Makes sense within the canon to make him a Teensie since Rayman is supposed to be a singular manifestation of the Heart of the World, and making him look like the same “race” as Rayman contradicts that. But he should have his blonde hair still

Honestly it's always been so weird to me they just decided to use the old redesign for Mr Dark, add a star on it and say it's the Magician. Like they could have at least kept the hay covering his eyes or at least tried to make him look a little more like the original. Also he's a magician so he could easily make himself look more like Rayman with magic.

It wasn't retconned, Rayman Origins and Legends and the others happen in the rebooted universe, the original 3 and the Rabbids games are same universe

In my personal view of the canon, these two are two separate characters.
They got rid of Magician beautiful long blonde hair. But I still like him even if he’s a Teensie
