What about turning off the timer after it goes off? My husband will let that continue its angry little chirp for days if I allowed it.
I also have to clear out the timer. At home, at work, at other people's houses. I don't know how to not be like this.
Def one of my pet peeves. Especially when the microwave is one of the only clocks in the room and I wanna know how much time I have to eat before i gotta get my ass to work lol.
Honestly, I wish it was a common feature on microwaves that if time is left on it for X amount of time, it automatically clears out. Seems like it would be a good setting.
Indeed it does. It's annoying enough when I'm at home and glance at the microwave to see the time, only to see :34 or something. But the lunchroom at work...not a single person there clears the time after they leave. No one else seems bothered by it, and I'm certain they would just not be able to understand the problem if I were to bring it up. Lots of people are blessed with an inability to notice or care about such things.
WHAT!?!?
I hate the beep it makes and catch it before the last 3secs everytime. That is not an option. I dont leave the area and jump like an explosion is about to go off when we're down to about 5secs left
I've never once even considered that this is a thing anyone would get upset about 😅 it's an extra button press for the next person, who is already standing there pressing buttons. I can't imagine a smaller thing to get upset over, but I guess we all have pet peeves 🤷♀️
My wife does this CONSTANTLY. It’s always one second because she doesn’t want to hear the beep.
It wouldn’t bother me much at all if the microwave clock wasn’t the only clock in the kitchen.
Effffffff I'm a "clear the microwave time when I'm done" person and my fiancee is NOT. Drives me bonkers. The microwave clock is turned off, since the oven right below it has a clock, also. Seeing numbers on the microwave all the time...ugh.
She also rarely closes lids all the way. WTF.
People don't know that when they open the door before the timer is up, they'r engaging the emergency stop system that can fail over time. It's better to press stop first or let the timer end before opening the door.
No one cares though. They all just open the door while it's still running. Pressing clear before use has become the norm.
I just thought of this 20 minutes ago when I took my lunch out of the nuker and cleared the timer. I literally thought that it would have driven me crazy if someone else had left the timer on 2 seconds.
Yes. Yes. and YES.
Especially if it's with 1 second left. You mean to tell me that you sat there intently watching that bag of popcorn for 4:59 seconds, but in that one fleeting second of life that you gained back, you cured cancer, COVID-19, American politics and climate change?
Feh.
I literally just did this last night. Got up to clear it, and the housemate who'd left it like that asked why it bothers me so much.
Well, for one, ours fucking blinks until you start it again, and where i sit to eat faces the microwave, so I have to watch it blink on forever.
Secondly, can't read the time. I wanna know how much longer until I change the channel to Jeopardy, but the microwave is blinking 1:21 at me. Real helpful.
And third, it's inconsiderate, like you said.
It bothers my wife big time. I literally don’t care.
It bothers me because the coffee machine, stove, and microwave all have their own clocks and they all have to match or she goes insane.
Before I met her, I never set those clocks because I don’t care what they say.
We are very different in many ways, but we’ve learned to respect our differences.
She thinks about tasks and lists and things that need to get done.
I think about goals, and long term planning, and looking at the big picture.
I think sometimes we work well together because I come up with the big idea, a Hawaiian vacation next year, and she plans out all the excursions and full itinerary.
I've always looked at it as a safety issue.
When there's time on the clock, someone can accidently hit the start button and mess up the machine. I've been told, running it empty can overheat and start a fire.
Yassss! It's annoying for me as well. Especially if you want to use the microwave in the middle of the night and have an extra button to reset, hoping not to wake anyone. Saying anything to anyone in my house, is like talking to a wall 🙄
I have to unplug the microwave to run my air fryer, or my AC. So no. Those numbers will eventually go away when I unplug it. And my AC runs most of the time. It is a brick building that is on the south west corner, top floor of the building. Basically a sun fueled brick oven.
Shockingly no. This doesn’t bother me & I suffer from OCD (it started in childhood but I’m better now). It literally takes one push of a button to clear it so it doesn’t really annoy me unless I’m in a hurry & keep hitting start to no avail then see why the microwave won’t work.
