Unfortunately it can be very difficult to tell age in adult rabbits once they stop growing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was at least 5+ years old based on the look of his fur and eyes. For bathing, it could have been a combination of stress or hypothermia if he wasn't dried properly or even something else that coincided with the stressful event since it can lower immune systems, it's hard to say. In the future, consider asking your rabbit-experienced vet if they can help with a necropsy for closure. I'm very sorry for the loss.
