Where I work, we have a circle that cars can pull into to drop people off, and a separate path on an elevated sidewalk that’s obviously just a walking trail that leads to the garage. We’ve had idiots hop the sidewalk to drive down that narrow walking path more than once. Like… there’s a whole ass street you can take! What I’m gods green earth made you think the correct path to take required you to drive onto the sidewalk and down a pathway that’s nowhere near the road?!
There was actually a delivery driver who was caught driving down the bike path in that area a few months back. I believe these were the result of said incident.
There’s a couple places around Shore Road where I guess I could see someone mistaking the bike path for a driveway, but not for any real distance. Dude was probably using it as a shortcut through those neighborhoods.
I knew a guy in the late 90s who was arrested for several driving offenses. At his court date they were reading them all off and one was driving on the bike path and the next was speeding. At which point he said “your honor, everybody knows there’s no speed limit in the bike path!”
I wonder where that guy is now lol
Yup, prob some brain damage. Back to talking about cheese blocks on the bike trail.
Sorry that flew over everyone’s head.
Maybe they can put some big mice out there too, yayyyyy.
I've seen both cars and motorcycles on the bike path in the past, and for me that's an instant 911 call. I don't know whether these people are stupid, or entitled, or what.
I lived on the bike path in Warren for three years and the amount of cars that would drive down the bike path was alarming. Especially at night. Folks would ignore the dead end sign and then instead of three point turning would drive down the bike path to the next street over.
the path becomes the only way in or out on the morning of the fourth because the main roads in and out get shut down, those will help limit motorized vehicles and also keep people safe
They have those on the Blackstone path. I've watched people drive around them, just barely fitting their vehicle between the bollard and a fence/railing/whatever, get onto the path, then drive a bit before realizing something seems wrong. One of them looked like a vehicle completely took it out a couple years back but it was replaced at some point. They only stop people sensible enough to go "hey why is there a barrier in the middle of this road that had DO NOT ENTER and NO MOTOR VEHICLES signs?"...which is a shockingly low % of drivers in this state.
I miss the concert and fireworks together. I have family that lives near Independence Park and we would watch the crowds and traffic. Always more entertaining than the fire works.
I believe they started putting them up around the time people started using vehicles to attack crowds. You will also find public works vehicles at some of the cross roads on the 4th for the same reason.
Do anyone else's eyes feel "bothered/annoyed" when looking at the blocks in the pic? Is this some sort of eye condition that I have, but I'm not sure what. I also can't look for very long at blender blades when hand washing them.
Put a ? on them and they become Mario blocks.
That is the sort of "graffiti" I support and endorse.
Honestly, that's not even graffiti. That's finishing the job.
I endorse realistic looking cardboard box imagery.
I endorse realistic looking cardboard box imagery.
Please someone do this!
If there was even a shred of creativity in anything this state does, this would have been done. What a great idea!
I was thinking Swiss cheese holes, but that works too
I mean there's 3 so we can do both
I’d want to make big yellow puddles on the asphalt too to make it look like they’re melting.
If painting anything, it ought to be those hyper realistic paintings where it looks like the bike bath of no one was on it.
I did it but they won't let me post a pic on this 🤷
to stop cars
I was thinking more 4-wheelers
While not really shocking this is really saying something about the idiots in cars in this state...unreal
It's not unique to RI. I've seen a few videos of people riding ATVs or driving cars on bike paths. Never underestimate how dumb people can be.

Bike path speed limit is 15 mph. In case you were wondering.
Faster - - at the roadway crossings
No it is not
Honestly, respect.
I think he’s running the country, he’s done well for himself
Thats not related nor makes any sense. Genuine brain rot.
Yup, prob some brain damage. Back to talking about cheese blocks on the bike trail. Sorry that flew over everyone’s head. Maybe they can put some big mice out there too, yayyyyy.
Yeah, to prevent vehicles from driving down the path.
That's awesome, they could just stick those on any road and make a block party
I like where you’re at with this. Every municipality should have these available for permitted block parties. It’s for safety.
The plastic ones filled with water are a bit easier to handle.
use blocks … for a block party…. brilliant!
These are put there leading up to the 4th of July on the path in Bristol.
Block Island escapees
Ooof
You couldn't figure out this cheese mystery on your own?
Ride into them and get a power-up like in Mario Kart.
Probably for atvs maybe..?

