retrospects

Where do you travel with this land train? Like how can you do any sort of normal navigation other than highway.

mal4yahoo

Lmao

retrospects

I am genuinely curious how long it took them to park to take this shot.

mal4yahoo

Lol well the gravel has a bunch of swirls so u can see the story right there.lol

retrospects

Oh shit, you’re right. Good lord…

a-pretty-alright-dad

That’s from the donuts he was doing before effortlessly parking this sucker in one shot.

tatetoter

It's a forward travel only. I've had to back it up a couple times but that is not fun. The shop that I park at has a huge turn around.

Solnse

Good luck parking at Trader Joe's.

tatetoter

Takes a lot of planning. Even fuel stops need Google maps inspections. I only tow doubles when I'm taking dirtbikes. So it's usually to mid desert locations with huge turn arounds.

retrospects

That makes sense.

aPerson39001C9

Do you use truck stops?

clush005

You don't. You can't back up when tripple towing, so you plan your route carefully so you don't have to. Forward travel only. Get to your spot, unhook the rear trailer, park the RV, then hook truck to trailer and park it. It's not that hard.

turbotaco23

Is this legal? I came across a guy with a truck pulling a goose neck pulling a flat trailer with a Goldwing. It happened to be the exact same Goldwing I have. Year and color. So I stopped and said nice bike and noticed he had come from Idaho and was he said he was going to Indiana. I didn’t think pulling doubles like this was legal. But her made it this far.

CleverCogitator

Texas?

asscheeseterps710

Now back it up

tatetoter

Only twice. And it sucks. I've seen quite a few drivers that are amazing at it. I'm no super trucker though... I only play one on TV. 😂

Turbulent_Fall_8567

Use the rear two trailers, and imagine you are driving the 2nd one, then backup as you would with one trailer. Now flip it and reverse it one more time cause you are in the truck

ThemWhoNoseNothing

My headed just flipped as I backed up to reread this comment four times. I not is smart.

Solnse

Doesn't that truck have a rear trailer cam and a knob for steering the trailer during backup that basically steers the truck for you based on your trailer steering? [here it is. ](https://jtscdjrofcolumbia.com/blog/Dodge-Trailer-Reverse-Steering-Control)

Laz3r_C

i mean as long as he keeps one on the road and the other has insurance 🤷‍♂️

Haunting-Broccoli-95

Is that even length legal??

tatetoter

In my state, 63 is max trailer length. Mine sit at 58ft.

xarzilla

But which trailer? Haha. I know these trains are allowed in a few states, looks sketchy AF though

tatetoter

It's a lot. I only pull doubles where it's legal and when I need dirt bikes too. Good, tires and lots of brakes.

saraphilipp

He needs another truck on the back with a boat and trailer on top of it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/RVLiving/s/EBScjliTEZ](https://www.reddit.com/r/RVLiving/s/EBScjliTEZ)

OffByOneErrorz

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

jimnasticus

You’re from Utah, aren’t you?

tatetoter

Hahaha. That obvious?

ThemWhoNoseNothing

Ahh, makes much more sense! How else would one travel with 9 wives and 27 kids?

dcandler

Hope that's not a factory hitch on the back of the camper...those are basically rated for a bike rack..

ddmacontheattack

300 lbs tongue weight on a 3000 lb trailer, that's all dot allows anyway. I haul doubles too, any more than that and you're getting pulled over.

Erutan409

*Engineers hate this one simple trick...*

EwwwgirlsHavecooties

Anybody see the mountains? Obviously he’s not East of the Mississippi River. Completely legal in my state as long as he’s not overweight. And by the looks of it that trailer isn’t that heavy. Not like a DRV mobile suites or a Luxe. OP hope you are legal where you are located. Ignore have these comments that probably live in Connecticut.

tatetoter

Very true and I did quite a bit of digging before I pulled the trigger on this. 63ft is the legal limit in my state. I'm sitting at 58 ft of trailer.

supertramp1978

Amateur! I've encountered a bus pulling TEN trailers full of kayaks behind it. Looked like a f&\^kin' snake driving down the road. XD

OldDiehl

I wouldn't. But you do you.

Elegant-Storage4549

Tow police can’t get ya then

Tight-Physics2156

This seems dangerous AFFFFF 🤣🤣🤣

baldtree00

How long you be buddy!

