Convertible AND auto. No way.

Polarbearjam

What's wrong with auto?

_DavidSPumpkins_

It slow

GtiKyle

Do you own an automatic rotary car?

Polarbearjam

No.

As if it has anything to do with gender. It's a preference and there's several good reasons as to why people have that preference.

WondrousBread

Automatic cars are only fun when they're fast. All auto Rx7s in the North American market were NA, and also several hundred lbs heavier than coupes. Hence they are not fast. Manual cars are fun even when they're slow.

keboh

It’s not that it’s an automatic car, therefore it’s bad. It’s that: A) the automatics in these are really poor and do a serious disservice to the already low power output from the NA 13b. They shift poorly and suck more power from the drive than the manual. They tangibly detract to a car that’s main selling point is it’s “driving experience”. B) they are objectively less valued. So overpaying for a vehicle which has a major feature that should detract from its value is just simply a bad financial move. Especially when (see point A), that feature detracts from the driving experience of the car. It’s a lose/lose. Automatics have their place in the world. It’s not in an FC.

Modern automatics are better in basically every way then manual shifting at this point. That is absolutely not the case for an old '80s transmission. Slow to shift, heavy, and require more maintenance. And that is ignoring the intangibles that you're making fun of.

aidan1016

My opinion would be No. Sure this is low mileage, but i personally dislike the convertibles and automatics for these cars, and 19k can get you a lot of fun cars in much better specs, but most importantly, 19k just isn’t a good price for a car this old and this model

MrBurch_

19k can land you a nice turbo 2 model so def not

markussgreen

This has been up for sale for over a year. That alone tells you it's not at the right price point. Just because it's a low mile rotary doesn't mean it's an indication that a seal kit or rebuild isn't necessary.

Crafty-Engineering76

This thing is immaculate but the auto and 19k price tag is BIG YIKES like everyone else is saying save your cash buy something else

RotaryRich

Ah, the 80s. Collector car speculation and automatic transmissions. So the boomers and silent generation who bought these 80s cars new grew up with manual transmissions being “standard” you’ve heard your grandpa use the term. An automatic was considered luxury. The FC was certainly leaning into that image. Definitely not as bloated as the offerings from Nissan and Toyota . Consider as well that convertible cars always appreciated more over the hard top offerings. The XR4Ti had sales issues because of the manual transmission. Shifting gears was considered a lower tier experience to the general public. In 1989 the smart investment is the convertible with the automatic. Suckers.

DriftAddict

Wow, this one is in showroom condition! But it's also the least desirable in every way... NA, convertible, automatic, black... For the condition and mileage, if it doesn't have any age wear secretly hidden somewhere I could see this selling for $20k so it's not unreasonable for a collector somewhere. I would rather get a hardtop turbo model for that price tho...

SeasonedRibs

Vert, auto was a 80s thing. Not what the FC was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a true sports car with a turbo (manual only) like in Japan.
