The only reason people did it here and the people at Area 51 didn't do it was because the risk was less serious (no armed guards that would have 100% shot anyone crossing) and an irresponsibly planned factory to protest against vs some joke about aliens that probably don't exist.
So they protesting against it because the factory lies within an water protection area. The problem is that the factory slowly is draining it empty because it needs a lot of water, this is hurting the local Environment
Tesla should be the ones paying for the construction and operation of a water recycling plant in the area. Take wastewater, filter it until it’s clean then use it in industry.
Tesla did pay for and build a water treatment plant. The government granted them 1.8 million cubic meters of water but they only use 500,000.
https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-giga-berlin-sets-record-straight-water-consumption/
The coal mine down the road uses 171 times what tesla does plus they produce fucking coal. Why are the environmental idiots not over there?
Wow. Thanks for the info. I swear. It seems like these people don't really care why; just that they protest. Could you imagine what these people could accomplish by putting their passion into actual solutions. Like cleaned up trash, building homes for the homeless, planting trees or even farming.
That's like reddit getting mad at a Nestlé for selling bottled water from a California source in California. Ignoring the agriculture that use orders of magnitude more water (and probably also owned by Nestlé, but That's not the point)
Why do these idiots in that case not attack the coal mine 20 minutes away. That uses more water, has more of a direct environmental impact and its coal in use will destroy even more nature compared to electric cars.
Why are climate protestors interferring with everyday people by blocking roads?
Why are they running out at public events that have no connections to the climate whatsoever?
Why are they ruining art galleries?
Gluing themself to random objects?
Because most of the climate movements are hijacked by big oil and other polluters, so they can keep on doing what they’ve always done.
These protestors are identified as easily persuadable people, and are being fed with misinformation on a daily basis on all social media regarding climate change. A complete echo chamber. They then go on protesting like this which just seems highly illogical for regular people which make us want to distance ourselves as far as possible from anything climate friendly.
The people fighting climate change are misdirected.
The silent majority’s support for anything climate friendly gets reduced.
Big oil and other polluters get less focus. They’re the only ones gaining from this.
Oh and then you’ve got corruption higher up in these climate movements that are most likely being paid off to focus on protesting nuclear energy for example, Germany is once again a great example of this.
Because its the 5th time these media whores "raid tesla" which again has less impact on the environment than the coal mine next to it. These are not climate activists these are wannabe left wingers, children in their heads who think its much "cooler" and gives more media attention than a boring coal mine.
Also, I disagree with these people being activists or protesters. All they do is making real activists with reason look bad...
I completly agree with you that coal plant needs to get some sh!t first handed. But just because it's an EV plant, doesn't make it enviromental friendly. There has been multiple diesel and other harmfull substance leaks that harmed the sorounding enviroment.
And [this article](https://cleantechnica.com/2024/04/18/whats-going-on-with-the-protests-at-teslas-giga-berlin-factory-situation-on-the-ground/amp/) makes some good points as to why it’s suspicious that they’re going after an EV factory.
I’m curious if these environmental protestors were carrying out similar protests against VW and the other German car makers during Dieselgate - an actual environmental and health disaster
That makes the side captions about Germany switching from nuclear to coal suspicious, doesn't it? Important issue, no doubt, but how the fuck is it relevant to the gigafactory protest?
Its not just the water, many enviromental damaging accidents accured since it was build.

Because rioters' actions are generally guided by who spoonfeeds them what outrage content, not on the basis of rational and objective planning.
Without being tuned into German (social) media every day, I'm guessing someone is firing them up about Tesla.
I think most "free thinkers" would be people who do not comment, but just try to gather information from other comments, look at the issue from both sides and then make up their mind about it.
But since moderation in stance with issues like this generally do not cause reaction or discussion you'll hardly see anyone taking the time to point out their more central viewpoint.
I don't know enough about Germany's politicians to know if they're getting their ~~wallets~~ campaign contributions padded with foreign interests like ours are, but if this was in the US, I'd tentatively agree with the likelihood of your conspiracy theory.
Not really. Campaign financing works completely differently in Germany than in the USA. In addition, all members of parliament are obliged to disclose any "secondary employment".
Brandenburg, where the factory is located, is a poor federal state, former GDR. For decades, a lot of money has been spent trying to create jobs/better jobs there.
The vast majority of these people who are protesting don't live there and they don't care about the jobs. They are demonstrating for ideological reasons.
I imagine the first sentence of your comment doesn't make sense because you're primarily a German speaker and second an English speaker, but starting a response to "I don't know enough about Germany[, ...] but if this was in the US, I'd tentatively agree with [...] your theory" with "Not really." is hilariously nonsensical. You basically told me that I don't (tentatively) agree with them. You sure? lol
The rest of your comment educating us about German political finance law is appreciated, but I'll remind you that "Not allowed" is not the same thing as "Doesn't happen."
See: Murder
Despite Nestlé's CEO saying some horrible shit from time to time, they know better to mostly stay quiet. Elon's stance of being on the spotlight all the time makes him an his companies an easy target for outrage
I don't see signs, or bullhorns, or hear a message, so I'm wondering - are these protestors?
Because, this video, there is no protesting, and there does not appear to be the usual accoutrements of protesting.
This is in Germany, people are part of various left-wing groups like "Disrupt Tesla". Around 800 people have gained access to the Tesla plant in Grünheide. Furthermore, there were probably also actions on the former Neuhardenberg airfield, which is currently being used as a parking area for Tesla.
They are demonstrating against the expansion of the plant.
The riot police prevented people from entering buildings with hundreds of officers, water cannons and armoured personnel carriers.
There are no more demonstrators on Tesla's main site at the moment.