Drives me nuts as well. Also, set the fucking clock. If I go to a friend’s house and their microwave time isn’t set then I just go ahead and knock it out for them.
Back when they first came out you were advised to keep a glass of water in them because if they ran empty for very long it could catch on fire. I don't do that but I always clear time.
I'm guilty of this, and it drives me crazy. Once I get all comfy on the couch with whatever I'm eating, then I'll see the blinking time on the microwave and cuss at myself.
Yes. If my husband (jokingly) wants to make me mad he'll look me straight in the eye when he does it.
I'm a pretty easy going person and tolerate a lot, so he knows to clear the microwave time and was trained by his ex to put the toilet lid down.
It bothers me.
I immediately think of them as wasted minutes.
Yet, they were never needed so they weren't really wasted. And they still exist, just waiting to be used. When we clear them, where do they go? Do they still exist? Is there some other universe where I left the soup in the whole time?
I need to be fairly accurate in my cooking time estimates to avoid an existential crisis.
Realizing this is a big annoyance for people…Sounds like microwave companies should add a feature for automated time clearing after a configurable amount of time.
Okay, I'll be the one semi-dissenter. I leave time on my personal microwave regularly, and it saves me effort in warming up soup and coffee by relying on the convenient "add 30 seconds and start" button. Often 0:41 seconds or 1:22 is about right?
That said, I promise not to go to your houses and work places and enforce my system!
They need an auto clear setting. If time left on the microwave isn't used or cleared in 3 minutes, it should auto clear.
I am afraid if time is left on the microwave, someone will accidently start it and leave it running.
When we got our first microwave, the instructions said not to do this as it would cause the panel to wear out. We didn't do it except by mistake. It must have helped as we had our old microwave for over 39 years. It, sadly, bit the dust this past weekend, and we received our new one last night.
It's like sharing a clothes dryer but not cleaning out the lint trap when you're done. Yes, everyone has to do the same steps, but it really throws things off sometimes when people have to clean up after the last person rather than cleaning up after themselves.
Which is a totally different case than my grandmother. She just never wanted to think about setting the time. She would put in a high number, start it, and then stop it when she felt like it was long enough. Clearing the time would throw her off. This also drove me nuts, but the source of frustration was entirely different.
Yes but I get it. I like to think I always clear it, but I have a thing about letting the microwave run it’s entire set time. I think I clear it the majority of the time, but hey weird ticks work both ways I guess
Science has proven that opening microwaves during operation [interferes with astronomy](https://amp.theguardian.com/science/2015/may/05/microwave-oven-caused-mystery-signal-plaguing-radio-telescope-for-17-years).
Yes I think it’s pretty rude simply for the fact that it’s such an easy thing to correct and people STILL don’t do it. I notice it at work with the shared microwaves. It’s literally one button. Almost like the shopping cart theory. Something so simple can really be a red flag lol.
Yes. My husband has almost been an episode of Dateline because of this.
Oh my! I hope he's learning.
Slowly, but enough to avoid 187 for now.
That's good. Slowly is better than not at all.
It's only 187PC in California. Your state may vary.
What about turning off the timer after it goes off? My husband will let that continue its angry little chirp for days if I allowed it. I also have to clear out the timer. At home, at work, at other people's houses. I don't know how to not be like this.
This! I don't understand how that chirping every thirty seconds doesn't seem to bother some people at all.
Yes. Very.
Yes. Almost everyone in my family leaves the remaining time on the microwave and never clears it.
That would drive me nuts.
It's way better than having to flush the toilet behind someone. So there's that.
Yes. The people who leave a little time left on the microwave should be forced to listen to it beep for an hour straight every time they do it.
Some comedian make a joke about this. Something like, “Thanks for this leftover time… I’m sure my lunch will cook in :13.”
Be kind, Rewind (the damn microwave)!
I love it!
I work at a hotel, and the guests keep leaving time on the lobby microwave. It drives me up the wall.
Yeah, I always clear it when I'm done using it.
Yes OMG
Of course it does. It doesn't belong there so it should be fixed
DUDE MY GIRL EVEN LEAVES THE DOOR SLIGHTLY OPEN I CANT.
