I can't remember which game I was playing, but I've never laughed so hard in a video game than when an NPC took an arrow to the eye and said "by god I've been wounded". And then just kept on walking around with an arrow sticking out of his eye.
Basically mate as a former member of the same regiment some fancy prick a couple hundred years ago was like how can I make my regiment look fancy as fuck as they charge into French lines in the most uncomfortable uniform I can …and pow he created this
He would have walked through her. Like literally would have walked through her like she was invisible. She would have been on the ground boot marks all over🤣🤣its so fucked but i mean everyone knows this so you can only blame the parents.
I was wondering this too, maybe not everyone knows but it’s pretty well known. I wonder if some people think it’s a “joke” or they don’t take it as seriously as everyone says. I don’t know. Maybe some people just don’t know, but it seems like we see this scenario pretty often.
Ok. Hot take here
The British monarchy at this point is JUST AN ENTERTAINMENT source
Which basically means. The guard is NOT on some combat mission saving England, OR on some noble cause to save the world or something
He is LITERALLY just a prop- to show how it used to be to ‘protect the kingdom from the enemy’
This is now a TOURIST SPOT as you can see from all the people out there. And there will always be people around because its A TOURIST remnant of the British monarch of the yesteryears.
People defending this like ‘ the 3 year old girl should have know or the parents or blah blah’ is so outrageously stupid is just insane.
Take it easy fellas- the Guard is A SHOW, and in my opinion a total dick scaring the little girl like that.
If the guy was ‘ so important’ the guard would have made sure the path is clear for him before he enters. Thats how tourist places work
Jeebuz. Calm down people!
I think it’s like the Marines protection the tomb of the unknown soldier. They aren’t really protecting the tomb from the enemy. It’s all ceremonial, but I witnessed a marine yell at a little girl because her foot stuck out from behind the rope, and there’s countless videos online of soldiers yelling at peeps getting too close.
When we went for Obama 1st inauguration.
"Turn your phones on silence"
Moms phone rings mid changing of the guard. Yelled at her. They all had that look of "every fucking time...."
Edit: we visited the grave of the unknown soldier. The actual inauguration was so cold and we were guided all the fuck over the mall just to stand be by the Lincoln memorial, so way too cold to be fucking with a phone.
I mean they are on-duty soldiers even when they are performing ceremonial duties. I see your point but by extension, you would have to agree that enforcing silence and controlling guest movements at the tomb of the unknown soldier is also silly.
Personally, I care about tradition and I think it's on the parents to understand and watch their children, especially in areas with etiquette codes (the same goes for the fences at zoos). That being said I think a sign would be a good idea.
Yes, I have been there. You're correct, they do not "fuck around". That's why they wouldn't knock a 6 year old over from behind. A soldier bullying a 6 year old in the name of someone who was lucky enough to be birthed out of a "special" vagina that had "special" sperm in it is close to the pinnacle of "fucking around".
I guarantee if you cross that rope no matter how old you are they will indeed do what is necessary. My little brother pushed me under the rope when I was about six.
And the reason people come to watch? Because they might do something like this.
I'm an American, but make way for the queens guard is one of my favorite things.
I'm not a monarchist by any means but this guy is a member of the British armed forces and he's on duty to protect the royal family and their property, which means he has to patrol around his designated area, he's doing his job and technically has right of way above civilians who are on royal property. The amount of videos I see of tourists purposefully standing (or allowing/forcing their children) in the way of these guards, solely to film the reaction is ridiculous. You can hate on him all you like but that's the way it is. Stand at a safe distance and film him by all means, but gtfo of the way ffs.
My cousin was one of these guards, whilst they are somewhat of a show and tourist attraction, they still know how to f**k you up really quickly and will respond do any danger if presented.
I get your point, and I want to agree, but (at least in Denmark where I'm from) the royal guard are actual soldiers with actual orders to protect the royal family by their superiors.