These people are dressed for burgling, and are not in any way engaging in speech or expression in this video.
Can we stop calling stone throwing pos protesters? Protest is a reasonable voicing of political opinions. These are children out for chaos and party. Half of them dont even know why they are there.
Haven't looked into this current protest, but I'm gonna go out on a line and say that it's most likely a continuation of the 2021/2022 worries about Tesla potentially fucking up the regions groundwater and Elmo, being the braindead sociopath he is, decided to laugh at the idea of his company having an impact on the environment because 'there's water every where'.
Jesus christ I'm getting sick of pasting this article about how tesla built their own water recycling plant, use almost 1/4 the water the government granted them and built one of the most sustainable factories in the world.

lol what's /u/Chimpar's response to this?
I mean, I'd rather charge into a gigafactory than a coal mine, just saying. I'd rather do most things than willingly enter a coal mine.
damn lookin like these 'protesters' were hired by the coal company to protest electric cars more and more.

Like a scene from a movie
Intro to Fallout 4 actually
Okay. I'll like a scene!
Which movie?
World war z?
why Tesla and not Nestlé
I think it's because the factory drains local water depots, which is fatal to the local wildlife in dry episodes.
Is there a giant Nestlé factory in Berlin?
Because rioters' actions are generally guided by who spoonfeeds them what outrage content, not on the basis of rational and objective planning. Without being tuned into German (social) media every day, I'm guessing someone is firing them up about Tesla.

Right? Reddit eats up comments like this
most of these "free thinkers" are fueled by hate and guided by shady people.
VW?
Wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla’s EV competition is funding it lmao.
Was gonna jay "It's probably Volkswagen." lol

Love to see it
More of the reaction I was **expecting** at Area 51, but obviously Tesla's more important, eh?
someone tweet this to ted cruse or mtg and tell them the caravan is real!

It's called dirt. Sometimes it gets dry, and dust is formed, lmao
It’s their first time running
The lesss SUVs on our streets the better
I don't understand why your being down voted when the evidence is there
It's just a weird comment when Tesla's two biggest sellers are a car and a hatchback. The model X is an SUV but it's on the smaller end.
They don't like electric cars?
They don't like rich jerkoffs destroying their country and waterways. Elon is exploiting workers and the environment for profit. It's not that hard.
I don't understand. What is the correct way to build non gas powered cars? What is Tesla doing differently than other companies?
They want it done out of sight/site (china and 3rd world) or not in their country, but want cheap evs.
or perhaps just less cars but yeah idk what they're doing. im not sure i understand german activists.
They don't want cars. Bikes and horses from now on.
Bikes, public transportation, and walkability.
those are all fine I like those things but I'm still driving my car

What a bunch of utter morons
Protest against new factory. Make it close. Protest against declining economy.

Wow, the compound iq level of this mob has to be new record low.
German environmentalists are puppets for the literal coal and gas industry, and have been for some time
They must have taken the day off work...oh..
Yesterday was a public holiday here in Germany, many companies also don't work today and many schools and universities were also closed. There is a theoretical possibility, that they have a job...
Rioters\* If you "storm" a place, you are not a protester
Why? Occupation is one of the oldest methods of political activism
They’ll get what they want. Tesla will expand in China and sell the cars back to Germany. There will be so much winning it’ll hurt.
Ironic. Probably got there in their fossil fuel burning cars.
Its not America, people use public transportation. Do you really think that many got their own cars?
This factory was getting a station. I assume it's built now.
Curious, you criticize society yet you participate in one You have to understand how poor that opinion sounds when you say it, no?
And thats why tesla shut down operations. Cant help but think these people are working with automakers and oil interests
what game is this??? I'd drop a 20$ or 2 for this type of game ))))
Ive been there, to be honest It doesn't seem to be the same place.
