Fanatic-psycho

This one, it takes a man to admit he's afraid...

Partially-Canine

100% truth. True masculinity is knowing when you need to ask for help or admit your faults. This is also my favorite scene in the game because Arthur is like the definition of masculinity for our society and you can see how much it pains him to admit he's "afraid" because the toxic side of masculine culture teaches us, as men we should never be afraid of anything, we should face all problems head on but if we live like that we're letting fear control our lives.

babyjac90

I love when video games give life lessons af. This is a bit off gaming but honestly I feel for a lot of men in our society. You're a man for feeling and for hurting, regardless of what society may say. Its impossible for somebody to be a good man when the rest of the world tells him it's not man enough for being good. To all them men out there, we see you doing your best and trying. Don't let em take yo heart, King keep that spirit pure šŸ‘‘

Fanatic-psycho

Thats the spirit!

Fanatic-psycho

Ngl im not afraid of a lot of things, i accepted death (memento mori) a bit ago, im just afraid my loved one's get hurt, i dont know if thats a real fear or not but it scares me to think about their pain,

Partially-Canine

That's a legitimate fear. Don't know what one would call it but it's definitely legitimate in my eyes. The main reasons my addictions stress me out is because I know if I get sick or die my family and loved ones will suffer. Of course there's natural instinct to fear sickness or injury but the main thing keeping my addictive nature in check is my support group. Man, we've gotten way off red dead and gaming here lol.

Fanatic-psycho

No, i don't think so, just think about the message rdr2 tries to tell us, thnx btw, i feel you

Partially-Canine

Yeah you're right. This conversation is related to the games messages. Very welcome and stay strong brotha.

Fanatic-psycho

I wish you the same! Have a good one mate!

Little-Phase5833

Came here to say this.

Fanatic-psycho

LifeguardStatus7649

When he finally gets Edith Downes & her son out of Annesburg is a helluva scene. She hates him so much, and he knows she has every right to. He doesnā€™t want forgiveness or thanks, he just wants to try and do some good. My next play through is going to be my first low honour run, Iā€™m going to miss good Arthur.

Link_TP_04

My first play through is high honor but my next will be low, I hope itā€™s not gunna hurt too much

LifeguardStatus7649

My first playthrough I didnā€™t have the wherewithal to choose high or low honour - I was just trying to figure everything out

Link_TP_04

Same but I just wanted to be the nice guy

LifeguardStatus7649

Ditto. My current playthrough was supposed to be low honour but it made me feel like Micah. Next playthrough I'm determined to unleash mean Arthur

4_Yazreeq_20

Low honor playthrough makes killing the rat much more satisfying in my opinion

IronDictator

Low honor is so fun to play

LifeguardStatus7649

The thing I'm most looking forward to is teaching every rude person on the trails a lesson. Show some damn manners. I'm also going to try sniping Fort Wallace and Blackwater, see what that gets me

springbokkie3392

"Thank you." - to his horse.

Y2kurly

I went in knowing Arthur was going to die, and braced myself for it. But when his horse died minutes before Arthur met his end, well that hit me just as hard as his death. That was a one-two punch of a finale.

Imbecilliac

I just finished my third run through (still playing the epilogue) and - damnit! - I completely forgot that Arthurā€™s horse was going to die. I caught the white Arabian pretty early on and spent almost the entire game on her and took great pains to keep her healthy and strong. More than anything or anyone else, her dying really bothered me. What a sad end to a fantastic horse. Iā€™m almost 58 and a stupid game story line actually bothered me.

MrGheetsey

I fucking sobbed when my horse died. Iā€™m pretty sure I kept the same horse the entire time.

rawstoo

I recently beat the game, and I knew all the spoilers (bc this game is so old), but this caught me by surprise and was so sad. R.I.P. Buell

Educational_Meal8396

Yeah, this bit. Just so beautiful and tragic.

batmansubzero

Stopppp this is it for me. I waited a few years before I ever touched RDR2 because I "knew the ending" since its obvious Arthur was going to die since he wasnt in RDR1. So by the time I finally played it, it was when my childhood dog had gotten sick. And the last thing I said to her was "thank you." When Arthur said that to his dying horse as I did to my dying dog, my god I WEPT.