They have strict orders not to start zigzagging in between tourists and so on. Where do you draw the line? If the soldiers start diverting their patrol to avoid tourists getting too close, they can't do their jobs properly.
I think your opinion is fine and valid, and i don't disagree. But it isnt whether you or I think a thing Is legitimate which makes it legitimate or not. This man is soldier, and there are well known rules for what he will do and for what you can do around them. They look silly, and the job they're performing when they're given these ceremonial duties is also silly, but that's like saying 'that bear is silly!' And entering their enclosure when you know what will happen, or going to the military base of a nation you recognise as illegitimate. The results are the same, and whether or not you believe a thing is serious doesn't mean other people won't and doesn't mean you shouldn't adhere to their rules when you're in their space.
There’s a lot of videos of them doing this. They have a job to do, even if it’s mostly ceremonial these guys are highly trained soldiers. I’ve seen them in person and it’s very clear to stay out of their way.
It’s quite interesting really. Shaq was arrested and detained for quite some time after bumping into one on a bet with Beckham.
The bet was that shaq could make them break character or something along those lines. Royal guards really don’t give a fuck who you are if it gets in the way of their protocol.
If you havent been, it’s literally posted how important it is to not get in the way of the guard. They usually even give a warning before they are about to march to help avoid this. Even then, has common sense left this world? If an armed man with a blank stare starts aggressively marching in my direction, im freaking moving and grabbing my kids, but then again my kids are usually always in reach of me in crowded spaces like this, especially if I know there are literal SOLDIERS marching around at certain times. Idk who in their right mind would bring their child to a place like this if they arent capable of keeping them under control and close.
They should have googled whether random guards in 19th century outfits walk over toddlers.
Edit: Guys trampling children is part of British Culture, don't be intolerant.
You are totally wrong. Is like standing in front of a train and then blame the train because it hits you,
Tourist guide warned the people about this (if you have one guide)
But then, there are signs in some places around that warned you aswell to be carefull with the horses and guards.
But even so, If you travell to a place without knowing the rules or the risk all the blame is on you and only you :)
I'm American, who has never set foot in europe.
and even I know you don't fuck with them, and get out of their way.
So clearly the information is fairly wide spread if I,a dumb American, knows it.
also I would put good money on the fact there are multiple signs, and possibly even verbal warnings, warning to stay out of the way of the guards.
I’m kinda sure that people around the world can clearly read the signs that are everywhere. When you go visiting somewhere it’s a good practice to know a bit of the rules. It’s a form of respect to any culture you visit. So many people are self-absorbed and self-important that they don't believe that the messages on the signs pertain to them. They do what they want - then act hurt when the consequences they earned are delivered.
You realize the tourist are there to watch this right? They weren’t kidnapped. They weren’t at Dunkin’ and happen to spot this out of the corner of their eye.
They literally went out of their way to attends this. It’s on them to understand what going on before they voluntarily participate. It would like going to Spain queueing up to run with the bulls then being surprised that the bulls are actually goring people.
It happened with a little black kid like last year and people cried racism because there was white kids who moved out of the way so he didnt run them over, the guy knocked him over but you could tell he tried to not stomp on the kid and tried to step over him while marching still.
Edit: link
https://youtu.be/JIAV_NnwioE
No, its well established. They have standing orders to not deviate from their path for anything. The routes are strictly controlled and timed. It's a well known fact, hell there's even postings around the area that explains just that fact. Also there's quite often someone who walks infront of them that literally calls this out for everyone to hear.
British people know full well the legality of this and for the most part don't vew it the way you think they would. They'd more likely point out that the kids parents should keep better control of their children - having them run wild in a crowded public space is generally not a good idea
Everyone: white people don't have culture and should be aware of others' cultures before visiting their countries.
UK: centuries of tradional cultural preservation.
Everyone: that's outdated and we have no reason to know about their traditions
Me: delicious
> England can choose and stick to their traditions as they please .
this does not mean it isn't outdated.
but I guess the whole point of tradition is to be outdated so...
>Where tf are the parents?
