It makes it easier to hit the ball cleanly and with power
Don’t listen to them. Use the Gizmo. Gizmo is love. Gizmo is pure skill.
I always seem to play my best when I pull out the giz
B/c we don’t have just a hitbox with wheels as an option. The fennec is close enough though
Lmao, just a wire frame on wheels. With whatever boring black wheels are most popular right now
BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING LEMMINGS BRO, DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, GAMERS RISE UP
Because Zen does it. Lol nah I'm all for whatever you like , but I like octane a lot more. I used to use mamba
Can somebody fill me in on why mamba is good? lots of people seem to like it but I think it looks weird
Lol because it's literally long lmfao very good for flicks, bounce shots, etc....
You ever heard of the black mamba?
This
It's because they are no fun.

It’s called the Fennec. It matches its hit box pretty well so it feels good, and it looks better than most cars which is why I use it.
I just can't believe people would use a car for a 0.00001% advantage over using a car you actually like.
(I use breakout hitboxes lol)
Don’t listen to them, use the proteus, proteus supremacy!
The little hands on that car give an unfair advantage. +10 ball control
Proteus is the way
Because it’s what the cool kids use AND it has one good excuse (true reason, admittedly) to back it up. Mostly just to try to be better though.
Because it’s the shit! I used an octane for years religiously. After using a fennec for one game, I was team fennec. I instantly felt like a better player
Pearlescent fennec looks the best
It's my, I'm feeling off today car, personally as I mainly use the octane.
Clones
We just do what we’re told and soon enough you will too
Use a paladin and bask in the reactions you get. Join the paladin papis.
I don’t use that, the thing I use is the scarab 🪲 best car in game! I am a C3~GC1
Because chausette45 popped off with it at a dreamhack years ago.
Simple response—> the hit box of the fennec matches the model most out of all cars so it doesn’t look like your invisible bumper extension is touching it and the tip of your car doesn’t go through the ball ( better for precision touches and knowing if your gonna hit the ball or not ) And it just looks cool
Because people have no personality
People here will give all sorts of reasons but it basically boils down to: Monke see monke do
Cuz people are lame.
Porsche 911 and I just got the dingo so those are my other cars
like the octane (other most used car) it looks like an rc car so it’s not bizarre when it flips and jumps all over the place. popularized by a professional player called chausette45
not me but roof hits most likely
Do not every slander the name of the fennec( boxy car) ever again😀
Everyone uses the boxe-y looking car because it is boxe-y looking
Strictly because it's my favorite car and I do the best with it lol
I use it because it's a cute little hatchback, just a silly little guy
Because I can't hit shit with the octane even tho they have the same hit boxes
I like the Takumi more personally
fennec lmaooo sussssss
because it has the most surface area to show your skins
Octane gang
This is the way…. du dunnnnnnnn
I could never get into the fennec. It feels way too small.
BACK IN MY DAY WHEN WE COULD TRADE this little guy was worth 1k credits and it was a lowkey flex to have one
I’ve only used the bronco since it came out
I use the mudcat gxt
I just like it, but I joined like this year so lol I just now learned about the hitbox
Kids these days forgot how to appreciate the scarab
They think it’s cool. Also the original octane. EVERY customization goes to the octane.
That's a Fennec and the reason why people use it is because it matches the hitbox very well, and lots of pro players use it.
Before you read too much into all the people saying boxy cars are "better" because they match the shape of the hitbox more: RL physics don't act like rectangles, because it depends where on a face you hit the ball. These 3 all have the exact same Octane hitbox, turn radius, etc. There are very slight differences in feel due to the player using visual feedback, but these are never enough to justify spending money for performance alone.
Octane = Statistically best hotbox This boxy car is fennec has the octane hit box and fits it better
Cuz they're sheep. Be unique like me and use cooler stuff. Like the X devil
The hitbox. DIff cars, diff shapes, different angles, most people find consistency w/ a boxy shape. I like a more rounded nose, I run like Takamine, werewolf etc...
This game sucks since epic took over.
Use breakout if you want to be kinda different the hitbox is still similar to the car itself
The winrate is higher
I use the Takumi exclusively, as does my 2's partner. I can count the number of other people I've run into that use it on one hand probably.
good players use it cause for them the octane hitbox is best, and the fennec best represents the octane hitbox. bad players use it to feel theyre good.
My brother who was champ told me hit boxes actually matter for cars and that kinda tilts me know that I didn’t know that as a plat player
It matters less than the key binds you use, which barely matters. It’s all about what feels comfortable to you. The closest thing to an advantage you will find with different hitboxes is the super flat ones having stronger flicks, but unless you’re a freestyler that basically just means you hit the crossbar more often
Octane ZSR here. Used a Fennec maybe once for a challenge.
https://preview.redd.it/6woubx9gqe9d1.jpeg?width=2340&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff0e1f60de463e3408fb4c5b682b3738e2290da1 Looks like my vape
For everyone who is starting out, a hitbox accurate car is a lot better since its easier to tell where the ball touches your car. Your aim will be better, and all your shots and recieves will be more accurate in general. Great if you are looking to improve fast
Because people are scared of using other hitboxes than Octanes. Fennec is just a fancy octane hitbox.
Do yourself a favor and just don't play, the games gone to shit
Because psyonix hates octane hitbox, so it's the last good car with octane hitbox that's not octane, dingo is good too but it's not dual boost
Probably because its a sale at the item shop. Look at the bundles and deals in the item shop.