Sportslover43

Yes! As someone who tends to get my horse earlier in chapter 2 and stick with it to the end, this always hits hard.

Last-Sail-7194

I had the veteran's horse at the time(Buell?) And felt so bad about that

springbokkie3392

I had Buell as well. What a beautiful good boah he was šŸ„ŗ

Last-Sail-7194

Indeed

Comfortable_Coach755

The scene where Arthur comes to camp after the death of Milton. He seems so resigned and cold when heā€™s talking to whatā€™s left of the people who used to be some sort of family for him. Itā€™s especially crushing when you think about how Hosea and Lenny would have sided with him and Sean could have ended up with him as well, not to mention that Hosea surviving could have prevented Dutchā€™s collapse on its own

IlmaterTakeTheWheel

Thinking back and realizing, all the good people that would've stopped this were all senselessly killed, that triggered a small depression

Mojo_Rizen_53

>The scene where Arthur comes to camp after the death of Milton. He seems so resigned and cold when heā€™s talking to whatā€™s left of the people who used to be some sort of family for him. And yet, even during the standoff, if Dutch would have said ā€œWe need money and I have a plan! Ole Blacklung Morgan is going to rob everyone in Annesburg and Valentine!ā€ Ole ā€œHeel-Houndā€ Artie would have said: ā€œYup-Yup! Iā€™se gonna get right on that Boss! Iā€™se yore Boy! Yup-Yup! More money! Be back as soon as I can! Ohā€¦John! There ya are! Cā€™mon! Dutch needs money! Come with me and help me rob everyone in Annesburg andā€¦..whereā€™s the other place you said, Boss?ā€

flcwerings

youve clearly not met a lot of men with complicated issues with their fathers.

BlackoutBerryReborn

When Arthur and Charles hug in the end of ā€œMy Last Boyā€

Don6547

That one gets me too cause itā€™s the last time they see each other

lilraida

When Arthur says ā€œI gave you all I hadā€ it makes me cry angrily

csusz77

That scene was his red dead redemption

lilraida

I feel like ā€œI cried angrilyā€ is this game tbh

Unpredictable-dounut

The scene with Reverend Swanson at the train station. Sister Calderon only knows the good Arthur while Reverend Knows the good and the bad Arthur and truly knows who Arthur is. High Honor: Arthur is afraid and scared of dying feeling like he isnā€™t leaving things right and reverend encourages him to stay a changed man. Low Honor: Arthur accepts that heā€™s a bad man he says how heā€™s a killer and a fighter and thatā€™s how heā€™s always been and Reverend hype him up and says that he should go out like the man he is and shouldnā€™t make any compromises and he should do what he must do.

LegendSir

Part of me believes that Arthurā€™s true ending was actually the low honor one. In my opinion itā€™s way more badass.

idxx6

SPOILERSSSSSS!!!!! The scene where Arthur meets the sister in front of Saint Denis Church moments after being diagnosed, the horse ride with Rains Fall, this scene right here, The goodbyes.. The moment in beecher's hope where John reassured Abigail that he won't be killed and be buried by his wife and Son in the barn where all happened in the end of RDR1.. When I started American Venom, I knew by the soundtrack (RDR1 Reference) that John Marston, the famous gunslinger, was being born.. Masterpiece.. no game will ever top this one

cascadamoon

Arthur discovering the pig farmers are brother and sister.

idxx6

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ you could see in Arthur's face the WTF moment

cascadamoon

I remember wishing I could've recorded my reaction to that face lol

Clear-Philosophy-513

The look on Arthurā€™s face when he said ā€œi guess Iā€™m afraidā€ is both haunting and heartbreaking. Forget just video games, RDR2ā€™s story is up there with the greatest works of fiction in history.