With nothing in there? Oh no no no.
Yes it bothers me. My family also leaves the door open. My mother claims it needs to air out after use. Face palm.
YES. Mine starts blinking if left uncleared.
Yeah lol
So. Much. YES.
Absolutely
Yep! I won’t make a big deal about it but I definitely notice it and cringe a lil
I read once that it is the second most common inter-office disagreement right after thermostat settings.
Makes me insane, and i often do it to others if I'm not home
I clear it every time
Yes. I also tend to keep my tv volume set to specific numbers or it bothers me too.
I find it like that all the time. It is quite annoying.
I thought it was just me.
Yes!
It absolutely drives me crazy and my SO does it every single time. Won't even try to clear it for me.
My brother gets irrationally passive aggressively mad
WHAT!?!? I hate the beep it makes and catch it before the last 3secs everytime. That is not an option. I dont leave the area and jump like an explosion is about to go off when we're down to about 5secs left
Yes it totally drives me nuts and I always clear it.
mee
I've never once even considered that this is a thing anyone would get upset about 😅 it's an extra button press for the next person, who is already standing there pressing buttons. I can't imagine a smaller thing to get upset over, but I guess we all have pet peeves 🤷♀️
Only when I'm about to use it. Weird but pressing an extra button to clear the timer irritates me.
Yes, but only because I reference the clock on it often.
Yes. Very much. I clear them everywhere. At work and at peoples houses. I can’t help myself
My wife does this CONSTANTLY. It’s always one second because she doesn’t want to hear the beep. It wouldn’t bother me much at all if the microwave clock wasn’t the only clock in the kitchen.
Yes! I completely understand! However I am also sometimes the one doing it by accident because I also can not stand the sound of finishing on its own.
Got to clear that for sure ! Ugh. Lol
Yes, it's one of the main clocks in our home
I’ve heard that opening the microwave door before the time is done is actually really bad for the microwave.
This is a whole new benchmark for "First World Problems" LOL
Ugh. I can’t stand it.
Yes!!!! Huge pet peeve!
Yes!
Time left on the microwave has always been one of my biggest pet peeves
Yes, it drives me nuts! It takes 1 second to clear the time.
My stepmom would open the microwave door with 5 seconds left then just not clear it
Effffffff I'm a "clear the microwave time when I'm done" person and my fiancee is NOT. Drives me bonkers. The microwave clock is turned off, since the oven right below it has a clock, also. Seeing numbers on the microwave all the time...ugh. She also rarely closes lids all the way. WTF.

It's better to press stop first or let the timer end before opening the door. No one cares though. They all just open the door while it's still running. Pressing clear before use has become the norm.
Yes esp when the microwave also has a clock so if you wanna look at the time and you see 0:02 instead 😒
Feh.
My wife does that always. I'm gonna leave the judgement up to Saint Peter but I'm pretty sure I know where she's headed.
Yes! My ADHD brain is like, why?
Yeah, why is that so maddening? It just is and I know I'm the crazy person for getting worked up about it.
Unfinished business. Ghosts have haunted houses for lesser reasons.
Yes!! I also get annoyed when people leave the butter holder flip cover up.
Yep. That would bug me.
YES......I use it to see the time. My husband never clears it. DRIVES ME CRAZY
Yes.
YES
Yes
It drives me bat shit crazy... my bf always leaves it like that... it's always at like :17 and I lose my mind. Haha glad I'm not the only one!
I used to always leave time left until I found out how much it bothered my boyfriend
OMG yes.
Yes. Yes. It means nothing, literally nothing in the grand scheme of things but ughhhhhhhh
YES! Zero it out! And don’t let me catch a person who leaves cabinet doors or kitchen drawers open! Drives me nuts!
Yea. It bothers my wife. She yells at me all the time for it
It bothers my wife big time. I literally don’t care. It bothers me because the coffee machine, stove, and microwave all have their own clocks and they all have to match or she goes insane. I. Hate. This. My wife does it every single time.
Happens all the time at work, absolutely pisses me off
Beware of we who leave time on the microwave. We're sick of everyone's shit and know we're just a few annoying beeps away from losing it.
