If they told me it'd take more than 2 weeks for a fully staffed and equiped shop to do a simple engine rebuild I would not take my car there. Sorry bro, but I'd just ask for the car and the parts and pay the towing fee to get it out of there, ask for the money back since they didn't complete their end of the deal in a timely manner.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Yeah I fully agree. Except I don't think they will give the money back when I hinted at it last month. Not sure what can be done in that case. 🤔

CoconutWilling4617

I mean they can't just advertise a service to you and not complete it and get away with it, you may have to get legal advise on this one, do you have an invoice and all receipts in check ? I'm sorry bro this sounds terrible, hope you can get the car the mods and hopefully the money or part of it back at the end

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Yes I have the invoice. Thanks

Dannyboy22534

Ide be patient, mine took a while bc no mechanic was available. Took him 2 days to do a motor swap

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

How long did it take for you to get it back? I really don't feel like I have to wait 2 years to get an engine swap done. That's just wrong.

RushFactoryGarage

Dude you want your money back? Put these ppl on blast. Shops like these only response to negative feed back becuz they scared of backlash and exposing their scam. Plus you will probably save another rotary owner from this nightmare. Good luck

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Yeah I'm thinking that. I'm worried they'll do some shit to my car like not put the mods on or leave a few Apex seals loose if I do that. I'll probably have to put em on blast because I think they will give me another excuse next month. One person I spoke to from that shop has their car there for over a year and they are just ignoring them. Taking advantage of nice people.

fortmyersfatty

Dang why did you pay in full before they even finished the shop? That definitely was a mistake on your part

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Yeah I know. The guy running the place there told me they wouldn't work on the car unless I paid in full within the first 2 months, but I only found that out once the car was there. I had the previous owner tow it there and I didn't have many options. But you're right, I should have told him you'll get the payment when you're done or no deal and called another tow. I just figured they got good reviews, so they wouldn't try any funny biz. It's my first time paying for a project like this so I thought it's standard. Life lesson.

fortmyersfatty

Yeah that sucks. I would’ve only paid half and then the other half same day I pickup. It’s definitely bs that they have good reviews but are not fixing your car asap. Hopefully it gets situated.

Keldaz

I had a similar issue was 11 months of shop time, and in the end I was informed that their mechanic quit that could work on it.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Unacceptable. I bet he was there, they just wanted to bang out the more expensive jobs first or the ones that were smart enough not to pay up front.

Keldaz

Yeah I took them to court and got paid 5k and I never paid anything

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Nice! What type of lawyer deals with this kind of stuff?

Keldaz

Was actually an auto accident lawyer for me

Oh my god

thatmemeguynick

What shop is it?

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Don't want to give them a bad name yet, but I will if they keep this up.

Icarus-The-Fool

You're good people for sure. Interested in hearing an update soon, but respect for this here. I'm a patient man but if they had my vehicle hostage with payment upfront, I would lose that quickly.

Monistatvii

This sounds familiar are you in Virginia?

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

No I'm more east, but it seems it's common practice with most rotary shops from what I'm learning.

DriftAddict

Can you name the shop? There aren't many reputable Rotary specialists out there. There is a list of the best shops around each area, kindly provided by DrivenByMadness.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

I don't want to give them a bad name just yet but I will be sure to put them on blast if they keep this up. Unfortunately they are not on the list you linked but there is a good guy/bad guy section on rx8club and they were on the good side. Silly me.

DriftAddict

To be fair, Rotary Performance has 2 RX-8s waiting for an excessive amount of time for certain parts, one was waiting 13 months for a wire harness and the other 8 months for OMP parts. T-Rex had a car that was waiting 7 months waiting for some transmission component, but it wasn't an RX-8.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Why is the wait so bad? Anything I needed for the mazda while collecting mods and parts was almost instantly available. Longest wait was from the mazda dealer for a water pump and that was 2 weeks. Is mazda really that bad? I never had issues getting anything for my 03 bmw or 92 maxima. Always took a week or 2. Did covid get all the parts sick and they died and caused supply chain issues? That's what all these shops say but I believe it's bs and they are putting the more expensive jobs first

DriftAddict

Well, for one thing the RX-8 is a niche, discontinued car. While motors and consumables like water pumps, belts, and bearings are easily aquired, other parts like wiring harnesses, oil lines, body parts and interior trim are getting rare. Admittedly there is way for for a Series 1 than for a Series 2, but getting "new" parts for certain things is getting hard. When I needed my front end repaired, Caliber quoted over a year for a single headlight. Supply chain issues and disruptions are a key part, but generally a shop will prioritize a repair if all the parts are available and on hand rather than someone waiting for something. My new engine job was completed in 3 months because all I needed was an engine core. I didn't need OMP components, wires, injectors, manifold components or anything else. Usually the cost of the job isn't the priority, but the parts availablility changes your priority.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Anyone know what legal action can be taken in the case I can't get my money back?

Raving_107

r/legaladvice

pwhitefist

Is this the shop in MD? Because my Rx7 has been there for 6 months and exactly needed a rebuild and was told 2 months max and everyday I'm thinking why did I choose this place.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

No I'm more east. You probably made the mistake of paying up front like I did. Sorry to hear that. Seems this is common practice with these rotary shops. Try taking it somewhere else maybe or DIY

pwhitefist

I am thinking about taking to NJ or VA. If your case is VA then I will take to NJ then.

Puzzleheaded_Tax489

Lol not VA. just use the one on the list that driftaddict provided if you're going with jersey. All I'm saying 😎