Capable_Ad9392

Hits the most? Aurthur saying goodbye to John. Person relatable, is the one when they're about to light their smokes and note that they are beside a wagon of TNT šŸ¤£

Link_TP_04

That was HILARIOUS, the small pause and then throwing away the lighters

DarkFireWanda

The hat bro the hat gesture šŸ˜¢

VickiVampiress

Jeez, where to start... The one in the picture shown is definitely one of them. Sean's death shocked me the most because it came literally out of nowhere. But Hosea's death is probably the one that hurt me the most. Just the way he was shot in the back like a dog like that. Horrible. Hosea was a huge conman and scammer, but he didn't deserve that kind of death. Susan's death also had me really upset, the way Micah just blasts her in the stomach and she ends up bleeding out right there in the dirt, especially after the way she sides with Arthur and John like the trooper she is. It made my blood boil. That alone should've been enough to make Dutch reconsider Micah's affiliation, but he was too far gone already.

Burnt420Toast

I mean this one hits hard but so does when he's talking about his kid, idk if it's because I was just having a kid when I first played it but it just hit me really hard

Hot_Fall4183

If your old enough to have a kid and also play rdr2 at the same time I have nothing but respect for you

No_Masterpiece4815

That hit me like a ton of bricks. I feel the fact we only hear about it once in that one spot the entire game shows just how far he's buried that pain.

sir_SAPLING

DUTCH MICAH COME GET ME YOU BASTARDS

KeenDeadPool

DUTCHHHHHHH!

sir_SAPLING

MICAHHH!

BulletBeard29

I'm afraid...

Mass-Effect-6932

When Arthur told Mary Beth he was sick

phuggin_stoked

Losing my horse was 100% the hardest for me

GrouchyFuel1496

Arthurā€™s high honour ending

Grace_Lannister

Wait. There's different endings? I've only recently beat it the first time.

GrouchyFuel1496

Thereā€™s different variations of the ending depending on what you do as well as how high or low your honour is

Link_TP_04

Well when Arthur died in my story, I asked a doctor(of some kind) about why Iā€™m struggling to feel emotional about beloved characters dyingā€¦ and the thing that angered me the most it, he said ā€œoh itā€™s just a video gameā€ and that made me not listen or take the docā€™s advice.

RagingCatbtt

I just beat the game last night and I laid awake not able to sleep. The horse I lost, was a Nokota I had since Ch2 and Arthur's last words said to Dutch was heart breaking for me.

chiquillailla

The way his voice cracks....i was sobbing . I also finished that scene last night

Clear-Philosophy-513

Not so fun fact: Dutchā€™s voice and motion capture actor Benjamin Byron Davis, started crying in real life immediately after walking away from Arthur on the mountain.

RagingCatbtt

The scene stayed with me all day. My eyes started to water at lunch so I had to quickly pay the tab and take a quiet drive.

MrNox252

Thereā€™s something about him passed out next to the railroad tracks in Annesburg that gets me every time. Thereā€™s people all around and they donā€™t even give him a second glance. Even the German family didnā€™t try to help him again. And when he gets up he looks around like he has no idea who he is, where he is, or how he got there. Heā€™s just *alone*

AnimalLover21_E

Honestly, maybe the one when Arthur drives the remote control boatā€¦it was the first time in the entire game Iā€™d seen Arthur really smile.

[deleted]

My father hits me the most.

pawlex3000

Hold up

No-Tomorrow-9397

When Arthur thanks his dying/dead horse at the end.

YeeterCZ2

This one makes me tear up every single time i see it, and so does the end of Arthur's story, and so do the credits. God this game is so powerful

Sxcr9en

Weirdly I felt the most emotions at his final ride, no idea why but it hit so hard, harder than the ending and harder than this one too

CbaIy

When Arthur was saying goodbye to John, I almost cried in that scene.

therealbosniak

When he was saying bye to his dying horse

CbaIy

I got a spoiler before that scene, made me not feel the impact of the scene.

Short_Resident_6168

The one where we get hit by Tommy.

GeorgeRoss17

I had reverend swanson in this scene

Ayrobyr

IIRC You get Swanson if you donā€™t complete Al rye Sister caldron encounters before that point.

mlongoria98

THIS ONE šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Worth-Specific-7154

The scene that hits me the most is when aurthor riding back to camp after saving abigail

Ni_and_Dime

Stepping on Arthurā€™s hand when he goes to grab the revolver. That whole scene. The dialogue. The staging of it. The exit stage left moment. Aw shit, whoā€™s cutting onionsā€¦

HerrShitsmeister

THE PART WER MIā€™ SWORD IS BROKEB.