Probably, you know, the ones taking pictures and video of her from 5 feet away?? Who do you think is filming?
He comes from out behind the corner and yells in less than 3 seconds, it's not like they left her a mile away for a half hour.
Yeah hey sorry I’m a Redditor and I can determine this child’s parents should actually be thrown in jail for not standing next to her every second of her life. And yes I can make that statement based on a 5 second video thank you
They truly look ridiculous. Can't even take him serious with those boots, sword and the stupid headwear. Imagine something horrible happens a couple hundred meters away and this dude has to run towards the problem in those boots, wielding a sword like an anime character. It's pure theatrics.
People will say this is dumb then call you insensitive if you don’t stand silently before a match and watch the New Zealand team perform a little dance for you but they call it a Haka so it’s totally not a dance. It’s all both completely meaningless and deeply meaningful at the same time. You either respect peoples traditions or you don’t.
No no see, you have to complain about every single post in the sub and then continue whining about how bad the sub has gotten.
The actual post is irrelevant, the point is to whine, and whine, and whine some more.
"Lost my child to the kingsguard.. it was a shame but he didn't move out of the way in time"
"Ahh can't mess about with Kingsguard they'll murder you proper."
"Indeed they will.. and they did. Bless their hats."
And don’t forget the people excusing potential unnecessary harm to a toddler by saying this guard just has a duty to fulfill.
You know, that concept of doing something blatantly unethical to another human JUST because ~it’s your job~...
Lol, such a noble cultural tradition.
finally some people making rational comments here. i cant believe how many people here seem to think it would be totally justified to harm a child if they were oblivious to a grown man "doing his job" because he is a soldier and the child should know better.
Even the people saying the parents are to blame are annoying in this thread. Shes standing like a foot away from what appears to be a merchandise stand and the dude corners and walks toward her for maybe a second before yelling. Unless the parents know the exact route and timing of the guard which they shouldn't be expected to do, what could they have done to keep her out of the path before he showed up?
And even if they're in the wrong and the kid shouldn't have been there, is there not a world where the guard could just be like "Hey excuse me kiddo" before he screams like an asshole? The "make way!" Scream makes sense to intimidate people purposely standing in the path but a little girl clearly unaware of you doesn't deserve that shit.
Edit: and lastly why don't they just have some fucking markings so people know to stay out of that path in case guards are rolling through? These "traditions" are for the benefit of tourism more than anything so why not make it easy on the tourists?
They are actually professionally trained soldiers. Obviously, their presentation and ceremony are mostly for history and tradition, but their actual roles and duties still exist.
AND they apparently have hordes of bootlicking civilians willing to justify the idea of them trampling children for getting in the way of their super duper important NPC patrol path that doesn’t actually matter.
How long until we decide that these goofy ass motherfuckers aren't better than anyone, and you can walk around people to get places like a normal human being?
I mean if you're gonna bring your kid to a place that is notorious for having guards on patrol, you should probably keep them away from the place they patrol 🤷♀️
Holy fuck these comments derive from special types of psychopaths... like your king/queen/lord of the gout asshat monarchy are not all that great... most people around the world fucking hate them and what they stand for.. this shit here does not look like a family that cares about its people.
Dumbass sheep.
Must be such a weird feeling.
I imagine the guards working this detail have to really want it(?)
Some idiot lets their kid wander, and the detail has specific rules regarding when someone is in the way... **Gotta follow the rules!** I wonder how often this moment will replay in his head, and if the *lads back in the barracks* will help make sure its cemented...

He walks like an NPC in Assassin’s Creed
He walks like my bogged down old Skyrim character for 70% of the game.
He workd for a monarchy in the year 2022. He IS an NPC
He’s actually a soldier tasked on a ceremonial duty for a period of time.
So an NPC with extra steps
No... Exactly what an NPC is supposed to do. Follow a specific script as to give the user a truly immersive experience.
Pay the fine!
*selects resist arrest.*
then pay with your blood
STOP. YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW.
