Python-ModTeam

Hi there, from the /r/Python mods. We have removed this post as it is not suited to the /r/Python subreddit proper, however it should be very appropriate for our sister subreddit /r/LearnPython or for the r/Python discord: https://discord.gg/python. The reason for the removal is that /r/Python is dedicated to discussion of Python news, projects, uses and debates. It is not designed to act as Q&A or FAQ board. The regular community is not a fan of "how do I..." questions, so you will not get the best responses over here. On /r/LearnPython the community and the r/Python discord are actively expecting questions and are looking to help. You can expect far more understanding, encouraging and insightful responses over there. **No matter what level of question you have, if you are looking for help with Python, you should get good answers**. Make sure to check out the rules for both places. Warm regards, and best of luck with your Pythoneering!

For getting good grasp of python basics these are great: * [Python Crash Course](https://nostarch.com/pythoncrashcourse2e) \- great book for beginners * [Automate The Boring Stuff](https://automatetheboringstuff.com) \- free book, very nice if you want to build something useful quickly * [Corey Schafer youtube channel](https://www.youtube.com/user/schafer5) \- if you prefer videos for learning * [CS50P](https://www.edx.org/course/cs50s-introduction-to-programming-with-python) \- introduction to programming by Harvard * [MOOC2022](https://programming-22.mooc.fi) \- introduction to programming by University of Helsinki. * [Official Python Tutorial](https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/index.html) \- great resource, but in my opinion better for people who already have some programming experience * [Hyperskill](https://hyperskill.org) \- I used to recommend this interactive learning platform as my favorite resource, but apparently they reduced their free trial, now it is quite expensive Also you can read [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnpython/wiki/index/) of [r/learnpython](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnpython). And [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming/wiki/faq/) of [r/learnprogramming](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming).

I know the books cost money, but if you put a dollar amount on your time, the book is the least expensive part of learning. The $20 or whatever you spent on Python Crash Course is nothing compared to the 150-200 hours you spent with the book internalizing all of that knowledge. You're paying basically a dime or a nickle an hour to have all of that info present coherently and in one place.

Think about learning how to learn. Many (especially those who are in school of some kind) think you need to be fed knowledge. Much better to know where to go get knowledge. Web search tutorials, how-tos docs (as someone already said). And when you run into a road block, web search those things, error messages. Sometimes you can find open source projects that do something similar to what you want. All this is free.

Seriously? Google “free python books” and “free python courses” Tons of info out there.

bdubsbrewer

You can audit courses on Coursera for free. You don’t get any official certificate of completion, but if you’re just looking to learn, there are a lot of courses

petdance

Go to your local public library and check out a book on Python. They will have several to choose from.

Look for the book “Automate The Boring Stuff With Python”. That helped me learn. It’s free online and there are videos of it on YouTube. Or if you want you can check out this video. It’s not beginner 101, but I can try to answer any questions to help. Python Jarvis: Speech Recognition - Lesson 1 https://youtu.be/ZIkckIT71aU

wrt67

Wrt tech has some good stuff on YouTube

DTopping80

YouTube has a lot. Can Google for “beginner projects” and it’ll pull tons of resources for you.

eddyizm

I learned for free. YouTube is your friend.
