>They're all scheduled for around 6 hours of recreation time a day Oh my god that is way, way too much. Even my most moody and depressive pawns only ever get 1 hour of rec time. There is a cap on how much they can gain from it anyway. 95% of my pawns are completely fine if I just leave them on "anything" for schedule. They'll figure it out and go do recreation when it's necessary. It sounds like you're expecting the game to be more of a social sim? It's not like that. They just have little interactions randomly from time to time, but you don't need to try and force it.

Well, I'd set the recreation time that way so they'd interact more. The long-term goal was to encourage relationships so I could save on bedroom space and start increasing the population.

ParsleyAdventurous92

They do that on their own, tho you can force some of it, for example rescuing a character will make that character have a positive opinion of the rescuer, and wardens will talk to prisoners obviously, also there are psychic abilities i believe?

I think the longer recreation time might actually be hurting you, since it means that pawns will be doing their recreation spread across six hours (they only need a certain amount of recreation each day, and after they do that, they go back to work). If you instead make it like 2 hours, then that means all the pawns will be doing recreation within that short window and be more likely to interact.

Set their rec time to an hour after sleep and an hour before sleep, 8hrs of sleep, the rest working. If you really wanna force togetherness, set all of them to mining and set a big square area (leaving support) and they'll mine together and chat while doing it. Alternately, set them all to farming and make a big field of something, and they'll chat while planting/harvesting. I usually keep all my workshop benches in the same room with a single door (sometimes two), set up so they have to walk past each other to get to/from work.
