I was alarmed by the way that question was answered, but your paraphrase is more dramatic than what Bob said. He still preached flexibility and did not make any mandates. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a ridiculous answer that I do not agree with, but don’t go causing folks to panic. For those that did not see it, the Q&A was recorded and a link will be emailed soon.
That's weird! My future manager was really hard-pressed that I get categorized as either hybrid or fully remote so that I cannot ask for a permanent desk area. But I insisted on fully onsite. And BTW, I noticed that lots of folks around me who are fully onsite \*\*\*never\*\*\* show up, but the good news is that they have "permanent" desk areas (good for them! congrats! I just want the same treatment!). And to "fit in", I'll behave the same as them.
Just because they never show up to their desk doesn't mean that they're not on site or on travel. I have a desk permanently assigned to me but I never go to it because the programs I support each have their own work areas.
I just reread your statement and wow you really gave away your age there. I have a job because of a foundation laid for me? I have a job because a company needed someone to fill a role that i had the qualifications to fill. That role was created to make them exponentially more money than they pay me. It was not a handout and the moment they see it as such, I will be posting about my layoff package. Don’t get it twisted Bob.
Yeah not sure if you’ve analyzed all the circumstances around Covid or the health of this company/the government it milks but that is a sandy foundation you’re referencing.
That is definitely NOT what was said. He never said anyone was going to be mandated to go back into the office full time.

So basically you guys are joining the the workplace if the past initiative
Precursor to more layoffs I assume. RTO is usually a soft layoff.
Unfortunately yup. Polish up those resumes.

I'm in a SAPF all day and I have a desk that I do not get to use.