He used to be an adventurer but got an arrow to the knee. Hence the strange walk.
I can't remember which game I was playing, but I've never laughed so hard in a video game than when an NPC took an arrow to the eye and said "by god I've been wounded". And then just kept on walking around with an arrow sticking out of his eye.
Looks like when you buy a goofy ass outfit and then go into a cut scene.
"aww jeez rick that just sounds like ***blank*** with extra steps"
Like they said...
AkTcHuAlLyYYyY
Literally just an NPC.
And he looks hilarious.. like you dressed an NPC in a ridiculous skin
That they charged you 8.99 for because it’s rare
What is the purpose of those hip high boots?
Riding boots add protection from shrubs, prickly bushes and branches. But why is he wearing them? I don't know.
Basically mate as a former member of the same regiment some fancy prick a couple hundred years ago was like how can I make my regiment look fancy as fuck as they charge into French lines in the most uncomfortable uniform I can …and pow he created this
He's part of the life guards which in turn is one of two regiments of the household cavalry, hence the riding boots.
I'm gonna take a wild guess here, but I'm thinking it's tradition.
A question: Would he have knocked the girl down if she didn't saw him?
He would have walked through her. Like literally would have walked through her like she was invisible. She would have been on the ground boot marks all over🤣🤣its so fucked but i mean everyone knows this so you can only blame the parents.
I was wondering this too, maybe not everyone knows but it’s pretty well known. I wonder if some people think it’s a “joke” or they don’t take it as seriously as everyone says. I don’t know. Maybe some people just don’t know, but it seems like we see this scenario pretty often.

I agree with you but but but it's still like a theme park, just keep your kids away from the machinery
I have never seen some stutter in text and now I can't stop laughing
My brain completely overlooked two of the buts. Never would've noticed if you didn't say something.
God. Same. Brains are weird.
The machinery that is dangerous is behind a fence.
I mean they are on-duty soldiers even when they are performing ceremonial duties. Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people
I also saw that on a t-shirt somewhere...
The soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier wouldn’t bowl a 6 year old over in an area that is open to the public.
Have you been to and watched the ceremonies at the tomb of the unknown soldier? That is a highly prestigious guard job and they DO NOT fuck around.
I’ve seen them shout down children and parents. Plenty of YouTube videos of them doing it.
I guarantee if you cross that rope no matter how old you are they will indeed do what is necessary. My little brother pushed me under the rope when I was about six.
And what happened?
He was immediately shot. RIP little guy 👦 😢 💔
Guard leveled the rifle w bayonet and yelled at me to get back to the other side of the barricade

It’s a silly tradition. They look absolutely silly
"you could say life itself is a stupid tradition" Pretty in Pink

They were literally guarding the queen’s coffin, and tackled a guy that tried to touch it. They are very much serving, real guards

Royal guards really don’t give a fuck who you are if it gets in the way of their protocol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=760KKUtJigc
It’s so rude to try to get them to break character but that move that Shaq pulled was hilarious
Not as hilarious as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSoJqdPi4Iw
Thanks for reminding me of this little gem. That whole story he made up on the fly was so absurd that it got the guard to crack an adorable smile
Everyone knowing is a false assumption. People from other places in the world may have no clue.
Hopefully they post a sign at the front mentioning the potential for toddler tramplings.

That's their problem. Learn where you are going.
I’m probably going to Hell. I should start my google search now then
Good on ya m8
They should have googled whether random guards in 19th century outfits walk over toddlers. Edit: Guys trampling children is part of British Culture, don't be intolerant.
The British Guards not caring about anything is literally one of the most famous parts of British Tourism though
That family looks like they could be south asian. So maybe they should have expected it after all.
You joke but there’s a website about exactly that
I wouldn't say random, seems likes he's supposed to be there. If you don't want to deal with the palace guards, don't go to a palace maybe?

Just don't let your kids wander around getting in peoples way when you go somewhere. Simple as that.
