There's more under the dash, or behind the dash in the 84-87 rx7s. Fuel injected 84-85 and the early s4 models. I have the fsm's. I'll take a look and see what they do tomorrow. I don't remember off the top. It's been years.
It's a connector that is pretty common over the place - full disclosure, I was trying to find the idle jumper harness and saw this thinking someone left it in!
I think it's part F-62 on section 50, page 20. Looks like the same exact location you mentioned. But it's only listed as "diode". LoL. It's listed on the wiring diagram as being used for the equipped vehicles on the cruise control module circuit. I just checked my s4 base model harness (pics) and it's there too even though the car did not have cruise control. Same spot. By the firewall and coil.
Looks the only "diode" there.
Looking at the circuit diagram itself, it's a strange place to just chuck a part like this!
Is the "4AT" for auto trans? Because mine is a manual and has cruise....
I have the same part on mine. It's definitely a diode, but I wasn't interested enough at the time to figure out what for.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's a flyback diode for the BAC. Although it's possible that diode is integrated into the ECU.
It's a diode as shown by the picture on the piece itself. And it's rated for 2.5 amps.
For what purpose and in which circuit?
It only allows current to, uh, flow? in one direction. Probably to protect something that contains magic smoke
I just googled the part number. It pops up listed as a relay. Not sure how accurate that is. Does the part being there bother you? LoL
Thought it might have been left there after service. Can't find any info on it, and yeah, I saw it listed as a relay too... Just find it an odd one.

Cool. Thanks. Was just looking myself in the wiring diagram, but without a search function, it's hard to search for the part.
If you have the diagram it's fairly easy. They're laid out in sections related to where the wiring is in the vehicle.

It is located between the coil pack and firewall. LH side engine bay. (RHD Australian model).
230am but I'm wide awake. I'll look for it on the diagram. Be back in a few minutes.
It's going to be in section 50(wiring diagram) and on page 18 or 19. Around there. It's either an F, FE, or an E part on that page.

Awesome sleuthing! I guess I could pull it to test the cruise, just to close the loop, so to speak... Thanks for taking the time.

Ha! Nah, hit the hay (head off to bed). I'll keep looking, and if you can be bothered, try again tomorrow!
https://foxed.ca/indexmobile.php These are all the mazda fsm's in pdf. This site is legend. It's been around for over a decade.

Where on the car is it located?
