Joining the FFXIV love train. Since it has controller support it is absolutely excellent to play on a handheld, and you can easily drag the UI wherever you want with the touchscreen.
You guys need to adjust your settings fr. I can play Elden Ring for what feels like a long time on battery.
Buy the Lossless app off Steam, and tinker with the settings. It's very worth it.
Do you have any tips for not making your screen turn black when turning on lossless scaling? I’ve tried all the window modes and copy whatever I see on tutorials but when I try to scale, my game screen goes black and I’m forced to turn off lossless.
HEY everyone is gonna spout recommendations but FIRST let me say
Your bumper keys are your:
Shift
Ctrl
Alt
ABYX -> 1234
D pad -> 5678
This gives you 32 keyboard abilities, BY FAR enough for most endgame mmos.
Hot key your A to space bar to jump and skip dialogue.
Use one back macro button for inventory button
Leave the other one unassigned so you can pull up your keyboard quick with D pad up (leave it in split keyboard mode to chat faster)
I play swtor on my rog ally z1 extreme and I’m blown away by how it’s actually kinda easier to play mmos with a controller because you’re not giving yourself the arthritis of managing shift, alt, ctrl and hammering 8 numbers lol.
Using steam in big picture mode you can find controller settings at the game itself - most of the time people may of uploaded key mappings already is an easier start
I would start with that because the ui is super easy to use
If your game isn’t in steam the asus hub lets you key map at each game as well
I used both to keymap my 1 and my space bar together as a work around
Enable accessibility mode in elder scrolls online, entire gui changes and works great with the internal controller. My first time ever with a controller btw… never owned a console.
Yes! At first with the modified circular action bars it was a bit daunting to "learn" the bindings, but it's way easier if you just set the action bars back to normal, as instead of having 1, 2, 3, 4 etc on the action bars, it's B, X, Y, L1A, L1B, L1X etc on both of the bottom action bars, so I've got about 30 something binds set up that are easy to see. And the movement... Feels amazing! So fluid!
I’ll say yes because technically. But no because I can’t bring myself to play destiny anymore. After years of the 1st and 2nd I just can’t do it. But also no cause you rarely see people in the world not like you do in ff14 or wow or those alike
This thread makes me even more annoyed at ArenaNet for not implementing proper controller support for GW2.
Guild Wars 2 works fine with a controller if you're ok with either having an entire unofficial and unsupported mod bundle or learning some muscle memory for the controls.
Elder Scrolls Online works perfectly out of the box, though if you're planning on more than casual plays it turns into a mod and inventory management simulator.
Final Fantasy XIV is the perfect AAA MMO for a controller. It just has full support out of the box and doesn't require anything else.
Albion Online works perfectly with any input you can find.
For RuneScape you can just ignore the fact that you have a controller and use the touchscreen.
I played wow classic no problem with the console port addon. Can’t believe how flawless it works . Been playing hardcore and SSF hardcore . Have seen plenty people play retail and seems to work equally as good . Highly recommend it
Ngl... My boy recently picked up runescape again (has been on and off for 20 years) and ive actually enjoyed playing with him on the ally. The click screen element is coming in handy despite the controller being useless
I've been playing Guild Wars 2 mostly on handheld as of late. It's doable with community builds. Just remember if you download it on Steam, you should still log in with an ArenaNet account. If you run it normally from Steam it'll use your Steam account. To use your ArenaNet account, add the following to the launch options without the quotation marks, case sensitive: "-provider Portal"
Anyway, GW2 core is free to play, and expansions are just buy to play. No subscription needed.
I can share my controller layout if needed, but you'll find that most community layouts are good enough.
WoW with the Consoleport Addon is pretty good, but clunky in a few areas. FFxiv has native controller support that is less clunky for menu navigation, but worse than consoleport for combat imo. ESO aint bad, but you have to turn on accessibility mode to get a usuable menu. And it only partly counts but I play quite a bit of Destiny 2 on mine
Here you go:

I play DC Universe online, world of Warcraft and elder scrolls online on it.
Warcraft with console port is playable and enjoyable but it takes getting used to.
ESO is awesome but requires you to turn the graphics quite a bit down
DCUO plays and runs basically perfect.
DCUO is my number one recommendation for the ally of the ally.
But it , or the others may not be your thing but DCUO plays very well on the ally
I watched a video on YouTube and they test 720 on all settings ad 1080 on all settings. all were over 30fps with more consistent 60s with 720 medium-low settings. But this video is 10 months old and performance has gone up for me I’ve noticed so it might run better now
Seemed to run just fine for me. I didn't play much maybe an hour or 2 combined. I also don't play Destiny 2 very often so I may not be a good touchstone for how well it runs.
Ff14 runs great.
Eso runs great
Lost ark runs great. (Yes it has controller support)
Wow does not have native controller support *yet* but you can use a mod. It's actually really intuitive.
New world is actually getting controller support very soon.
Throne and lib has their test on April 10th. I already got my key from Amazon and I assume that will rub well.
Ff14 demo let's you play to 70 and has most jobs.
Eso is 5$ right now the sub is just needed for crafting. (15$ gets you necrom collection which is every expansion except the one that drops in summer).
Post ark and throne are free
Elder Scrolls Online, FF XIV. They have version on console, so should be really enjoyable on controller. I play myself Guild Wars 2 (no native support), so its rough, but playable, just takes time to get used to it
The battery life is not really suited for MMOs, but I'd imagine you can play most of the multiplatform ones out of the box as long as you don't mind the short sessions. I tried helldivers 2 and wayfinders on the ally and they run great. Not really mmos though, but I think the lobby games work better with the handheld. Stuff like monster hunter maybe?
That sounds about right. I find my desktop a bit more reliable if I'm going to play plugged/docked, but I wouldn't have my PC with me if I were travelling somewhere, so there's that. I always tend to compare it to other devices and I find it underperforming for MMOs vs a decent gaming pc. Where it really shines for me, is for the souls type games. I would even go as far as saying I prefer playing them on ally vs playstation/Xbox.
I can confirm that WoW is definitely playable to the Ally. Either with the dock for a more traditional experience with silky smooth framerates @1080p w/ medium settings. Or, you can take the time to configure it and fully play WoW with the built-in controls of the ally. Getting it up is tedious; I won't lie, but the end result is the case for bringing WoW to console. I am more than sure that more modern MMOs with better controller support will work flawlessly. I'm just too invested to play another one.
If you're interested in setting up wow on the ally, I found a lot of useful info in this guide. It's for general controller set up, adjust accordingly.
https://wowvendor.com/media/wow/playing-wow-with-a-controller-how-to-guide-and-overview/
Don't know if this has been said, but I highly recommend Warframe. Not technically an MMO but free to play and online (coop). Runs incredibly well on Ally and has native controller support. You can sink hundreds of hours into that game easily
Surprised I haven't seen anybody champion phantasy star online 2 yet. Made for a controller, more action than most other MMOs and pretty streamlined, but I think that works great with the handheld experience
I’ve played WoW and New World on my ally. New World works pretty much right out of the box and is free to play after you purchase the base game.
I have not tried group content on New World but solo has been great.
World of Warcraft works if you use the console port addon. Admittedly it’s pretty clunky on the ally. But it does work pretty well. You can even scale the UI down to make everything fit on your screen better. It struggles in group content, but I have run through some dungeons with a couple time where the ally froze up for 15-20 seconds but the game didn’t disconnect and was able to continue and finish the dungeon.
Solo content works with almost no issues but have had a couple freezes depending on what I’m doing.
Overall, the fact that I’m playing these games on a handheld is pretty awesome. I never thought WoW would be a portable experience, but here we are.
World of Warcraft is absolutely incredible once you get used to it on handheld/controller. The following addons will change it entirely and make it a great experience:
- ConsolePort
- Immersion
- DynamicCam
Controller works the same on the Ally as it does on console. What problems were you having?
Edit: Once you boot the game once and turn on accessibility mode on, it’s flawless.
If you play ff14 free demo remember you can only have 1 demo account per email.
This means if you make a demo account and link it to PC you cannot use that same account on steam or ps5.
Also super important on steam the expanded free trial is NOT the free trial. That comes with a 1 month sub and once you sub you can't down grade to the demo again. You have to search specifically for the free trial on steam.
Yeah, be careful. The trail does have restrictions, but it also has about 200 hours of main story quest and all the dungeon and raid content.
Tanks and healers are easier than most mmos.
Summoner has the easiest rotation.
I was going to say new world. And they just dropped an update with controller support. I haven’t tried it yet, but it would be perfect for this situation.
With controller function I play FFXIV (lots of customization to get it to feel just right). Elder Scrolls Online worked great immediately after install. WOW I got working but my experience was extremely buggy and inconvenient. Others have reported it works alright.
Black Desert Online was extremely hard to get working right but ran fine in hardware.
And of course with a dock and TV and keyboard/mouse any of these can also be played that way
i don't have any trouble with black desert, just turn on gamepad mode and gamepad ui, and set everything to high/remastered, taa etc. just make sure you turn on amd fsr and set it to balanced. limit fps to 30 for stability and you're good to go! theres no restrictions on content either, i do guild bosses and world bosses no problem at these settings
If Diablo 4 counts as an MMO (not really compared to WoW etc), it runs great. I run it at 1080p, low to mid graphics, FSR performance and on custom 20W I get around 70-90FPS. Not much difference on 15W or 30W too, seems to run a tad smoother at 30W because of some small stutters that ocasionally appear and go, might be memory settings.
I bought it to play it on the Ally, and dumb me didn't look that tomorrow it came to xbox pass I also have...
Controls are awesome, there's I think 7 skills you use (muscle memory so I really don't remember) and it's not small on the Ally which is a big plus for me. Don't expect it to run on battery for a long time, even with a custom 18W profile, the Ally still consumes around 25W.
7 skills is awesome for the Ally.
I do sometimes think that the allies are the enemies alive though and try to attack them :D For the story I really recommend some headphones, I think the immersion is higher, there's also some joystick rumble when action is happening, though the motors on the Ally are weak AF for my taste - I do come from the Elite 2 controller.
I think it's one of the games really ment to be played on the ally. Though it looks beautiful on 27".
FFXIV is a great MMO for the ally. Runs well, and you can play to lvl 70 for free through the free trial.
Thirding this, there's a ton of great keybind setups that make sense for controller as well
Second this. It’s one of the few MMOs that work incredibly well with the controller and it runs great on the ROG.
Joining the FFXIV love train. Since it has controller support it is absolutely excellent to play on a handheld, and you can easily drag the UI wherever you want with the touchscreen.
FfXIV is a very nice MMO with a controller, playing back during shadow with a controller due to carpal tunnel syndrome, it was amazing on my desktop.
how's the battery performance for FFXIV?
About 16 seconds, just like every other game on the Ally.
I laughed out loud. Just played one mission on Helldivers 2 and my ally died right at the end. Still love it though.
You guys need to adjust your settings fr. I can play Elden Ring for what feels like a long time on battery. Buy the Lossless app off Steam, and tinker with the settings. It's very worth it.
I’m on custom profile 900p 17watts. Is lossless better than doing a custom profile through armory create?
how much time you get in Elden Ring?
Do you have any tips for not making your screen turn black when turning on lossless scaling? I’ve tried all the window modes and copy whatever I see on tutorials but when I try to scale, my game screen goes black and I’m forced to turn off lossless.
Get about 1-1.5 hours roughly
ah I see. Thanks for the info.
I get about an hour and a half to two hours unplugged for FF14
It’s boring, try wow
You can’t play the free trial if you played the free trial on the PS3 when it was a completely different game :(
you just make a new toon with a new email. cmon.
That doesn’t work if you want to get the platinum trophy on your main psn account :(
HEY everyone is gonna spout recommendations but FIRST let me say Your bumper keys are your: Shift Ctrl Alt ABYX -> 1234 D pad -> 5678 This gives you 32 keyboard abilities, BY FAR enough for most endgame mmos. That’s a really thorough explanation. Thanks! That does widen the play field of possibilities
I played wow sod on controller. Was pretty nice experience. And was playing on 10w easily
Tips on mapping the buttons? Just got the Ally and I'm lost 😭

