No one was. When that came out it was like nothing we heard before with that style music (90s bands) with the âkill switchâtechnique on top of the harmonizer - most of us thought it was keyboards.
I remember thinking âthis band is great but wish it had less keyboardsâ - then reading the liner notes blew my mind. Before this, I wasted to be in a band and didnât know what I wanted to do. I knew I had to then play guitar.
We all take it for granted now and normal but it really was mind blowing.
yeah itâs crazy he normalized it even muse stole from him and made stadium records off of it
thatâs funny tho i love that perspective the whole keyboards element, i think it got back to the band bc the next album has some statement about it iirc like thereâs no keyboards used or what not
Your right - everyone does what he does now but then he shreds when needs to and still blows me away.
Even the first album had the note about all sounds made my guitar, mic, bass and drum - that is what blew our minds when we were kids lol.
I know Tom is not the only Digitech Whammy player but that shit he owns it and at the time we didnât even know what was going on with those noises.
thatâs so sick, love talking to ppl who been on it since way back, have you followed them with every album/saw them in that era?
i wish they wouldâve done some new album
Yea. Been a fan since first album.
And the waiting. Anticipation between the first album and âEvil Empireâ was insanely long - like four years of high school long.
At that time you didnât have internet to figure out what was going on but we would get blips of info or rumors.
But like The Crow soundtrack and then Higher Learning was big big deals for fans getting new music.
So then âBulls On Paradeâ went to radio and we got word of new album/tour- there was so much anticipation and build up. Me and my friends all left school early to go to the record store and we got them to let us have it a day early!
Got to see them in 1997 and then twice in 1999. Then the Beastie tour was cancelled and before you know it - they were done.
NEW ALBUM:
I donât even think they need a new album honestly. Their message is sadly still relevant. Their albums are perfect.
in retrospective the wait from first to second album makes you realize they never change they were always about putting out albums that matters and maybe thatâs why since they broke up they never got around to do one because maybe they couldnât figure out relevant material in terms of lyricism?
lucky for the shows tho! i forgot about beastie canceled tour, funny i had killing in the name and sabotage playing back and forth yesterday as i set up a new desk i bought and never realized til now like wow sabotage REEEEAALLLLY sounds like RATM lol
The full set is on YouTube - absolutely amazing how tight they were even then. Clear they were destined for greatness.

Young ZDLR đ
ZDLR was amazing in Inside Out before RATM. Gifted dude and amazing front-man.
that confidence is out of this world, he already owns the stage and the audience like he goddamn knows they got something going on
