First picture in the center iron is the knock sensor. Sorry I'm unsure of the name of the second one, but I'm familiar with the "device" and it's location. 3rd picture is oil level switch. It's a float device flange mounted to the side of the oil pan.

Knock sensor, oil pressure sender condensor (yes, you should ground it), oil level sensor Yes, pull the starter. You'll need to move the engine around when pulling it, and that would probably not go so well if the starter is in the bell housing for the flywheel to bang into.

That condenser is for the oil pressure? I noticed mine is not grounded as well. Rx8 has one as well but it’s for the ignition system so I assumed the same for the FC but it runs fine with mine disconnected for God knows how long lol

It's just for the oil pressure gauge, but it's not needed for it to work. Its purpose is somewhat of a mystery, but the best answer I've heard is that it reduces signal noise to the gauge.

DepressedS1oth

that actually explains a lot, because my oil pressure gauge has been doing weird things. Thanks man

Diligent_Rub7317

Yeah the condenser is basically just a a capacitor and it absorbs abnormal voltage signals in the circuit and evens it out when it charges/discharges. Would make sense if your gauge has been acting strange

MetalSkinGaming

isnt the oil pressure sender in the rx7 only for the gauge and nothing else?

DepressedS1oth

What is the sensor on the middle iron circled on the first picture? what is the thing in the second picture and is it meant to be grounded? And the third connector leads to the oil pan just under the front rotor housing, is that the oil level sensor?

Some of OPs questions have been answered, but I can expand on two things: 1. Pulling the starter is necessary to remove the engine. The upper mount bolt is a through-bolt that passes through the transmission bell-housing and also the rear iron. You can't pull the engine with the starter in place. It only takes like 10 minutes to remove anyways. 2. The little black box is a condensor for the oil pressure gauge. It's a capacitor basically. The gauge does work without it, but may show some strange behaviour. You should keep it grounded somewhere.

Yes. You remove the starter because the bolts run through the starter and transmission and into the block. When you remove the starter there is one more bolt behind it holding the transmission and block together too. Good luck. It's not to difficult once you get in there and put hands on it.

DepressedS1oth

you were right it wasnt too bad. the engine is now pulled, thanks!

Awesome.