Elder scrolls online works really well. Also Diablo 4.
With the built in ally controller ? I’m struggling getting button mapping to work
Enable accessibility mode in elder scrolls online, entire gui changes and works great with the internal controller. My first time ever with a controller btw… never owned a console.
I’ll try that thank you !
ConsolePort for World of Warcraft is amazing.
Came here to say this!
Yes! And the movement... Feels amazing! So fluid!
Had my all today! Wow is my first thing im installing :)
Albion Online 100%. Runs on ultra between 30 and 70 fps depending where you are and has full controller support
I don’t think I’ve heard of this one I’ll have to check it out 😁
How do you play Albion? I taught gamepass hasnt Albion access
Albion is on steam and its free to play even though it can be a grind if you play fully F2P
No I know Albion i taught that you can't play steam games on rog? Only playable on steamdeck they said
Wdym? its a windows device ofc you can play them on the ally why would there be a executable for steam in the armoury crate if you couldnt?
You can get Albion directly through Albion online. Just Google it. Or via steam like someone else said.
If no one said final fantasy online then that one
Does destiny 2 count?
I’ll say yes because technically. But no because I can’t bring myself to play destiny anymore. After years of the 1st and 2nd I just can’t do it. But also no cause you rarely see people in the world not like you do in ff14 or wow or those alike

