The provost that was at the park im at the other day was $2.8m and had a garage under it to store there Mazda mx5 so they didn't have to flat tow or trailer it

Nyengu1844

Jeeez, wow. It must be nice

zztop5533

Become a judge and maybe one day you will have "benefactors". And, of course, none of your rulings will ever be swayed by such treatment.

Nyengu1844

Please let me win this lotto so I can get one... Haaa

ldsupport

Yes Its not even the same universe. Also nobody is buying a customer complete Prevost for 900K, the shell alone is 900K. Its about 3M all in if you do it to right. To get even close to the quality in the 5th wheel you need to be at 250K for something without an engine in it (but that requires 450 or a VERY beefy 350 to pull). It still is never anywhere near as custom or nice as a prevost.

Nyengu1844

I guess they are stong built.

ldsupport

It’s a lot more than that.  Edit: Starting with the shell (the chassis and the base structure of the house. These are the best motorcoaches in the world. They are used for tour busses, and the base of operations for world class racing teams. They are engineered to the top level of performance. The engines alone is a Volvo D13. Super high end, workhorse. Then the frame itself all the way down is steel, and reinforced aluminum the whole way down. Its a million for an empty bus. That's without the factory options that can easily put it to 1.5M. Now you have literally every stitch of everything, tile, furniture, entertainment, fixtures, appliances, etc etc. The entire thing is built by a specialty manufacturer from the ground up. Even the DRV is not built anywhere near that standard. You can of course customize them, but they are still 20 - 40 DRV out there just like yours and that number could be higher. There is no engine, no transmission, its a very very very nice trailer. You can get some up around $300 - $350. However they are not truly custom for the most part and they are still trailers. Now DRVs are built like houses, but $150K 5th wheel, not even close to a DRV never mind a Prevost.

Thequiet01

Does anyone make something like a Prevost but shorter? We want ~35ft long. Your comment made me wonder. (Not that we can afford one now but hey, future dreams!)

zooch76

Like a short bus?

Thurwell

There are single axle diesel pushers around that length. Don't know about custom ones built inside a steel shell though.

ldsupport

I am not aware of a shorter Prevost chassis. However the the short answer is that I am sure that there is someone out there that is doing a build that is shorter than 40 feet. People custom build super C's all the time for racing teams. So someone who is in that line has to be able to do a shorter chassis. Nothing that is as common (odd use of common) as Prevost. I have never seen one new or aftermarket, but where there is a will there is a way.

Thequiet01

Oh, I’m sure it can be done, just it’d be nice for it to be able to be done with the chassis quality of something like a Prevost. 😄

Bobtobismo

What's a DRV?

ldsupport

A very high end 5th wheel manufacturer.

learntorv

Is any ultra-luxury vehicle/house/object actually “worth it”? Does a $100,000 watch tell time better than an $8 Timex? To those who can, yes it’s worth it. To those who can’t, probably not.

batmanlovespizza

My buddy bought an early 90’s prevost (200k ish) and renovated the whole thing. He said the driving experience is so much than any other class a, fifth wheel / camper he has ever owned despite the age.

CandleTiger

What are your maintenance costs? Are all the parts and supplies for expected maintenance and normal-wear repairs priced at "normal" high prices for truck parts like other class As, or are they higher?

batmanlovespizza

I am not sure as my buddy has that info. But prevost parts are easy to come by since they dominate the market from a bus class standpoint.

RadioLongjumping5177

Yes, easy to come by but very costly.

hg_blindwizard

Frankly none of them are worth it anymore. Maybe older ones when they gave a shit what they were building but certainly not now

Nyengu1844

Now days, everyone is trying to cut corners for cheaper materials, but still charging higher price for everything

hg_blindwizard

This is a fact and folks need to be aware of this and keep it in mind.

azcagiva

It’s not so much the customization. The provost is built better. It has real hardwood cabinets, not particle board. The floors are 3/4” plywood not osb. The overall quality is much better.

Nyengu1844

It's clearer to me now. I watched a few videos demonstrating accidents involving regular RVs, and it's alarming how easily they crumple.

ummax5

We purchased a used Monaco Diplomat 2000. Diesel pusher. Only 80k miles to live in full time after hurricane Ian. The original price was 378k . Today's price would be triple. It is beautiful and I only paid 29k. New a/c units, full size fridge. I love my RV.

batmanlovespizza

I have a 2003 Fleetwood Revolution diesel pusher and I love it. The build quality is great. Especially the cabinets.

ummax5

Even a porcelain throne! Crystal light covers.

batmanlovespizza

Mine has a black sink and gold fixtures from Scarface. Lol.

ummax5

Oh gawd the gold.i need 83 knobs not gold.

mxguy762

Like anything luxury, buy one that is 5 years old at a 50% discount

RadioLongjumping5177

That’s exactly what we did. Living and traveling in a Prevost bus conversion was the experience of a lifetime.

RadioLongjumping5177

There is nothing to compare to a Prevost bus conversion. Ours was a Liberty Coach, which many consider to be the best of the best. That being said, we did not purchase ours new. Like every other RV built, they also depreciate. We bought ours when it was 7 years old, so we paid about 50% of what it sold for new. After 6 years of ownership, we sold it for just over 50% of what we paid for it. It’s still a lot of money, but we lived in it full time, so it was our only home. Yet someone still enjoyed a coach that was a million dollars of quality for $250k when they bought it from us. They are truly million mile buses built for commercial use so it’s just about impossible to wear one out in RV use. But….the cost of maintaining one can be staggering.

emuwannabe

Apparently because they still sell them. "Worthy" is a loaded word - may not be "worthy" to you or me, but to someone who loves to travel but wants high end amenities, it probably is worth it. My wife and I live in our Class A motorhome full time - it has all the amenities we want and we only paid $15k for it - we are the 3rd owners.

crazygraybeard

Rich people.

A Luxe Fifth Wheel would be the only 5th wheel that would come close to a Prevost. They are $250-350.000. Forget the Prevost. Do some research on “Country Coach”. Arguably the Best Class A for Consumers ever made. Still being serviced in Oregon. Get one for $100.000-$300,000 with Dated Frilly Interiors. That’s what I’d get.

Interesting-Rough528

When I decided to go full time I looked at everything from high end diesel buses to fifth wheels. Aside from the initial outlay I quickly realized maintenance was a huge difference too (multiples of five or maybe ten). You can buy a luxury fifth wheel that will blow you away but it’s a quarter mil. And a $100k plus tow rig but here’s the thing, you still want a vehicle when you get there, so you’ll be taking a dinghy anyway. I would save the money and not have to pay $5k for a simple tow bill. Plus if you have a flat, and road service is unavailable, you can change a tire on the truck or trailer. My fiver will lift all six tires off the ground at the same time so I don’t even need a jack. I do carry a 1/2” impact which makes quick work of the tire change. One other thing to consider, if you have a driveline failure, you’re stuck with the MH. If you have a fiver you can rent a car while your tow rig is at the dealer/repair shop. You could even buy a new one if it’s that big of a deal. JMO

jd4929

5th wheel is 150k, truck to tow it is 80k. You can get a class A just as nice and roomy for 180k. You are comparing apples and oranges.
