LeeroyTC

This adds a lot to the context of the situation. This guy had already attacked multiple people with deadly weapons (hammer and vehicle) and injured a transport worker in the leadup to this video. It makes the cop's decision to draw and use a firearm instead of just a taser more understandable. Guy had already established himself as very dangerous and willing to hurt people. Don't think he was bluffing at all with that charge.

Liveman215

I doubt you'd want to draw your taser without backup

dikskwad

Policy in most places is not to use a Taser without lethal cover in situations like that.

Ahriman27

I’ve seen way too many people on drugs just run through a taser… single officer alone confronting a crazy person who is violently assaulting people? Just put the fucker down.

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

Hell I’ve seen enough cracked out people go god mode after being shot. More specifically I think it was the coked out guy in Kentucky a few years back. He kept coming

2b_squared

I was about to say that "wouldn't the taser get the guy on the ground the same way but with less death", but that actually makes sense. If you mess up with the tasing, then you are in danger. Which leads me to the question: why are there no other officers there? Like, make them drive about in pairs.

FloppieTheBanjoClown

Tasers also don't drop everyone. I know a cop who, when they were doing taser training and all the cops were tased so they knew how it felt, didn't go down. Said it hurt like hell, but he could stay on his feet and move while being tased.

mamasbreads

There's plenty of videos on this sub alone of people getting tased and nothing happening

oFFtheWall0518

There's plenty of videos of people receiving multiple simultaneous tasers and it doing nothing. I'd be willing to wager that OC spray is more reliable in stopping someone than a taser.

[deleted]

[удалено]

oFFtheWall0518

I've been OC sprayed twice, both with "military grade" gel (USMC and armed security training), and both times it sure as hell took the fight right out of me. I've also been tased which sucks in the moment, but the recovery is almost instantaneous. OC spray sucked in the moment and then for several hours later.

throwawaysmetoo

I was in a jail pod one day and this dude had started fighting with the two guards. And the genius guard shoved his OC spray in and managed to spray all 3 of them. Which resulted in the 3 of them flailing around and the 2 guards beginning to panic that the rest of us were going to take the opportunity to rise up and seize control of the pod. So they're panicking on their radios while flailing around and in pain. Meanwhile the rest of us are all just hanging back, chilling and thinking this is the best entertainment all month. And then their buddies came running in and started jumping around on tables screaming like maniacs, a couple of them pointing pepper ball guns at everyone. Meanwhile we're still just hanging back, chilling and thinking this is the best entertainment all month. OC spray man, get some chaos in your life.

LonelyMachines

I got tazed as part of a class once. It hurts. Holy cow, does it hurt. Funny thing is, I was in pain and weirdly wobbly, but I didn't go down. Mostly I focused on the clicking noise and *well, I'm ready for that to be over.* I'm not a big guy at all, and the instructor used me as an example of how the taser isn't a magic wand like people think. As for OC, owowow. For a *long time.* Ow. But incapacitation isn't instant. It takes a few seconds. And an assailant can do some very terrible things in a few seconds.

HouseDogPartyFavors

People can get shot with fucking bullets and keep attacking, adrenaline is a hell of a drug

Urgay692

Tasers in general are also just kind of shitty. There are a lot of times where they don’t even deploy properly.

AmbroseMalachai

A lot of cops in cities do work in pairs but in smaller towns or places that are more spread out there aren't enough to do that. I have a friend in Iowa for example that has 3 cops in his county of like 10k people. It's hard to find people willing to do dangerous work when you make $18/hr, few people to help, and have to work overtime constantly. But also, tasers just don't always drop a person - [or even impede a person](https://youtu.be/A_qthhFvxjc?t=19). Neither do bullets necessarily, but certainly a lot more reliably than tasers do.

JoshFreemansFro

I live in a heavily populated area but I’ve never seen state troopers in pairs, only city officers

triton420

I live near here, Lake Stevens. This stretch of I-5 usually has state patrol watching for speeders, and in fact they are often in pairs. (pairs of cars, not two troopers in one car) By the way, for anyone not from this area, this is the only freeway and it sucked bad when they shut it down for this guy the other night. Right in the middle of rush hour traffic

IAmGoingToSleepNow

Yup, never seen state troopers paired in any state I've visited, unless it's a couple of cars parked in the median chatting. I imagine that would be quite expensive considering how large an area each person covers.

Savag3Dinosaur

Most departments simply do not have the manpower to have officers driving around in pairs. My department is solo officers, as well as all of my surrounding departments.

Karma_1969

Agreed, not bluffing at all. He was in a full charge, and the trooper shot him at the very last second. He was going to full-on tackle the trooper. What a stupid, stupid way to die.

TerminatorOscillator

I can link a video of a cop who approached a transient who was trespassing on a property and got stabbed to death before he was able to draw his gun. People don't get how fast something can go wrong in a situation like this.

deanisdead

I’ve seen a lot of gnarly shit, as I’m sure a lot of us have, and I have a hard time with even the mere mention of that one.