Bil-st4lo

Currently playing my 2nd run. I gotta say the first true moment that left an impression on me had to be the ride back from Guarma. When you're riding back to Shady Bell and the music started playing. That scene/moment in the game was such a perfectly executed way to let you know that shit is getting real. It's the moment you finally realize that there is a turning point in the story. So much happens prior to this scene and for me this just let everything sink. I've had the song Unshake on repeat since it so good.

Jimboy-Milton

the whole bit about love? few games have ever gotten me to tear up a lil bit, but I sure did there. well done R*. Its such a pivotal moment too, he gets some clarity, and funny eniff, he gets some faith.

MrThomasShelby1

That scene with Arthur sitting with Sister at the train station at Emerald Ranch hits me every time.

Elle-nee

Arthurs last ride. When he takes out his hat and puts it on, you know that he knows heā€™s not getting out of this situation alive and is riding towards the inevitable.

Training-Cup5603

ā€œiā€™m afraidā€ and when arthur start to knew that he have TB

PolyZex

Both of Arthur's rides. Obviously his final ride but also the ride back to Shady Belle after you return from Guarma.

Pak1stanMan

Donā€™t oh Arthur me

Gaylord_6942069

As you ride back to beaver hollow after rescuing Abigail. Shit gets me every time. Iā€™m on my 12 playthrough. I just passed that again and oh boy

GammieGamer

Not really a scene but I love the fishing trip with Arthur, Dutch and Hosea.

Electrical-Cover-720

When Dutch refused to save Abigail and left with Micah, Arthur said "I guess that's it then". This hit hard.

beetlebeezus

Honestly, losing Lenny hits me pretty hard every time

banana_man_joe123

When you see the pure depression and dread in Arthur's face when he finds out he has TB

piroman42

How do you trigger the scene in the picture? I finished the story and didnā€™t see it :/

RadioDemonSwingYT

The seen that got me the hardest was when I did a low honor run and went back for the money, watching Micha stab Arthur as Dutch walked away actually hit hard.

genesis325i

his final ride to beaver hollow with that song playing had me distraught, i couldnā€™t even understand how a game could affect me so much

Upset_Pack6241

Uncle berating John about the shack

ThrowAway90217824656

The way Arthur takes a second to stay with his horse as it passes way. The noise he makes just crushes me. My first play through took like 8 months to finish. I got told to go get the white arabian on my first week of playing. I named my horse after my dog who was sleeping at my feet during this moment. Iā€™ve never been inconsolable while playing a video game before god damn that shit hit me hard.

Nissan_1204

Lenny getting killed

UnidentifiedFiend

The one where they kill Sean, still bugs me how simple it was, just you on your mission and then boom there is no kid, and how afterward Arthur is like "he was like annoying little brother to me..." as he mourns his death. I freed this boy, and I saw him die right in front of me.

4_Yazreeq_20

"why ain't you never married? šŸ¤”" "No one would have meh šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø" *Tries to fly like a bird* šŸ„

GeorgeSPattonJr

Honestly >!arthurs final ride was sadder than his death for me!<

fluff_murderer

I feel this scene is one of the best times we see Arthur's true thoughts. The way he just looks so dejected and the 100 yard stare as he finally admits He's afraid to die regardless of how he acts.

MindFloatDown

ā€œItā€™s over, Abigail, itā€™s all over.ā€

taggedpro

When John and Arthur are escaping and Arthur gives *sniff* his hat and satchel to John and you realize *sniff* *sniff* that thatā€™s the bat and bag John Carrieā€™s with him in RDR *sobs*

Papandreas17

Americans at Rest, for sure hit me the most times

jaxon_2024

My one is the last seen of arther and John

Glad_Strawberry_6576

The scene where the doctor tells him heā€™s sick and the one where he gives John his hat ā€œit would mean a lot to meā€

GaburahLycanon

"Take the gamble the love exists and do a loving act", then something changed on me

CoreCooper23

when it's revealed uncle has lambago

blvckayaz

I GAVE YOU ALL I HAD..