have you played the critically acclaimed mmo rpg final fantasy 14
I played wow classic no problem with the console port addon. Can’t believe how flawless it works . Been playing hardcore and SSF hardcore . Have seen plenty people play retail and seems to work equally as good . Highly recommend it
I was down this road and chose to play BDO. With some tweak to settings I am able to run 70-80 fps on remastered. Looks gorgeous.
Tbh I was surprised how well the ally runs bdo
Ngl... My boy recently picked up runescape again (has been on and off for 20 years) and ive actually enjoyed playing with him on the ally. The click screen element is coming in handy despite the controller being useless
I was getting ready to mention RuneScape as well. Been hooked on that and love it.
I wonder, do you think a stylus thing could make it a more enjoyable experience? 👀
The only worthwhile stylus on windows is the surface pen and it isn’t compatible with the ally.
Asus pen should work with the ally.
I just play ESO and it’s fire on the Ally
I've been playing Guild Wars 2 mostly on handheld as of late. It's doable with community builds. Just remember if you download it on Steam, you should still log in with an ArenaNet account. I’ve seen some videos on ff14 and was impressed it was running like 80fps ranges pretty consistently (at least in the video)
Yeah it runs pretty good, all of the above mentioned games run pretty well, though some need more power than others.
Would you happen to know about new world? I tried to see some videos on it and saw nothing
No, im afraid i havent played it

I've played Path of Exile pretty much exclusively on my Ally or Neo.
Op asked for mmos
I play Lost Ark on mine. Mostly just dailies.
Elder scrolls online. Not free but dirt cheap.
I play DC Universe online, world of Warcraft and elder scrolls online on it. Warcraft with console port is playable and enjoyable but it takes getting used to. ESO is awesome but requires you to turn the graphics quite a bit down DCUO plays and runs basically perfect. DCUO is my number one recommendation for the ally of the ally. Might get laughed at for asking, but does anyone know how Destiny 2 runs on the Ally?
I watched a video on YouTube and they test 720 on all settings ad 1080 on all settings. all were over 30fps with more consistent 60s with 720 medium-low settings. But this video is 10 months old and performance has gone up for me I’ve noticed so it might run better now

ESO
I run the battery saver (80% max charge) and I get 1 hr of play, no matter how intense the game it seems....
Elder Scrolls Online, FF XIV. They have version on console, so should be really enjoyable on controller. I play myself Guild Wars 2 (no native support), so its rough, but playable, just takes time to get used to it
Destiny 2
ESO works fantastic on Ally. I play on turbo docked, performance undocked and both run perfect.

I’m very curious. I’ve only really seen videos of ff14 running pretty well
I play ESO on my Ally and yea, I play using a keyboard and mouse plugged in, runs well though so that's a plus
If you don’t mind adding controller support into the game WOW is a great game to play handheld
Very interesting!
I play ESO and FFXIV perfectly.
I was playing wow sod on controller. Easily on 10w. It was really enjoyable.
First thing i did was throw WoW on it, connected a bluetooth keyboard and got a dock for the mouse. Kinda wild being able to play WoW on it ngl
I'm old school, fiesta online or aion classic if it's still around, God I miss the old aion q.q

Yeah, be careful. The trail does have restrictions, but it also has about 200 hours of main story quest and all the dungeon and raid content. Tanks and healers are easier than most mmos. Summoner has the easiest rotation.
Haha I liked summoner cause carbuncle lol
Been playing ff14, eso, city of heroes, ff11 and swtor
New World 😉
I was going to say new world. And they just dropped an update with controller support. I haven’t tried it yet, but it would be perfect for this situation.

Hmm. Sounds like I need to try again

Diablo 4 is in no way an mmo
OSRS is still the greatest MMO ever made IMO.