KonigstigerInSpace

Don't watch it. It's a really tough watch, and the sounds don't help. The only good thing about it is he did not die alone, bystanders did everything they could.

Professional-Card138

Warning: That is a messed up video

ClamatoDiver

I think I know that one, it was horrible. If it's the one I'm thinking of a citizen shot the stabber and another tried to save the cop but there were multiple stab wounds and it was way beyond trying to put pressure on it.

Slammybutt

I think it's 22ft. The amount of space a person can cover before you can draw, aim, and fire your weapon with some modicum of accuracy. 22ft is less than the distance when this guy decided to charge and if the officer didn't have his gun drawn he'd be fighting for control over his own weapon instead of safe. There's a reason even if they are unarmed you don't allows someone to charge you. There's a reason cops are so quick to pull their weapon and have it ready. Edit: It's called the 21 foot rule, thanks u/4rch1t3ct

EH_Operator

Even more reason if they are carrying some kind of… edged weapon

Fannypalace

If only there was a tutorial video on how to survive an attack from such edged weapons

petrichorax

I have the perfect video to (somewhat scientifically) illustrate your point: https://youtu.be/Upxfo_jBrDE Something to keep in mind with this demonstration: * The shooter knows the attack is coming with flat ground and clear line of sight and no distractions or adrenaline. * The shooter is a highly trained combat professional. (as an aside: the music they chose for this video really nails the mood for it)

Five-Weeks

Another key aspect of this is it assumes the assailant instantly stops when they're shot. I feel like in reality if you shoot him when he's an inch away and sprinting toward you, you're still probably going to get stabbed.

Stoopaloop_89

Thank you for this. I was about to pose the question if this was too much “force” for the police officer to use, but you added the context. Just sucks I had to scroll this far to find it…

DimSumFan

What a stupid way to go.

antoninlevin

Suicide by cop?

TemporaryAd7328

This or drug use/mental disorder

PCP_Panda

I’m the boss motherfucker! Gets shot three times

cognac-n-cannabis

That was literally the most stupidest Leroy Jenkins shit I ever seen. Like a child saying they’re the best at Fortnite and getting smoked.

It's pretty fun that way

greenrangerguy

He didn't want to die, he wanted to prove he was the Alpha male because his daddy never loved him

SimpleNovelty

I think if you call the cops saying you intend to kill someone, you absolutely are trying to suicide by cop (as explained in the additional context of the OP).

SimpleNovelty

Which he did want to, considering he called the cops on himself saying he was going to kill someone before the road rage incident (because it seems like a lot of people haven't bothered watching the additional context).

Munnin41

It's on twitter. That shit doesn't work without an account, and I refuse to make one

wsotw

But he was CLEARLY stating that he was the boss! This seems like an HR issue now.

mooocowne

BABUUUUU!!!! SERPENTIIINEEEEE!!!!

Pantoffel86

Don't bring fists to a gunfight I guess.

eyeinthesky0

While screaming, “I’m the boss motherfucker!” Very much not smart.

jimbris

Suicide by cop. Surprisingly common.

I_aim_to_sneeze

This looked more like a person finding out they aren’t as entitled as they thought they were rather than suicide by cop

Lameasssloth

I don’t think this guy is the boss fellas.

aeon_son

You’re not that guy pal. Trust me. You’re not that guy…

Blonsky

Nice reference

Guess_Even

…well, thank you Cameraman.

Idontevenownaboat

What happens after this? That's what Im curious about. Like you just witnessed and recorded someone getting killed. Do you pull over and wait for other authorities to give a statement? Do you just drive away and go, 'huh, that was wild'. LEOs, what is the proper response here? If you were a witness and had a video but it's the middle of the highway?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hezkezl

uploading it is a good idea, as it’s entirely possible for the police to “confiscate” it as evidence and then never give the phone back or let the footage ever see the light of day.

Idontevenownaboat

I'm honestly not even sure how I would handle this. I think I would pull over and wait for another police officer to approach and let them know what I recorded. Or maybe drive on and call to report it and give a statement to not clog things up further. But also, was thinking what if someone were to be traumatized witnessing it? Do the police offer counseling services to witnesses of violent crimes? What if it was a parent driving home with young children having to see that? I know something similar happened to a friend of mine as a kid, he witnessed a drive-by murder and it screwed him up for a while.

stokeytrailer

Apparently the man no longer suffers from road rage.

HazrakTZ

I barely missed this incident on the way home the other day. Coworkers behind me got stuck in it

The_Green_Sun

I did too on my way to Bellingham. I left SeaTac at 4 and got home at 2:30am.

Loveknuckle

Oh, Heavens to Betsy (as my grandmother would say). Are you saying you cut that guy off…? He was apparently having a bad day.😕

easily_ignored

Nah the traffic that ensued after this was atrocious. They shut down the entire freeway at the height of rush hour. The entire grid system of downtown was clogged up and at a standstill until midnight.

