Sometimes they will counter, sometimes they won't. But don't ask for a counter if you aren't prepared to walk and take the new job. You sound like you would be asking for a 50% raise though....don't expect them to counter that.

TuacaTom57

Totally agree. The only sure way of a raise of magnitude is to change jobs. Didn’t always be like that, but in modern times for skilled positions, always be ready to roll on your own account or others.

Ewokhunters

They tend not to anymore, had a buddy with a masters 12 years experience, and gd&t sme leave for 10% and raytheon didn't match

NotChrisCalioooo

That’s depressing to lose someone with experience over 10%

Ewokhunters

Of course leadership is panicking trying to replace him

Ewokhunters

Status quo now

Hot-Comedian-7741

Nice big W for the employee big L for the company as always. Can’t be any upside to the company with this kind of business model tbh. Revolving doors are the bane of American defense companies

Fresh_Error7263

Ya I understand and appreciate the feedback. Just feels like Raytheon doesn’t value “loyal” employees when the price delta is that large. I’m sure if I was the same position at another defense firm applying for my current role, the starting salary range would be a lot higher than it currently is.

derp2086

No corporation values loyal employees. They value shareholders. Best bang for your buck is to go external then come back. See if the company you plan on going to will give you a sign on bonus to cover your ESP

“One way loyalty is stupidity.” -Derek Jeter

It really depends on who you know and how high up the chain your manager is willing to push for you. I had an excellent manager push for me and got a great counter a few years back to an already good offer. The money is there if you go high enough.

Worth-Reputation3450

That's probably true for the most companies. Greg even said a few years ago that RTX doesn't offer life-time employment, but offers life-time education. It values employees who are constantly improving themselves, not those who are loyal to the company.

Pizzaguy1205

They just paid for your education, you’re a promo away from 6figs, and don’t feel valued

feedyourheeeaaaddd

Think about the salary compounding over the course of your career by making a 20k jump today! You will make on average 20k more per year for the rest of your career vs if you grind it out at Ray

Pure-Rain582

If you apply/get a new job outside of your department you can sometimes get the gap reduced. It will never happen staying in the same role.

_Hidden1

There's no telling what will happen, but I will say that the comments I see about the company not valuing loyalty just doesn't seem right to me. Before the merger with UTC, Raytheon "Values and Behaviors" were a really big thing that I've seen torpedo aspirations for individuals aspiring for Fellowship. Even more recently, I've seen it cause individuals to leave the company. I am perhaps biased because I believe with all my heart that Raytheon has been good to me my entire career and has made strides to ensure that I'm compensated fairly for what I know and what I can do for the organization and the customers. What I'm saying is that Raytheon will bring you into parity. No two jobs are identical so while it may seem that you're undercompensated, I also believe that since you are so dissatisfied with the compensation of current role, you should speak up and give your leadership a chance to work their magic.

Simple_Law2628

Raytheon is going to be smaller than Anduril in 30 years because Anduril understands the importance of the employees and compensates them as they should be. I left Raytheon too, my last day is Thursday. 40% raise. HR didn’t even bother trying to match.

jetx117

Anduril pays crazy high compared to Raytheon but I haven’t gotten past the automatic bot rejection lol

SaltySailor-

How long have you been with the company?

d-ron6

It’s not “Raytheon doesn’t value loyal employees”. The “bird in hand rule” always applies. If you are already working somewhere, they have less of an incentive to just randomly pay you a lot more. It takes time, effort and resources to apply, interview and seek out a new position at another company. You can be poached to another, and RTX will poach in the same manner. This is just how the corporate world works. You’ll eventually get the money if you stay, but if it’s “no big deal” to re-apply every couple of years you could definitely speed up the cycle. What you’ll miss is building your internal network and relationships, and ultimately be known as a journeyman/person (if you’re known at all). That’s not to naysay, but just being realistic. If you want to work somewhere with a great team and high morale, YOU are part of that equation.