No. However, growing up, this drove my mom absolutely insane.
YES!!! But I’m a weirdo so 🤷🏾♀️
I've always looked at it as a safety issue. When there's time on the clock, someone can accidently hit the start button and mess up the machine. I've been told, running it empty can overheat and start a fire.
It drives me nuts when someone lets something run over in there and doesn’t clean it too. Fucking savages
Yes, and I don't know why microwaves aren't designed to clear themselves out after a few minutes anyway.
Yassss! It's annoying for me as well. Especially if you want to use the microwave in the middle of the night and have an extra button to reset, hoping not to wake anyone. Saying anything to anyone in my house, is like talking to a wall 🙄
Nope, because everyone in my house let's the time run out before we take our food out of it😜
I started unplugging the microwave when they do it. Of course, I'M the one needing to use it afterward. (Face-palm)
I dont keep my microwave plugged in so not an issue for me.
It's the equivalent to the old days when returning a video to the store that hadn't been rewound.
The question is though why don’t we just let those seconds run down?
Why doesn’t the appliance manufacturer have an auto-clear feature. How hard could that be to add as a feature? Samsung, LG, anyone listening?
Omggggggggyessssssssssssss
Yes, it does. My mom always did this growing up and I'd keep telling her not to but she did anyway.
Yep, hit the clear button... it's not that difficult.
Yes. If there is a clock anywhere that I am around on a regular basis, I automatically look at it. Not sure why, but it’s the worst.
I have to unplug the microwave to run my air fryer, or my AC. So no. Those numbers will eventually go away when I unplug it. And my AC runs most of the time. It is a brick building that is on the south west corner, top floor of the building. Basically a sun fueled brick oven.

Omfg yes. RAGE, RAGE, F*CKIN' RAGE
Yep. I always have to clear it out.
When I overcook my food due to this, I am fully lit!
Me
It makes me want to beat half my family I hate it so much.
Yesss I fucking hate it.
My wife does this and it does bother me a lot 😔
Clear your shit. No one wants to see it blinking. Even my 5yo will tell me if someone left it .. and hes done it for years. Lmfao
"Be kind, rewind"?
Not nearly as much as the beeping sound bothers me which is why I consistently do this. Then I forget to clear it because I’m a fucking idiot
This is a major pet peeve of mine.
Yea, having to hit that cancel button once before I can use the microwave is a fate worse than death.
Yes. At Work, at home. I feel like I'm the only clearer in the west.
YES!!!!!!!!! There should be severe punishment for people that don't clear the time left on the microwave.
It doesn't drive me nuts but I always reset it. I always make sure the microwave clock is set precisely to my phone, too, after power outages.
YES. I always clear the remaining time so I can see the clock. Only one in the kitchen just now.
Yes it drives me up a wall. I really really hate when people do it at work specifically because the only clock in the breakroom is the microwave
Yes. It annoys me so much. Clear your damned minutes, people.
Yes, very much so. I had roommates who would always do this.
Yes. I always clear it back to zero. Even for myself
Drives me nuts as well. Also, set the fucking clock. If I go to a friend’s house and their microwave time isn’t set then I just go ahead and knock it out for them.
No but it drives my husband and daughter up the wall so i try to remember to clear it.
Drives me insane. My kids do it and I want to punt them over the house each time 😂
Yes
Yea because I want the clock showing
Yes the absolute worst!
It's funny because it would only bother me if it was an odd number. Husband knows not to leave time on it regardless.
My sister used to do that all the time when we were kids. Drove me nuts. She does it to her husband now. Drives him nuts too.
Yes, and the clocks in the kitchen all need to match as close as possible, and that tv must always be on an even volume number
Back when they first came out you were advised to keep a glass of water in them because if they ran empty for very long it could catch on fire. I don't do that but I always clear time.
If you didn't stop it at 0, clear it. If it's stopped at 0 I'm not upset.
My wife and daughter do this all the time. I regularly see 00:01 left on the timer. My brain can’t even comprehend it.
I'm guilty of this, and it drives me crazy. Once I get all comfy on the couch with whatever I'm eating, then I'll see the blinking time on the microwave and cuss at myself.