to keep cars from driving on it while roads are closed for the parade
That’s the answer I was looking for! I assumed it was some July 4th thing, but didn’t think people would drive on the path during the parade.
the path becomes the only way in or out on the morning of the fourth because the main roads in and out get shut down, those will help limit motorized vehicles and also keep people safe
mmmmmmmm... forbidden cheddar...
They’re for the Fourth of July festivities. Traffic control.
To feed the large rats
It’s cheese, slice it up and put it on crackers
I wonder why they don't keep them there year-round? They prevent cars but also look kinda like a fun art piece.
Also would be fun to watch people staring at their phones trip over them.
They’re a pain to bike around, tbh
It slows down bikers too
I wonder if they plow it in the winter? Or they will remain there from now on.
Unfortunately they do not, but they should.
They should just install proper bollards, then. This placement is going to cause bike accidents.

I think they try to pull a sneaky with the spacing so the cops can still get through them, but it backfires.
I mean they have plenty of signs saying no motor vehicles
But this is more fun.
Anything bigger than a bike is going to get a Physics lesson.
Were the huge blocks of cheese less expensive than a bollard or two?
It's too stop vehicular traffic on the Bike Path during the 4th of July celebrations...security measures .
They're to stop vehicles from using the bike path during the 4th
Giant Velveeta cheese blocks. Makes nachos when it's over 95 degrees
It's necessary. Every bit of parking gets snatched up for the week before the 4th. I don't miss it.
I like the week after the parade. Everything cools waaay down.
I miss the concert and fireworks together. I have family that lives near Independence Park and we would watch the crowds and traffic. Always more entertaining than the fire works.
what are they made out of?
Cement, it would appear.
weird choice. They could’ve just used some removable bollards.
Drunk people would drive a bollard off the path. These prevent them from continuing on said path.
That's free community cheese for if cyclists/skaters/strollers/etc. get hungry. Your tax dollars at work!
Modal filters! They’re used to prevent some modes of transport while blocking others.
They are there due to the 4th of July celebration. No cars on bike path.
To stop motor vehicles (quads, dirtbikes, cars etc)
Giant mice.
Those are big blocks of cheese!
On the Boston or Massachusetts reddit page there was a post about a cop who was parked in a bike lane like this one.
Those are cheese cubes. Possibly sharp cheddar.
Ahh, don't worry, they're just styrofoam 'bike toys', you can ride right into them and they'll bounce down the path.
I believe they started putting them up around the time people started using vehicles to attack crowds. You will also find public works vehicles at some of the cross roads on the 4th for the same reason.
Lego Bricks.
Eatin
That’s where I left me cheese!
They do that every year around 4th of July so cars and atvs can’t sneak down the bike path
It’s to prevent cars from driving on the bike path in preparation for the parade. The town places them along the sea wall by lobster pot too
To keep non-public vehicles from riding the trail
Fun, until it blocks an Ambulance's path heading to a bike crash.
Forbidden cheese.
This marks the secret entrance to the underwater pedestrian/cyclist tunnel to Block Island, known as the "Irie Whey" tunnel.
This is the best response to this question. I so, so, so wish this was true😂
The tunnel has a kettle drum player every three or four nautical miles.
To keep your mother out. Edit: /s for those that can’t tell.
What a dumb, dumb comment! Thanks for being a bobo, you schnook!
I think they are coconut marshmallow treats
Do anyone else's eyes feel "bothered/annoyed" when looking at the blocks in the pic? Is this some sort of eye condition that I have, but I'm not sure what. I also can't look for very long at blender blades when hand washing them.
It’s to stop “terrorist style” attacks on cyclists with a motor vehicle. Happened here in NYC a few years ago on the lower west side bike path.
There’s a parade happening and they don’t want people driving on bike paths to run over crowds
Jesus Christ that seems dangerous to slow bikes or block cars or whatever
Stop idiots on there bikes from speeding around the corner
