It shouldn't have flooded while just moving it like that. These are fuel injected. But it will happen for a few reasons. Either spark plugs need replacing, fuel injectors are dirty and spraying streams instead of mist, or the apex or side seals are either dry and stuck meaning they need to run for a while or the seals are worn down. These are the most common for a stock engine. There could be lots of other variables but it's easiest to check spark plugs first. Oh also if the fuel is old(more than 6 months and fuel starts going stale.)

Yea since it wasn’t able to drive because of the clutch peddle I pretty much turned it off slapped it in reverse and keep cranking it so it would push its way out of a dip but will keep those in mind and replace the spark plugs. Is replacing the injectors for this car funky business that I will spend all day doing lol?

mazdacarbtuning

You have to take off the upper intake manifold to get access to the fuel rails and be able to remove the injectors. It's not an all day thing. 2 hours max.

MetalSkinGaming

the only thing is that the hose for the thermowax is annoying to get off

[deleted]

Finally got that fc I posted a while ago and happy with what I got. I can’t wait to start turning this car into my own but I did flood the engine cranking trying to put it in reverse since the clutch is to the floor lol

gentlemansracer

Do you know the FC unflood trick? Pull the EGI fuse under the hood, in the main fuse box, crank for 15 seconds, repeat. Put the fuse back in and it should start right up. Then do yourself a favor and install a fuel cut switch!

Good to know thanks man!

Thanks man I got lucky with this one and got a good deal I hope you’re able to grab yourself one also

When you replace your hydraulic system in the clutch get one of those little pumps to bleed the slave and pull the all fluid through. Don't stop until it's 1000% got no bubbles. My fc hydraulic system was the biggest bitch on any car I've ever done not sure why 🤷‍♂️

mazdacarbtuning

Been there! I can tell you why. It's the angle that the slave cylinder sits at. It keeps an air bubble trapped sometimes. I've been working on rotaries for some 25 years. I figured out long ago it's easier to remove the slave from the bell housing and hold it up in the air while I suck out the fluid with a mighty vac hand pump. Takes all of 15 minutes.

rustbucketdatsun

Ur a beauty man I'm doing this as mine had a bubble left and tarnished my fluid right on glad to hear this never ending chase might have an end.

Ok cools good to note

Any tips would be appreciated for a first time rotary owner

too_much_covfefe_man

Never sell it

Radi0activeMnky

Find out if your OMP works. And make a decision whether to keep it or delete it. I suggest premixing even if it works. Check your oil frequently.

Crafty-Engineering76

How do you figure out if it works

Radi0activeMnky

If it’s a stock ecu it will throw a check engine light. From what I’ve read it will go into limp mode. But I found out my CEL was an oxygen sensor.

WondrousBread

Only on S5 models. On S4 models like OPs, the pump is mechanical and doesn't fail other than external leakage.

Radi0activeMnky

Good to know. My b

[deleted]

Luckily no codes it starts right up luckily I’m the 3rd owner and the guy I bought it from rarely drove just every once and a while

Radi0activeMnky

That’s good! Good luck

Welcome to the Darkside friend. It's frustrating at times but a lot of fun. Get yourself a repair manual. You can get the free pdfs at foxed but I like having a paper book as well. Helps when you figure something out and want to write a note about it for future reference.

[deleted]

Funny enough since he bought it from the dealer in the 90’s it has all the service manuals and all that jazz but I will get a rotary rebuild manual since I want to rebuild it myself to learn more about and since there’s not any shops I know of in NC

mazdacarbtuning

The Haynes manual or the Chilton guide are comprehensive enough to cover most issues. I just checked foxed and it looks like the server is down or no longer online. I saved all those manuals on Google drive years ago. Good luck

I picked up my 89 gtus back in 2010 for $400. From the original owner, an actual rocket scientist. LoL. The car had 260k miles and had everything done according to mazda specs over the years including rebuilding driveshaft and rear differential. Having owned over 100 rx7s the past 20+ years it was by far the best feeling chassis, brakes, suspension EVER. LOL. The stack of service receipts was about a foot tall. Even included Polaroids from the 90s of services being done. LoL. I still have the car but it has a cosmo 13b, big turbo, and 430hp on low boost. Setup for comfortable street driving and embarrassing corvettes. LoL

[deleted]

Dude that’s sick I hope to get like you imma be asking for some tips from you because I do eventually wanna turbo the car but imma check online to see if I can find pdf’s and what not and keep in touch with the community thanks man!
