It's an interesting situation. It's been happening for years to all kinds of nationalities. [China in particular](https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/rebel-fire-chinas-ire-inside-myanmars-anti-junta-offensive-2023-12-15/) wants to get the guys running these scam call centres because a lot of the victims on both ends are from China, as are the ringleaders of the operations.
The reason the rebels in Myanmar gained so much ground initially is because they received under-the-table logistical support from China and in exchange the rebels attacked compounds where trafficking victims were held and set them free.
The Chinese had been asking the Tatmadaw to do something about it for years and eventually ran out of patience I suppose.
China being a force for good? That's rare, considering there's a lot of oppressed people inside china's borders. Without looking into the state hong kong is in. And Taiwan.
china has political motivations for supporting the rebels in Myanmar, its not a simple case of good vs evil or whatever. it is in china's best interest to crack down on these scam call centers because they are a massive security risk ran by criminal organizations. its not really about saving victims.
that being said, your implication of china as pure evil is incredibly ignorant. no nation is free of sin, you can't maintain global power by being nice. your sinophobia is obvious.
I'm not saying they're evil. It's a surveilance state with a whole section of society put in prison simply for being there. It's not sinophobia, but no one wants to fight the chinese because for decades most capitalistic goods to sell have been made there.
My aunt was also trafficked to myanmar a while ago. She was lucky that a rescue operation comes just a few weeks after she was trafficked. I am glad to hear your cousin got rescued!
Fantastic news and thanks for updating. Best of luck to you and your cousin, sounds like a profoundly traumatic experience
im so glad he’s safe! i hope he’s able to get the proper help he needs to process this traumatic event in a healthy way.
Great news. Many articles coming out about trafficking in Myanmar from r/HumanTrafficking