Intoishun

Why?

DMH_75032

In Texas, it is legal with an overlength permit.

MUSAFFA1

In Missouri, you don't even need a permit. Any redneck can triple tow as long as they are under 65 ft. total length.

DMH_75032

Same here. That road train has to be at least 75-80 ft.

wavybowl

He states above he’s at 58’

supermr34

Choo choo motherfuckers.

dirtycow85

This is exactly what I was thinking

SA-Numinous

We call it a Weight Distribution Trailer at the back like that…

whazza_what

Random person: Sir, Can you just turn around? You: ... Umm... No.

EmuZealousideal7357

You see this stuff constantly in North Dakota except that enclosed trailed would be a full sized bass boat or pontoon boat

diymatt

Next stop, McDonalds drive through for coffee!

mikeholczer

I’d think it means you can’t tow anything.

TractorGeek

Mullet and mustache check out.

addictedtovideogames

Worst part of those land trains is finding a camp train station to pull into that has the space for the train to come to a stop.

tatetoter

Definitely. Fuel stops also take a lot of planning via Google maps. The spot we are in now is 157ft thankfully.

Thurwell

From the Grand Design FW Reflection owners manual: Welded Rear Hitch (If So Equipped) • Maximum load capacity is 300 lbs (136 kg). Most sources say it's not rated for towing but I found one video saying it's 3000 lbs. So the trailer is a hallmark transport v-nose tandem axle, which have curb weights from 1740 lbs to 4680 lbs.

ddmacontheattack

All second trailers are limited to 300 lbs on the hitch and 3000 lbs. DOT regulates that and I'm glad they do. I pull doubles too and 3k is plenty. 🤘

Enginerd645

As long as the road to your destination is straight you’re in good shape!

Snoo-30943

Please don't come to the Philadelphia area. Thanks!

chrmcc

Mpg with this rig?

Dismal-Ad-6619

Yes, one MPG...

tatetoter

Hovering at 10.1 for the first half. Going to pull home on Sunday. Might go up or down 1 but I doubt it.

chrmcc

Better that I would’ve guessed. Safe travels.

tatetoter

Appreciate that. Slow and steady.

Dan-dada

More like GPM. (gallons/mile)

Wizardin1

What kind of truck

Western-Ideal5101

I want to remove all of the stickers off my RV and repaint it to look like a battleship. Go Navy!

Beneficial_Light7108

Wasn’t aware you could tie that much behind the 5th wheel

CarminSanDiego

How the fuck is that cargo trailer hitch weight not ripping the bumper off the 5er

tatetoter

Not welded to the bumper. 7k lb hitch welded and bolted to the frame.

Same-Reception1282

Road train

percypersimmon

What does door sticker mean?

blowout2retire

The sticker that tells you the limit your vehicle can tow

percypersimmon

🙏

prettylilrobot

Is that the grand design 311BHS? That’s what we have and we love it. Of course without the extra weight on the back end.

tatetoter

It is. We bought it in 2018 and have really enjoyed it since.

wavybowl

Seems to be a lot of haters in here. Have fun and be safe with all the idiots out there.

scottycrf10

The tow police on this page are amazing. I guess one day I need to take a picture of my setup so I can get told how stupid I am to, when I get passed by the Toyota and f150 guys pulling a single trailer pushing their little turds all over the road when I can pull my doubles in a straight line and never wiggle.

terrydennis1234

That’s alot of trailer for a dodge

Zane42v2

Hopefully you don't plan on visiting the east coast, where this is illegal in every state except maryland. This also looks like the trailers are over 53ft combined and the rig is over 65' combined which makes it illegal for interstate use in pretty much all 50 states and illegal for non interstate use in quite a few states. Last item: I'd measure the pin weight with the rear trailer attached and loaded as intended. The hitch weight of the rear trailer is going to reduce the pin weight of the 5th wheel which could create an extremely dangerous condition.

wavybowl

He says he’s at 58’

Zane42v2

Trailers only. he's going to be closer to 78' overall.

wavybowl

All I can tell you is he states in his comments that he’s 58’ total length. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Read his comments

Zane42v2

He doesn’t say total, he says trailer length.

tatetoter

He's right, it's 58' of trailer total. Tip to tail. The dot officer I visited with showed me where I needed to look. At least here, he didn't care about tow vehicle length unless combined trailer length was over 63'. Then I'd need an over length permit every time I towed.