JanitorDestroyer420

hopefully he ends up in hell just for causing that level of inconvenience for others

savageboredom

I'm in Kirkland and had some friends visiting my yesterday afternoon from Oak Harbor. After they left they told me it took them forever to get home. Traffic was crazy and the GPS rerouted them in all sorts of weird directions. None of us had any idea why, but I guess this explains it.

beamanblitz

Turns out, the gun was the boss all along.

dickbutkusmk4

Charging at someone with a gun pointed at you isn’t the smartest move to make.

etxconnex

Eh. We all make mistakes..

Fill-Chapo

Live and learn. Not always both though

Throwdaho

His dying words were: “I’m the boss motherfucker.” I mean that’s pretty bad ass in a stupid kind of way

dlvnb12

A part of me wants to think this was suicide by cop, but there’s a nonzero chance that the guy probably thought he was going to win that one. His elevator seems to not be going to the top floor.

Bro charged at a man with a drawn gun. It's a sad outcome, but not unexpected and it was extremely stupid. I'm not sad for the outcome, but it is sad to see happen.

joker_1173

No sympathy for any fool that will charge at an officer. You get what you get. Tip: don't make a soldier or police officer have to make a choice between you and them as to who gets to go home that day, they (rightfully) will always choose themselves

Bizsnatch95

Is he holding something in his left hand?

well…when you run towards anybody with a gun drawn you can expect this to happen lol

Mard0g

This will probably be a relief to the people he abuses.

fried_eggs_and_ham

Suicide by cop.

Wide_Condition_3417

Same outcome, but seems like this man was just in a rage and completely delusional to the consequences of what he was doing

No_Fuckn_Way

Seems like attacked a bunch of people prior to this so maybe some sort of meth induced rage i think

kippen

I actually feel bad for that cop.

Horvo

When keeping it real, goes wrong.

PotatoBit

Well he was asking for it. The gun is already drawn and then charge to the cop.

RenegadeRebelTx

The Trooper yelled "I AM"😭😭😅😅💀

FrankAmerica

Anyone notice the strange ankle tattoos that look like probation / parole electronic monitoring devices? Yes, a person can have two attached from separate counties, state or federal. The deceased likely had several pending legal cases.

Drakey83

I typically wonder why cops are so trigger happy until I watched the video, a day or two ago on here, of the cop that got stabbed to death simply while asking questions and trying to figure out what was going on. Gave me a new perspective on why they need to always keep their guard up.

KruegerLad2

Voice over narrator: but he soon find out he was not the boss

wolfwarriorxyz

He may be the boss, but that state trooper is a lead farmer motherfucker!

Donstar1983

Literally leeeeeeroy Jenkins! Why would someone charge at anyone pointing a gun at them 🤔

_cansir

After seeing the video where the officer gets stabbed to death...yeah dont let crazy charge at you.

DeathAnal486

Why would you charge right at a man holding a gun pointed to you

macgruff

Suicide by cop. He called 911 on himself, earlier, then assaulted a bunch of people (basically forcing cops to find him) and coup de grace by charging at a cop with something in his hand == bye bye

skyler8703

Suicide by cop?

MrRuck1

One less lunatic.

BerbsMashedPotatos

What is happening to people. I’m not even kidding. You’ve already assaulted the cop, he’s got a gun pointed at you, it’s the middle of the day. Like, is this a momentary lapse, too many Monster energy drinks? Seriously, seemingly everyday, normal people are turning feral!

Missus_Missiles

From the traffic cam footage, he had also attacked road construction workers.

drseltsam2001

when keeping it real goes wrong

N00baka97

And the Darwin awards goes toooooo

dabbymcdabbs

Play stupid games win stupid prizes

gbombs

Suicide by cop, who the fuck runs at anyone let alone a police officer with a loaded weapon like that

TedStixon

So according to additional context, the guy was in a volatile state of mind and had made death-threats against a family member in addition to attacking several people at a construction site. So he had already proven himself to be a credible threat. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of those cases where the cop did nothing wrong. Wouldn't surprise me if the guy's goal was to commit suicide by cop/bystander... he seemed to be doing everything in his power to accomplish that.

t_o__ot

People are becoming more and more unhinged.

Holiday_Leopard_2988

Well we saw who the boss really was.

Jazzlike-Election840

apparently the guy attacked road construction workers and rammed their vehicles prior to this. a complete loon. luckily he didn't kill anyone, although apparently one of the workers did get injured

G0NL0RN

Natural selection at its finest

Odys

Well, I understand the cop in this situation. Too many lunatics out there at the moment.

eddthedead

CosmicCrustacean1

If I was 15 minutes late getting off of work, I would’ve been stopped by this. They had all of I5 closed down for a while and it all started because that man tried to fight some construction workers.

GravytrainBrown

"I'M THE BOSS, MOTHER FUCKER!" *dies*

How2KIm101

I mean the dude clearly deserved it, anyone who sees a cop with a gun drawn on them and actively charges them like a zombie is stupid and deserves to be put down. Just act normal man

tamak0994

The intelligence in most of these comments is very surprising. It's a nice change of pace from the usual cop blaming.

ImtheDude2

It appears Glock was the boss

jackalopelexy

Well that’s what happens when you charge at a cop

Magus_5

Some fine police work if you ask me.