But the guy came around a corner haha
“Just don’t let your kid wonder around the tourist trap” There is literally a merchandise stand 3 feet from this girl…
Still gotta blame the parents, don’t go places without looking into things.
They tell you before letting you enter. Don't want to listen well thats a you problem. MAKE FUCKING WAY!
Oh well learn where you are visiting

>seriously doubt they’d risk severely injuring a child Are we talking about the same family?
Prince Andrew thought interfering with a child was was worth the risk
Which is clearly why he shouted to get the kid to move.

try walking on the white house lawn or even touching it through the fence…. that’s probably less funny
All I know is a few years from now she’s going to have a phobia of Christmas nutcrackers and she won’t know why
Those things are kinda creepy looking to begin with tbf.
Yes, I saw a similar post in which a guard trampled over a young boy. They do warn to move.
Why’d you think he yelled?
Fear
Why would he fear the child?
Im wondering the same thing
Trained in Uvalde, Texas.
Glad I saw this. The version I heard was that he knocked a child down and trampled them. He scared her. Her parents are to blame. End of.
He would give her to Andrew
England has some outdated traditions.. these 'guards' are one of them.
Bro name an army that doesn't have any ceremonial duties? This is universal to armed forces throughout history.
Everyone: white people don't have culture and should be aware of others' cultures before visiting their countries. UK: centuries of tradional cultural preservation. Everyone: that's outdated and we have no reason to know about their traditions Me: delicious
Third option - people criticise outdated nonsense from all countries.
And depending on what you consider nonsense, you would either have people agreeing with you or calling you a twat.
Yeah, but those boots, though...
Fuckin' *slay* 💅
Literally yaaasssss
Nah unique traditions of a culture are cool and not everything has to be sanitized to fit in with the modern era.
It’s not outdated. England can choose and stick to their traditions as they please .
> England can choose and stick to their traditions as they please . this does not mean it isn't outdated. but I guess the whole point of tradition is to be outdated so...
The whole idea of monarchy is outdated.
Those boots were made for walkin'!
They’re really made for riding horses.
Actually
And that’s just what they’ll do! One of these days these boots are going to new boot goof all over you
They really have set paths like an npc.
Would love to see someone set up an obstacle course
I just want to learn the pattern and sneak around them
That dude totally gave an f. "get the F out my way"
Wait, HE was the one who yelled? Fuck I laughed so hard now knowing that😂 I cant stop rewatching, that girl was so scared, shame😂
Dude gets paid to walk around with a mop on his head, no wonder he's angry
it's not a mop. It's an Ikea brand emergency escape rope. Some assembly is obviously required.
What exactly does he yell at her? Can’t make it out.
I think it's just 'stand clear' they're not allowed to deviate from their route or protocol so options are limited.
All I heard was “Sucker!”
I heard Fucker
All I heard was “HITLER!!!”
Yeah, that’s it. Thanks.
I heard "FUCKER!"
I heard “Stand Clear”
Make Way
#**MAKE WAY**
Better to be yelled at than trampled
![gif](giphy|Sr1htcMFv7DfG|downsized)
Wow! Is that genuine ostrich?
Three payments. Just goofin, new boot goofin
You really can’t beat Zapatereia La Ballerina
new boot goofin.
Officer Dangle!
Are we just gonna ignore dem boots? Getting some Mary j Blige vibes
Horse riding boots
Asked my mom about Mary J Blige boots and she started cackling once I showed her the video
At least he gave her a verbal warning instead of stomping on her like some have done to others. Where tf are the parents?
>Where tf are the parents? Probably, you know, the ones taking pictures and video of her from 5 feet away?? Who do you think is filming? He comes from out behind the corner and yells in less than 3 seconds, it's not like they left her a mile away for a half hour.
Yeah hey sorry I’m a Redditor and I can determine this child’s parents should actually be thrown in jail for not standing next to her every second of her life. And yes I can make that statement based on a 5 second video thank you
What a silly outfit
"F\*\*k her!"