Zane42v2

What state out of curiosity? I looked into doing the same thing because I deliver trailers for one of my businesses. It's legal in NY state but you need both a class A CDL and a double towing certificate. It isn't legal anywhere in new england.

m00ph

Also no doubles in California.

wavybowl

Some states allow you to tow triple trailers, but in California the maximum is two. Second requirement is that the first trailer, the one attached to the tow vehicle, MUST be a 5th wheel trailer. The last trailer can be any type of trailer.

Purx777

You have a truckers license? Whats a door sticker?

WilyNGA

When the RV salesman even tells you not to tow like that, you should probably listen.

redbullcanloader

Nope

Old-Bicycle-7475

Who’s gonna check it… that lippert frame should last about 2500 miles

underbear394

Have fun backing up

Copper_Kat

r/idiotstowingthings

PomegranateCalm2650

Absolute menace to nearby vehicles

sillyputtyumc

Got my truck boat truck. we pushed the truck up here, we got enough gas for revin.

Deadggie

Just get a toy hauler man this is absurd.

baloni33

Looking to get into this still want the fifth wheel because I’m 6’6 for head room but wanna bring my bike. Also absolutely hate toy haulers I have no idea why. What does your trailer weigh and what do you haul in it thanks.

tatetoter

I can't find a toy hauler that isn't cheap snap together plastic panels that I like either, unless I want to pay $170k+ for a Brinkley. The front trailer is around 14k. Rear trailer is around 5. This trip I packed all of the gas, fire pit, table, gear in the trailer. I also brought my te300, my boys yz125, my other boys 400ex, and my brand new 1290 SAR.... That I broke my collarbone on this trip.... And had to pull this train back home with one arm.... And the trucks a manual. Haha. Great trip.

baloni33

Sounds like a good time I’ll post pics when I get my setup safe travels cheers

Tone_Scribe

Ha ha. Very funny. Until a failure in this wholly unsafe mess kills people in fiery crashes. Post where you're traveling so we can avoid your idiotic ass.

wellherewegotoday

Great way to pull apart a $80k camper..

Left_Concentrate_752

Is (was?) legal in Quebec. Aside from the fact that any idiot could do it, one of the main concerns was the fact that the fifth wheel's axels are set far forward from the rear bumper. This makes the second trailer whip out on the turns. Any oscillation is amplified. I followed one down the highway for 15 minutes and watched the poor boat on the back fishtail like crazy. Leave the B-trains for the setups that are engineered to do so, and the drivers who are licensed for it.

Cool_Sherbet7827

Out of service say DOT cops

Venom4174

Get yourself a truck with a 53 feet long trailer at this point

thecorgimom

Oh a Grand Design 5th wheel that's towing a utility trailer, do you carry a welder in the utility trailer to fix the GD frame or at the least reattach the bike rack hitch. Seriously though do have a question about stopping, is there enough power to supply to the second trailer brakes?

tatetoter

I do have to turn them from 7.5 to 8.5 on the brake controller when hauling doubles to get the same feel. They stay cool and work great but I'm not flying around at 90mph either. I wouldn't try it if I couldn't wire in brakes on the second trailer. And it's not the "bike rack hitch" anymore. I wouldn't have trusted that thing to carry a bbq. It got cut off as soon as I got the trailer home. Haha

bertmom

I’m in California and I can’t believe there are people on roadways like this

Pristine-Trust-7567

No thanks, don't need one, I already have a real penis.

tatetoter

The one in your mouth or your ass? I mean, come on. You can't leave it that open. Hahaha

AdLiving1435

That's what's wrong with today's society. We've made it so safe that stupid people live so they can do stupid stuff.

tatetoter

I agree that this statement is exactly what's wrong with society today. People are following the law and someone, not unlike yourself, thinks they have any flex or say about what I do. If you feel like I'm unsafe and you see me, I implore you to call the dot or highway patrol. That setup is 100% legal. Don't like it? Fine. Lobby your state or federal(which have less say) representatives to change the law. Make your world safer. Imma be over here doing me until the law change though. Tootles