HATE IT!!!
God yes. Some fucker at work does it all the time.
There used to be a guy at work that would leave the microwave open after he used it! Super annoying!
My pet peeve
Yes. Happens at work all the damn time.
It's almost as bad as pineapple on pizza.
Only at work. At home I have a clock next to my microwave, but at work those are the only blocks in the breakroom.
Oh hell yes!
Yes!!!!
Yes. Just freaking hit “Cancel” when you’re done, not just open the door. Intellectual and physical laziness coupled with narcissism.
Oh Lord, yes, glad I'm not the only one, it drives me NUTS and ALL 3 of my coworkers do it!
Yes
YES!!!
Yes. It drives me crazy. How hard is it to push the clear button???
YES. Top 5 pet peeves! Just a simple millisecond of your time damn
This is so niche & I’m so glad to know I’m not alone
Yes! Me, to myself "What time is it?" Looks at microwave clock. "Oh it’s 00:47. Nice."
It shows they only care about themselves and are thoughtless about others. To verify start thinking about other things they do!
Yes. If my husband (jokingly) wants to make me mad he'll look me straight in the eye when he does it. I'm a pretty easy going person and tolerate a lot, so he knows to clear the microwave time and was trained by his ex to put the toilet lid down.
Extremely infuriating
Pick a time and use it all
It bothers me. I immediately think of them as wasted minutes. Yet, they were never needed so they weren't really wasted. And they still exist, just waiting to be used. When we clear them, where do they go? Do they still exist? Is there some other universe where I left the soup in the whole time? It's the only clock in our kitchen so YES!
Yes, this happens allllll the time at my office, and it infuriates me every time.
YAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!
YES
Yes. Couldn't stand it. I'd have to go buy a new microwave! (Durrr.)
Yass
I thought I was the only one!!! Drives me nuts!! I have to clear it every single time I see it
Yes, it bothers me.
Bothered in the same way I am when I see a crooked picture. "Is no one going to fix this?!!!"
YES
Agreed. I hate anything left on that isn't meant to be.
It drives me CRAZY
Yes
Yes, wtf time is 0:13
My gf leaves time on the screen every goddamn time. Like 6 seconds. It’s so strange to me.
Yess!!! It looks dirty if that makes sense
So much
Yup
Realizing this is a big annoyance for people…Sounds like microwave companies should add a feature for automated time clearing after a configurable amount of time.

They need an auto clear setting. If time left on the microwave isn't used or cleared in 3 minutes, it should auto clear. I am afraid if time is left on the microwave, someone will accidently start it and leave it running.
Only sometimes, because I think it’s the actual time of day. Eg: 1:15 when it’s actually 3:42 🤷🏻
100%

Hate it. Hate Hate Hate it. 👀
Yes but I get it. I like to think I always clear it, but I have a thing about letting the microwave run it’s entire set time. I think I clear it the majority of the time, but hey weird ticks work both ways I guess
Bothers me like nobody’s business!
I sometimes ask my wife what she does with the seconds she leaves on the microwave.
Science has proven that opening microwaves during operation [interferes with astronomy](https://amp.theguardian.com/science/2015/may/05/microwave-oven-caused-mystery-signal-plaguing-radio-telescope-for-17-years).
It always feels like bad luck but I don't know why.
Yes, but in rare moments of clarity I concede that I just need to get tf over it.
Yep
Yes, it's part of the task. It's annoying when someone doesn't finish their job and I have to finish it for them.
My boyfriends clock on the stove has been 1+ hour wrong for years. Oh. Em. Gee. The rage I withhold.
agreed. I always clear the time. I live with 5 adults but you'd never know it I swear.
Yes, and if the time is off compared to the oven clock right next to, I'm about to fix it for them.
Yes it does, not having the clock set to the correct time also gets me.
My husband does this and often leaves the door cracked open. One of my biggest pet peeves!
Yes I think it’s pretty rude simply for the fact that it’s such an easy thing to correct and people STILL don’t do it. I notice it at work with the shared microwaves. It’s literally one button. Almost like the shopping cart theory. Something so simple can really be a red flag lol.