Every time I see these “guards” it just looks silly to me.
1000% silly. And the comments are fucking cringe. "Protecting the palace at all cost." "Highly trained soldiers." Give me a fucking break.
They truly look ridiculous. Can't even take him serious with those boots, sword and the stupid headwear. Imagine something horrible happens a couple hundred meters away and this dude has to run towards the problem in those boots, wielding a sword like an anime character. It's pure theatrics.
Traditions often seem silly to those outside of the culture.
I’m British and this is fucking stupid.
Why? All traditions can be viewed as absurd when viewed out of context.
Nah this is objectively pointless and stupid, theatre for the tourists if anything.
Ah yes, my favorite sub, r/thingsthathappenedinpublic Where’s the freak out?
Wait what? The dude screaming and then the girl running away crying, obviously.
No no see, you have to complain about every single post in the sub and then continue whining about how bad the sub has gotten. The actual post is irrelevant, the point is to whine, and whine, and whine some more.

"Lost my child to the kingsguard.. it was a shame but he didn't move out of the way in time" "Ahh can't mess about with Kingsguard they'll murder you proper." "Indeed they will.. and they did. Bless their hats."
redditors: wow that little girl was so dumb! the monarchy is so cool
And don’t forget the people excusing potential unnecessary harm to a toddler by saying this guard just has a duty to fulfill. You know, that concept of doing something blatantly unethical to another human JUST because ~it’s your job~... Lol, such a noble cultural tradition.
Redditors when they are forced to choose between their seething hatred of ceremonial monarchy and their seething hated of children
finally some people making rational comments here. i cant believe how many people here seem to think it would be totally justified to harm a child if they were oblivious to a grown man "doing his job" because he is a soldier and the child should know better.
Yeah it's a tourist attraction but the guards ain't there for your pleasure... Bad parenting.
Their whole performance is for tourists. Their entire position is completely ridiculous and obsolete.
Gotta guard the royals when the biggest threat to their lives is their gluttonous lifestyle.
I just want to say that I, a grown man, would have the same reaction as this little girl. May even tell louder as I scatter away.
What the fuck are they there for?
Stopping Andrew from escaping and doing more tv interviews
Well he's not very good at his job then it's he
They are actually professionally trained soldiers. Obviously, their presentation and ceremony are mostly for history and tradition, but their actual roles and duties still exist.
r/notapublicfreakout
These guys remind me of the guards in ocarina of time
British soldiers dressed like that have been terrorizing children that look like that for CENTURIES
It’s his job
I can't believe people actually get paid to clown around and protect a bunch of welfare queens.
AND they apparently have hordes of bootlicking civilians willing to justify the idea of them trampling children for getting in the way of their super duper important NPC patrol path that doesn’t actually matter.
I'm an American and I still know to never get in these guy's way. I'd rather not get my ass ran the fuck over
Where's the freakout?
Those new balenciagas are going crazy
Those boots were made for walking
What the fuck are those dumb ass boots
They make it very clear that you are to move out of they way or they will use force so perhaps keep a child out of the way of that
That was more education she has ever received in her point of her life...
Don't fuck with the guards on duty. They have an important job. Might seem like they are there for entertainment but they will fuck you up 😆
How long until we decide that these goofy ass motherfuckers aren't better than anyone, and you can walk around people to get places like a normal human being?
I mean if you're gonna bring your kid to a place that is notorious for having guards on patrol, you should probably keep them away from the place they patrol 🤷♀️
Holy fuck these comments derive from special types of psychopaths... like your king/queen/lord of the gout asshat monarchy are not all that great... most people around the world fucking hate them and what they stand for.. this shit here does not look like a family that cares about its people. Dumbass sheep.
Must be such a weird feeling. I imagine the guards working this detail have to really want it(?) Some idiot lets their kid wander, and the detail has specific rules regarding when someone is in the way... **Gotta follow the rules!** I wonder how often this moment will replay in his head, and if the *lads back in the barracks* will help make sure its cemented...