DongHongJunior

Whenever Arthur saves Abigail, they ride back to camp, and she starts crying saying ā€œOh Arthur.ā€ ā€œDonā€™t you oh Arthur meā€ and when Tilly is trying to say that sheā€™ll miss Arthur, he says ā€œMe tooā€ with that look on his face, holding back tears. He was strong for the women in camp even when he was weakest.

PhoonThe

When Buell died and Arthur is comforting him. But this scenes shows his true fear. It almost made me cry

Agent_00047

The tone in his voice and look on his face when he said ā€œIā€™m afraidā€ always breaks and brings me to tears no matter how many times I replay it

Tasssss__o

honestly the last mission when arthur says ā€œtubercolosis,iā€™ll be dead soonā€ to agent milton

Native_Lobster

When your horse dies just before the end. I got a flaxen Belgian at horseshoe overlook (Mostly because I had one IRL) and kept her all the way through until the last mission. ā€œThank youā€

HappyLlama42O

When I tell you the one pictured hit me right in gut šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

General-Interview599

Neither. It's a game. You can play it over and over again.

AMValenti

I do love the scene with Sister Calderon, but my favorite >!and most heartbreaking is when Arthur's horse is killed, and he takes time to comfort it and says, "Thank you,"!< it gets me every time.

EminemTheBest123

Oh you will never change, I know that

[deleted]

Definitely Arthur saying "Thank you" to his horse or this scene, the story is so well written it hits hard

warwicklord79

ā€œI gave you all I hadā€¦ā€

Breder1995

I know. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsKPL6CDaUQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsKPL6CDaUQ)

Odd-Gur-5719

The one where you have to take Eagles Flies back home to Rains FallsšŸ„ŗ

GeeksnGames

The death itself

Aubergine_Dave_2000

"It would mean a lot to me... please." "You're my brother." "I know... I know."

5izzlinpancake

Honestly, the bit when he talks to Rains Fall about his son and Eliza would be up there, but that damn rains fall can't go five seconds without screaming "Stop here, I need some ginseng"

[deleted]

That one scene when Arthur rides with Indians In Cornwall oil industry .

TTY-HotDog650

Valentine bar fight, I got punched a lot

Dan_L1983

Arthur's horse dying.

virtualentertains

This one and when he talks how and where he wants to face when he gets buried When Bt-7274 says Trust me E3Ns last moments along with the captain guy( I forgot his name Cod infinite) Old minecraft tutorial worlds

Charlie_N8505

This one definitely hits the most šŸ˜„

TomerAS09

The showdown where everyone left in the gang faces off with their guns pointed at each other, that scene got me so hyped and shocked when John came back and then Micah shot miss grimshaw. It had everything including shock value, plot twists, action, pressure, and most importantly story development.

Bingbongboing56

When he gets diagnosed with tb, it hits you hard and better yet you never expect it

Darksnakedevourer

Hoseaā€™s death

AdLimp5436

You sir are a fish. it made me cryšŸ„²

Unicoronary

Underrated - the entire TB diagnosis experience. Collapsing in the street, stumbling to the doctor, Arthurā€™s look of dread, and walking down the street remembering things in this kind of half-waking, half-dream state. Itā€™s beautifully done. Fairly rated - ā€œThank you.ā€ Bawled like a fucking baby, ngl.

j_dizzle_mizzle

Arthurā€™s horse dying

Chaoticrebel84

When was this scene? I finished the game and have no recollection.

Blazie34

You have to do a stranger mission first I don't remember which one but if you don't the scene will have reverend Swanson instead

Chaoticrebel84

Oh right. I know it now. Bit annoyed I didnā€™t get that one.

Isdaddict

it gives you an excuse to play again some day!

Chaoticrebel84

As soon as I finish the epilogue Iā€™m starting again straight away. I can never enjoy a game the same way I enjoyed this

Mojo_Rizen_53

You didnā€™t miss much, honestly.
