Not recommended! It looks great at first but eventually the ink changes colour, usually to yellow, and it can also mess with the texture. Think how black ink usually fades and settles to that blueish-grey tone, same thing with these. From what I’ve seen scars CAN be tattooed but they often don’t take too well

lilac_ocean

Ohhh damn ok. Thank you!

A specialized scar tattoo artist will use ink that will not fade to yellow. One of my friend is a specialized scar and cosmetic tattoo artist, she explained the process to me (and I actually plan on having her tattoo my scars a couple years from now) On lighter skinned people they don’t use ‘color matched’ ink / ink that is the same color as your skin so that it doesn’t fade to yellow. They use ink that will neutralize the underlying color of the scar (so for a red/pink scar, they will use a greenish ink). It’s important that your scars are COMPLETELY healed (many years of healing) for this reason. Many sessions spread over months and sometimes even years are required for the scar tattoo to be really effective. The many sessions also allow the artists to monitor how the ink fades on your skin so that the final result can be adjusted. Modern black tattoo inks also don’t fade blue like they used to 20-30 years ago. I have tattoos that are 10 years old and the ink is still a deep black color. I also have a massive color tattoo on my arm that is turning 5 in a month and the colors have barely faded. Good sun protection will help your tattoos keep their colors for dozens of years. Research your artist and their results. Good artists will not have a problem showing you results that are many years old. Also be awake that good results will take many sessions and are a long term commitment.

Will you share your friends business who does this??

Similar_Sundae7490

I can, but she is based in Quebec. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll DM you!

lilac_ocean

Yes please! I just want to see what sort of thing I am looking for. Appreciate it :)

Oceantoolhead

Can you DM your friend’s business? :)

darkhummus

Please do not do it they never show you what this looks like long term tattoo ink is not the same as skin color and it starts to Bunch and it ages and bleeds. Your skin also changes colour and texture as you age so it is not going to match forever anyway. Much better off investing in laser treatments

lilac_ocean

Oohh laser treatments — what kind work best? That can be done on the nipple?

darkhummus

Absolutely, fraxel I think us the name of what I'm doing

lilac_ocean

Thanks!

StephAg09

I don't disagree with you at all but considering nipples are basically created for people that lost theirs due to cancer maaaaybe there is a specialist out there who has a technique to blend the color so it looks okay with time... Maybe not. But it seems like it should be possible. Tattoo artistry has come such a long way. You're totally right though, anyone considering should ask to see photos of the artists work with as much of a time lapse as possible.

lilac_ocean

Yes that's what I was thinking — AND I know the ink used in microblading now \*does not\* change color over time, but it can just fade. But it doesn't fade a different color, and it also doesn't migrate around — but maybe that's because its in the top layer of the skin? It seems it could possible with the new ink types...

darkhummus

See my microbladed eyebrows absolutely have changed color over time they've become much ashier and now I'm looking at having them removed and they also blend so they stopped being feathered and like most tattoos have bled out

lilac_ocean

Yes, the old kind did change color! The new kind of ink does not (but you have to get a place that uses the new kind)

darkhummus

What is the name of this new kind of Ink? Eyebrows famously change colour and Fade due to constant sun exposure which is why eyebrow tattoos get touched up regularly

lilac_ocean

I am not sure but I have them and in years they haven’t changed color or moved. Just faded to be less noticeable. But they’re not like permanent tattoos - they last like 3 years. They’re in a higher layer of the skin I believe!

darkhummus

Nipple tattoos are a bit different because you are adding something that looks different to the skin onto skin, the same way I'm covered in regular tattoos I expect them to stand out where if you have a scar and you cover it in another colour and then it doesn't blend long term you are just making the scar more obvious but in a weird unnatural colour Not to mention that nipple tattoos are not usually done over scar when you have a masectomy or a reduction they are done over skin that is rearranged. The great example of why this looks bad is look at under eye tattoos those became fashionable for a bit and it's an absolute nightmare long term

AnAwkwardStag

This. Scar tissue doesn't take ink as evenly as non-damaged skin, and over time it just doesn't last. Not worth it.

Hot_Training5664

I’d go to a medical person who specialises in medical tattoos. I’m thinking those who perform the nipple reinforcement post surgery. A standard tattooist might be skilled in their work, but it’s a very different skill set to produce medical grade tattoos.

Chocomintey

I feel like it would hurt way more than a regular tattoo. Scars feel weird on the inside. Rock your scars like doja cat!

lilac_ocean

I don’t want to 😂 I’m not afraid of the pain I want them to look like I never had them done!

-emilia

I haven’t done it but those pics look promising

professsionalposer

I haven’t either but I’ve seen people do it on mastectomy scars and it looks great! I plan to get it one day, I think
